never disappoints///excellent food an dservice.. real neighborhood gem...
The extensive menu comprises many French classics and the food is very good and reasonably priced. That never changes. Service can be a bit slow and forgetful at times. It can also get very noisy at peak hours. But overall a rewarding experience.
Definitely an older clientele. The food we tried ranged from gooey comfort food (heavy, rich sauces) to mediocre. Food tasted like it had sat under a heat lamp for a long time before I saw it. Service was very slow at times. The souffles, which I understood to be a house specialty, were terrible (and we got one of each flavor). Almost flavorless and definitely not worth dessert calories.
Excellent service, incredible French food with several unique wine selections. The ambiance is warm and inviting. We look forward to dining here again!
Excellent food, service and vibe
Lovely, intimate restaurant. Great service. Food was spectacular- classic country French. Onion soup and steak au poivre were fabulous and the shrimp and scallops special was luscious and delicious. Also, Nancy Pelosi walked by us to a table nearby!! Bon appetit!
Food was excellent, but service was slow paced, even at lunch with the restaurant not full.
The staff was awesome and extremely attentive to our needs! Food was average, I ordered the pheasant special and it was boring, my wife ordered steak au poive also just average but cooked perfect.
I love the food at La Chaumiere and this time you did not disappoint. The restaurant can be a bit crowded at times, but unless you are planning a building addition, I realize there is little to do about that.
Thanks for a great dinner.
Wonderful French restaurant in the heart of Georgetown. Small, cozy setting with a décor that makes you feel like you could be in a small restaurant in Paris. Waiters are French and have an exceptional understanding of the menu, food preparation, and their extensive wine list. A little crowded and a little noisy, but the food and service is superb! Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and experience.
Excellent meal and surprisingly reasonable price for bottle of French wine
Lovely French restaurant in Georgetown, classic dishes made in the classic way. Staff was excellent.
Quiet French Country. Elegantly comfortable. Friendly observant courteous staff. Knock your socks off food. No frills Authentic from start to finish.
Great food and a nice atmosphere. We went on a Saturday night and it was crowded and a bit loud but still excellent. Would certainly go again
Another merry celebration, this time three couples marking a birthday, and everyone enjoying great food and charming atmosphere.
Fantastic french food with generous portions and great ambiance
While the food is fine, the dining area is a bit dreary and dark. I was surprised they charged $6 for fizzy tap water. More than a bottle of San Pellegrino or Perrier in a similar establishment.
This was a birthday lunch. The birthday girl requested that we go to La Chaumiere because she like the atmosphere and wanted to sit by the fire. We were given a table by the fire. We asked them to turn the fire on and they said we haven’t turn the gas on yet so there will be no fire. We were absolutely freezing the entire time and we kept our coats, shawls and scarves on throughout lunch —it was not enjoyable. I believe that they could have turned on the fire for us. It was November 1 and it was time to turn on the gas. The birthday girl and the other guests thought it was because they were trying to save money. I will not go back. It’s not what it used to be.
Un restaurant charmant avec une cuisine traditionnelle exceptionnelle; un service merveilleux et attentionné; et une excellente liste de vins.
Still my favorite D.C. French restaurant—they don’t mess with success, just reliably deliver a traditional French dining experience that is excellent in all respects.
When the restaurant is full, and it is always full, the waiters, that are excellent can not cope.
Unimpressive. Mediocre service. Presentation of food lacked any imagination. I would not return.
Outstanding traditional French fair. Good service - setting is crowded but romantic and unique. Would definitely go again!
Delicious food, expertly served. A real treat, especially the quenelles de bro get in lobster sauce and the dessert souffles
I used to visit the restaurant several times. This time I was extremely disappointed. Waiters are arrogant and obviously lying about availability of choices from the Menü they believe they should reserve for more important guests.
Terrific classic French with a twist to Chaumiere's house recipes which are quite good. The oysters chaumiere were fantastic. Steak au poivre as well as cheese soufflé were superb.
Busy and lively atmosphere with very good and nonintrusive service
I have become very fussy about noise level in restaurants - met up with a friend (in DC for a conference) whom I had not seen in a year, so we had lots to talk about - the noise level was wonderfully acceptable for a Friday night! The service and our meals were perfect. The restaurant is a Georgetown gem -- lucky me, it's in my city -- will definitely go back with family & friends.
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here. It was amazing. From the moment they greeted us at the door, showing us to our table and bringing out the courses in a timely but unrushed manner. We felt like we were invited into someone French country home. The food, wine and overall experience were top notch. Would definitely celebrate another year of marriage here!
The food was outstanding! I was there with 4 other people and everyone really enjoyed their wine selections as well as there meals. We all said, "Why don't we come here more often?" upon getting ready to leave. It really is a charming restaurant. I would have given it 5 stars but the room was a little on the warm side, the noise level was louder than I would have liked. It was hard to hear people across the table and the waiter was good but very busy with other tables.
Unbelievably delicious dining experience!!
Family from out of town, and I were delighted with La Chaumiere. French food in an elegant surrounding. All the standards made for a delightful evening!
This is a neighborhood gem. We enjoyed the personalized attention provided during a recent small birthday celebration. Great service, food, and ambiance. We are already planning another dinner soon!
It took us 15 mn to be seated despite a reservation
Every aspect is perfect. Every time! I’ve been coming here for almost 30 years and it’s just wonderful.
Consistently excellent food and service. I come to Washington 5 times a year and La Chaumier has become one of a small handful of restaurants I have to visit. Try the soufflé and the cassoulet.
This restaurant is certainly not high end fine dining if one is used to and expecting that. The suited "manager" does not even acknowledge guests. He never once stopped by, but treats people he knows well. Service not great. My wine glass was never filled. Food OK at best. I would give it a pass.
Wonderful, as always.
Visting from out of town. We found the restaurant and saw good reviews so we reserved a table. We loved the ambiance and everything else. Great place.
Third time dining at La Chaumiere. Food is always delicious, service is first- rate and chocolate soufflé is to die for!
