La Chasse hits all the high notes - excellent and welcoming service, the BEST cocktail selection in Louisville including a well crafted variety of mocktails, and delicious menu selections. It’s one of our favorite places to go and we went on a whim after running errands earlier in our evening. The restaurant was packed or ‘lively’ as the genial waiter who was covering the front door told us. We lucked into a seat and a stand at the bar and as tables got up we extended to two bar seats enjoying our cocktails and dinner at the bar. We started with the Barrel Aged Vieux Carre a smooth and sippable bourbon cocktail which exists on many a cocktail menu but has been perfected by Isaac the owner and cocktail maestro. Husband ordered the fried oysters appetizer - plump and beautifully battered accompanied by a zesty relish vs the boring standard cocktail sauce. For entrees he had the short ribs, hearty, tender and bursting with flavor and I had the scallops, a lighter option also delicious and made more substantial on a flavorful lentil bed. Our second cocktail was the Constantinople, rum based and a riff on the richness of Turkish coffee but without the cloying sweetness - a complex and well balanced construction.
Although the restaurant was extremely busy when we arrived we felt welcomed and attended to. Having patience and understanding with the crowd always helps and we decided to be happy that so many people were sharing our opinion that La Chasse is a great place to eat out!
For those of you who are out of town, this place is considered to be a fine dining restaurant. Their prices definitely reflect that. However, we had a horrible time last night. We arrived on time for our reservation and ordered our food and drinks. Everything went well until we got to our main course. My fiancé and I both ordered the pork chops. We patiently waited, and waited, and, waited...Finally I had reached our to our server and inquired about our orders. She responded that they are “coming right up”...After waiting for another 20 min I’ve inquired again showing my frustration. Keep in mind that we got there at 6:30 and it was almost 8:30pm and still no food. At that point she went to the owner (Isaac Fox) and I guess she told him about us being upset. Then she came back and said that everything will be comp. but it might take another 10-15 min for our food to arrive! We waited for another 15 min and food never came out. Now, the kicker is that folks who arrived well after us got their food, paid their checks and left. I guess they have not ordered pork chops?? In any event, we got up and started heading out. As we were walking out, we spotted Isaac at the back of the restaurant. At that point, my fiancé loudly made a comment about the bad experience and service. He remained silent, like no one was walking by or said anything. He just kept adjusting the candle on the dinner table...Here is the thing. Even when the service is bad, I don’t need nor ask for free meals. In fact, I was ready to make a special evening for my fiancé and drop $300 for a dinner. You would imagine that if the owner/manager is aware of an issue would approach the customer and inquire about an issue. I guess Mr. Fox can afford to treat his customers this way. Free dinner (which by the way the main course never arrived) will never replace ruined night and the place that we once loved. We won’t be back again. There are plenty of fine dining places in Louisville who will gladly take our $$.
After an initial bottle of champagne for 4, our endless wait for apps was approx. 1 hour. Apps/salads arrived with an apology & a promise to do better. Then our wait for entrees was another hour long. Comped 2 desserts by way of apology. Dining took 3 hours overall, 3 long hours. Prior visits had been much better.
We had a great dining experience at La Chasse. Our server, Patrick, was excellent. As first timers, he guided us through the beverage and menu options, and kept the meal flowing appropriately. We had mostly specials (hummus, mussels, red snapper), plus regulars Caesar salad, oyster app, and salmon. The salmon eater didn't enjoy the sides or his oyster app (it had too many sauces for his taste), but he did like the salmon. We will definitely return, and have Patrick's recommendations for our next meal
Can get really loud and some of the tables are dark. If you are seated near the door in winter it can get really chilly at the tables. Basically a good spot with an authentically loud, dark and tight French feel.
This may be the best restaurant in louisville these days. Great cocktail list. We had a table next to kitchen so it was noisy until it got crowded. Then it was noisy everywhere. Loved the food
Came to Louisville from NC for our 35th wedding anniversary and I wanted a special and local restaurant to dine. This was it! Excellent choices, I had the KY fried rabbit and my wife the duck, both perfect. Great wine list and also great service. This was our best meal and experience in KY, except for a few bourbon distilleries. Highly recommend
Smoked pork chop and salmon were delicious. Recommend the maple old fashioned too!
My favorite restaurant in Louisville. From the bar program to the food, on e word excellent. Chef Kristina’s take on food is so original and creative. The arugula salad tonight was incredible, and duck confit with waffles was crazy. I can hardly wait to go back.
ordered scallops, which were great. ordered burgoo as appetizer. it was fantastic. be sure and order an appetizer. the entrees won't fill you up.
arrived at 630pm. by 715 my wife and i had to shout to be heard. just a sheer wall of noise from then on. holy moses! bring your cell. better off texting back and forth. i'm serious.
excellent service. comfortable place...not too hot or cold, of course weather was perfect that night.
yeh, i'd go back, but would book earliest possible table if you want any hope of a conversation.
Met friends for my birthday. Issac Fox was awesome and our service was top notch as usual! Love the wine selection and the filet was delicious!
Love this place!
small portions, very pricey, food not as described both on the menu and from the server.
Great service GREAT food!
Every time I've been to La Chasse I've been impressed. The atmosphere and food quality is like being at a neighborhood French Bistro. Excellent pan seared fois gras is rare to get in an American Midwest city. It's always a part of my ordering and NEVER fails to make me feel I'm enjoying it in France with a local wine (this time a great cab from Languedoc! )With Montpellier a Louisville sister city, I felt the connectivity with my Friday PM meal!
The food was simply excellent. We began with the octopus and foie gras - both amazing. I had the swordfish special on a bed of pesto orzo which was outstanding, and my friend had the rabbit, which he was very happy with. We also ordered a side order of the pimento cheese grits, which were very rich but simply delicious. I could have eaten a whole bowl and called it a night, but there were so many other good things to sample. Our server was a delight, attentive but not intrusive. An altogether satisfying experience, and while not inexpensive, I felt like we got a lot of value for the price.
We were tourists and found this place thru reviews. The good reviews were right. We had the octopus as an appetizer, perfectly cooked. Friend had scallops and thought they were equal with the "best ones since Stratosphere". I had the chicken, wonderfully seasoned. Drinks were spot on. Dessert was the chef's special torte. Very good.
Our party of four all enjoyed our meals, from fish to rabbit to duck. The cocktail list is also an asset as it is very original.
Wonderful dinner! The food is definitely the star here! What a gem for the city. Would recommend to anyone wanting a great meal with a great list of wine or cocktails to pair with. Simply exceptional!
Excellent food, service and ambiance!
I had high hopes - but the experience wasn't up to it.
The chicken cassoulet was neither sophisticated nor comforting - and at least one of these attributes was required. It tastes mostly of spicy mayonnaise, and I expected the chicken to be fall-of-bone tender, which it wasn't.
The deconstructed key lime pie was low on acidity and heavy on sweet (although that might be my personal preference). The puff pastry was not flaky or fresh.
Also, despite the restaurant being empty I was stuck at the worst table - with a view of a wall.
On the whole I applaud the ambition - but hope the experience will improve. (The only reason I took the time to write this.)
We found the expectation of French/Spanish cuisine intriguing and were excited to partake while celebrating a special occasion. The food did not disappoint, until dessert. My husband thoroughly enjoyed Escargot Rockefeller and I ate every bit of my Charred Octopus. We shared the delicious salad special of the evening with the lardons, grapes and the creamiest cheese and we were happy with our choice. We opted to share the entrée special of Veal Chop with potatoes, mushrooms and asparagus. Outstanding! After such a sumptuous meal, the Chocolate-Hazelnut Ice Cream Sandwich was such a disappointment. The triple chocolate brownie was dry, hard and tasteless and nothing that accompanied it redeemed it. We anticipated so much better. The wait staff was absolutely excellent! We can not praise the service we received high enough. The choices of Artisan Cocktails was superior. Can't wait to try more! BUT if you are looking for an intimate dining experience, this is not the place. The noise level was terrible. We had to ask our waiter to repeat some offerings. We watched another waiter crouch down to table height to recite the menu to a nearby "30 something" couple who couldn't hear what was being said. Several couples surrounding us were holding hands across the table, but had to shout at each other! Our conversation was limited because we could not hear each other and were frustrated at having to raise our voices. We will definitely go back to try more of the superb fare, but will try an early reservation on a week day and see if we are able to talk to each other as we savor the food.
Charred occtupus appetizer was cooked to perfection and was delicious. The beef short rib entree was the best i've ever had. Top notch Bourbon selection. Excellent service. The place was GREAT!
La Chasse is a complete and total fine dining experience in such a comfortable setting,. With owner, Issac overseeing the bar and the front of the house and Executive Chef Tina Dyer at the helm in the kitchen you will be transported into an evening that is truly as good as it gets. Chef Dyer’s take on French cuisine is absolutely second to none and have Mr. Fox pair that food with his choices of wine from his world class list and you will think you are dining in Paris. All of this at such reasonable prices makes this Bardstown Road hidden gem a Five Star dining destination in every category.
Food was really tasty and different combination of flavors some of the accompaniments I did not care for but overall meal was good.
Service from Patric was outstanding and he made my birthday night out a great dining experience!
Our server was very accommodating and personable. Food was divine. Ambience inviting. Only wish I could eat more!
This was definitely a worthwhile experience. I will go again asap.
Beyond expectations. Kentucky fried rabbit is a must. Highly recommend for food or drinks.
The food and service are very good, but the noise level is way too much. There was a party there that night and they must have been friends with the chef and staff because they were obnoxious and there was a lady that kept going up to the window where the chefs are talking. So, the service was good, but slow. The staff let that table get a little out of hand with the noise. We probably won't be back.
Great place for some French food (with other choices). Service was excellent.
Excellent service and very good food marred only by a lack of air conditioning (the underperforming unit informs you of it’s struggle by dripping on you on the way in & out). Short rib entree, mussels of the day, & the sweetbreads were all great while the fried green tomatoes were just a carrier for the overwhelming balsamic drizzled on them.
Will definitely go back when cooler weather permits!
Creative cocktails you won’t find anywhere else on the planet. Creative kitchen from apps to entrees to deserts. Hands down, continues to be our favorite restaurant in Louisville.
Great neighborhood place with consistently good food and an extensive selection of cocktails.
I have dined at La Chasse many times and have never been disappointed. I brought a couple of friends this time and they were very pleased with their meal. Two of us elected to go with the grouper special and it was simply amazing. Light and well balanced made this a great dish. Our table also ordered the pork chop and it was just as delightful. And....we were lucky enough to be able to try a new ice cream on this night - popcorn ice cream with salted caramel. I'm not sure how they developed this flavor but it was unbelievable. I hope they continue this on the menu!
Mike was an outstanding server for us. His descriptions of the cuisine and wine recommendations were spot on.
Food and service were excellent. We had not been in over a year, and it is far better now than it was a year ago.
Consistently excellent food, service & ambiance. My favorite Louisville restaurant!!!
La Chasse is always a wonderful experience. The food is always made to perfection, the cocktails delicious, the atmosphere quiet and enjoyable and the staff is the best!
If roasted cream corn is part of a dish- order it!!
Food was outstanding, wine list expansive, and service was impeccable. The only problem was everything on the menu sounded delicious, making it very difficult to decide.
Service was fantastic. The waiters were attentive and very entertaining. The food from start to finish was excellent. We didn't have a bad meal at the table. The drinks were also very good. We'll definitely come back!
