La Cave Ratings and Reviews
We have been going to La Cave for years. A hidden gem. Great for an intimate dinner or with a group of friends. Very cool ambiance in this underground location. Great service. Awesome cocktails and great food....grilled steaks and fish are the best! If you have not tried La Cave, you need to go!
My wife and I and a friend dined (tried to dine) at La Cave last Saturday. The hostess / manager was very courteous and gave us a nice corner booth. I ordered a 10 oz Filet medium, and specifically asked if medium is warm pink center and the server confirmed that's how they serve it. My wife ordered halibut and our friend a shrimp cocktail. We got our cocktails, soup, salad and bread in a timely manner and were enjoying the evening. Our entrees took forever to arrive and when they finally came the waitress apologized and said she was tending to a large party of 10. The halibut and shrimp cocktail were fine, but my steak was well-done and the twice backed potato was totally dried out. I politely asked the waitress to get me another steak that was prepared to the correct medium temperature and she said no problem. I fully understand these kind of things can happen on a busy evening and didn't mind waiting a few minutes. Twenty five minutes later my replacement steak was still not delivered and my wife and friend had already completed their meals.
I told the manager to stop my order, since it doesn't take 25 minutes to cook a 10 oz filet to medium temperature. They did comp our cocktail, but needless to say, won't be back to La Cave for overpriced burnt steak.
Another great night at La Cave! We were lucky to stumble in on a Monday, when they have live music - there was a gentlemen singing Sinatra/Martin/Bennett classics who was quite good! (better than similar shows we have paid to see in Vegas!). Steaks and cocktails were excellent as usual.
It is a cave indeed. Was not crazy about the very dim lights and the darkness. If you are claustrophobic this is NOT a You venue.
But the service was great, friendly people!
The food was excellent. The menue is basic steak and fish and veggies. . Not a complicated menue.
Last night we ate at the restaurant la cave.
This was the worst experience I've ever had at this restaurant where I have been many times over the last 15 years
The dining room was full on a Saturday night and a table of six made so much noise that I was unable to hear my table mates conversation even though we were seated at least 25 feet away from the table of six.
The disgust on the faces of the other 12 or more diners in the same room was clearly visible.
I asked the waitress to ask that table to be quieter and nothing was done
I asked the table myself to quiet down which they did for a short period of time.
Management was clearly completely unconcerned that the party of six was disturbing everyone else in the room.
Several of the diner sitting nearby told me that they would never return and I shall never return due our dinner being ruined.
Overall I have to give this a disappointing 1 star! Why? UNPROFESSIONAL COURTESY! - I booked it 2 weeks in advance and confirmed I will be joined by 6 friends for dinner with the ELVIS show. I checked online on their website calendar the day of my reservation --yup - Elvis is scheduled to be there. I show up early and am told "oh Elvis played here yesterday so he's not here tonight." Stated the hostess. I explained my friends were coming from LA and SanDiego for our monthly get together and expressed how upset I was. She stated "I'LL let the owner know when she get in." We ate there anyway and left at 9pm. No owner or manager came by to apologize. Clearly the hostess knew, the bartender knew there was not going to be an Elvis show! I would have canceled the reservation if they had bothered to call the day before and let me know!!!!!! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT EVER AND WILL BE YELPING THE SAME COMMENTS!!!!!Naomi
First of all , what restaurant does not have a menu with prices? Had no idea what anything costs!!
Secondly, my free chocolate birthday cake was dry as the the Mohave Dessert! No kidding!
The steak was just ok, rather go to Ruth Chris for the same price.
The ambience was set for an 80 year old, if that what you want , I don't!
The salad was good. The shrimp scampi gets 3 out of -10 stars. The potatoes were pathetic . Dry, looked pre maid. Not a good dining experience at all. I won't go back. This place needs to close!
This was a sad birthday visit. I have been going to this restaurant for over 40 years and was always pretty happy with the entire experience. This was most likely the last time I will eat here. The food was mediocre at best. The lobster tasted old and it was over cooked. the baked potato was not worth remembering. I mean, come on, rub a little olive oil on it, season it, and then wrap it in foil. I guarantee at least in wont taste like a dirt slug. My girl has a salad and the twice baked potato. The salad was Denny's quality at best, drowning in dressing. The potato tasted like it was made a week in advance and reheated, horrible. For the price the food should have been 5 stars. It was a 2. Never again.
First time at La Cave and had high expectations based on reviews I read. I loved the atmosphere and decor, the service was very good (water glasses refilled regularly) and the owner or manager stopped at our table to see how we were doing. My wife had the crab legs and they were excellent, but I have to say the New York steak was pretty mediocre. I ordered it medium rare, and it was prepared that way, but it was a little thin, and a little chewy. The drinks were excellent, and they served a complimentary dessert to celebrate Mothers Day even though it was Saturday night. So, overall it was good, but the New York steak was less than great.
Great Ambiance - Fantastic Beef and Seafood and Bar!!!!
The Service was over the top- Our very personable Hostess Janet " that's spelled
"J A N E T " haha was amazing- attentive and made our dinner and bar experience special and memorable. Rachelle our server was "on the spot" and made my girlfriends Mothers day dinner a date she will never forget - with a special desert - Long Stem Rose and Chocolate spoon. LA Cave should be commended for their outstanding Food, Service, and Employees!! Well Done!!!
A classic! The same menu rolled up to you with the same about 7 items since the restaurant opened years ago. I think it's only on it's second owner who kept everything the same except they added asparagus. Red leather booths, dim lighting, downstairs in a "cave" like setting.
If you live in the area, you have to go at least once. You will either become a caver or not, but you have to try. The shrimp cocktail is the best I have ever had. Oh, it's a steak house. Get the filet with the medallions sauce and the twice baked potato.
No screaming kids.
