First time there. Outstanding food although limited menu.
Every thing was very good except sitting close to the bar, the noise prevented any conversations
Best restaurant in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa and has been since 1962. Fabulous meat and martinis. Always great ambiance and service. Tradition of excellence that can't be beat.
La cave never disappoints. It is consistently excellent.
The ambience and service was great. Our filet was great, but the ribeye was sinewy. We get better ribeyes, free from excess tendons, from other steak places.
Even though I have lived in the Newport area all my life, I had never been to La Cave. The interior was very much like an old fashion chop house, which I loved. The room was cozy and comfy. We didn't get a menu which is how the restaurant works. Instead, the wait person was very nice and explained the choices on a trolley cart. While the prices are on the higher side, the food and drinks were very good. We would go again.
Though hard to image, we've been coming to this restaurant since the 60's. What we love is that it is the same delicious food, it's a romantic sort of steak/fish place with red booths, a friendly & good bar, great wait staff and when we make reservations we anxiously anticipate their famous cheese break, twice baked (or regular baked) potatoes and their quality steaks and seafood grilled to perfection. We love that it's still here and that others love it as much as we do. Eat late and stay for the live music Friday and Saturday. We enjoyed Saturday night's Blues band - great musicians!
The food is a constant 4-stars; my personal favorite being the smaller 8oz Filet. Very flavorful and good quality.
It was perfect
We really enjoyed our dining experience! The service and the food was outstanding and I think the atmosphere is romantic!
The only disappointment was that they gave me the wrong steak and even though I asked 2 different people they didn’t fix the error. I ordered a 10 ounce filet (cooked medium) while my friend ordered a 6 ounce (medium rare) and she got my steak. I shouldn’t have had to make a big deal of it. Sadly, I didn’t make a big deal of it so I didn’t get the steak that I ordered. I felt cheated. It should have been corrected when I brought it to the servers attention.
Old school vibe with great service, food and drinks. Rare and grand experience!
This place is so old-school, we just love it. I adore their king crab legs! My husband always wants to do the surf-and-turf, but I'd be happy with a big old plate of legs. If you haven't been, you'll love their old-fashioned "menu," which is just a big rolling cart with all of the different cuts of meat and fish under glass - they show it to you via flashlight! Been coming here since the 80s and the place has not changed a bit. Skip the "Elvis" impersonator show - we were not impressed by the sound of things. But if you want a good steakhouse at a reasonable price, you can't go wrong with La Cave!
Seated promptly, table clean, greeted promptly, great service and food.
When we have a special occasion to celebrate, we always choose La Cave. The food, cocktails, atmosphere and the amazing service is always outstanding!
Old school steak and seafood, loaded bar. Expect Dean Martin to roll in any minute. Staff is excellent, food is good.
Absolutely loved our dinner. Our waitress was outstanding she surprised my husband with fabulous chocolate cake for his birthday. We will be going back very soon.
Everything was great. Great food and service. A little noisy.
As always, we had an amazing time at La Cave. The food is incredible, cooked to perfection. The service as always was fabulous. We had a great server and the whole experience was amazing.
Birthday. It was great!
Great entertainment, fine ambience. Overpriced, and mediocre tasting food. Elvis was fun, would only come back for maybe drinks and watch the show.
I love this place. The vibe, the feel, and the ambiance, oozes of coolness. You can feel the history and it has the nostalgic aura of a hip speakeasy from years ago. The food & Service were outstanding as always. If you haven’t been, then you need to go and emerge yourself in a legendary restaurant.
The A/C was not working to the point that it was so uncomfortably hot, I couldn't enjoy my dinner.
Personal and staff for very professional, from beginning to end friendly people. Will definitely go back.
It was wonderful as usual! I’d recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Always a great night at La Cave. The food and drink were amazing. The atmosphere is fab.
great dinner...Cindy & Debbie did a great job !
we will return for sure...
thanks for a special evening
The Filet Mignon was over cooked and dry,it was ordered rare. The Lobster was over cooked and dry. The twice baked potato was cold and dry. My wife had the same comments regarding her order. The waitress appeared to be in a hurry to get our meal ordered and served, while we were trying to enjoy our cocktails. We were very disappointed. It’s a shame.
Nephews 40th Birthday
Special occasion special place such great history and love the ambience
one of our favorite places. good food and unique atmosphere. staff is very friendly
This is a wonderful, traditional restaurant with great food and great service.
Fun and funky! Was like going back in time! We will come again w friends!
My wife and I regularly visit La Cave for special evenings out and are never disappointed. Service, food quality and everything about La Cave is consistently excellent.
Had not been into Lave Cave in about 4 years. Made reservations and upon arriving got into the elevator with two individuals who had been standing out front taking pictures and were clearly obliterated
We were the only two there for dinner and were seated at a small booth. The next couple to arrive, again in an empty restaurant, were seated right next to us.
We ordered dinner and got some day old heated wonder bread with garlic powered on it. Had one bite.
The salad was drenched in dressing.
The fish terrible.
No longer a locals joint.
The funny part about my experience was that I made the booking at around 8:30 pm for a 9:30 pm dinner. Open Table showed this time as available, even though granted the booking was a bit late for the Newport Beach neighborhood, so I went. Once I arrived I was astonished to see that for starters the restaurant was in the musky basement (I wasn’t aware that basements exists that close to the beach) and secondly that I was received with a bit of a puzzled look by the waitress, as she declared that the kitchen was closed for already for nearly one hour (I arrived at around 9:20 pm) as no other customers showed up. I can’t imagine other restaurants would pursue a similar business strategy by closing the kitchen at 8:30 pm because there are no more incoming costumers, there would be out of business very soon. Then again, based on the number of patrons at La Cave, it appears they are close to that scenario.
This is an annual Birthday visit to one of Costa Mesa’s best vintage and quintessential steak houses. The food, service and ambiance are excellent! Lorie, our server, was beyond excellent!!!... You expect Dean, Sammy and Frank to be drinking martinis at the bar....It’s the best of the best, so good it cannot be copied!...visit often if you can!
Awesome old school steakhouse! Will definitely be back!
As always, La Cave delivered in terms of quality food.
The food was over priced for the quality of what was served. I ordered the king crab legs, the portion was small and they tasted fishy. The only decent part of the meal were the cocktails. Dinner for 4 cost $340 and definitely not worth it.
