I love this place. The vibe, the feel, and the ambiance, oozes of coolness. You can feel the history and it has the nostalgic aura of a hip speakeasy from years ago. The food & Service were outstanding as always. If you haven’t been, then you need to go and emerge yourself in a legendary restaurant.
The A/C was not working to the point that it was so uncomfortably hot, I couldn't enjoy my dinner.
Personal and staff for very professional, from beginning to end friendly people. Will definitely go back.
It was wonderful as usual! I’d recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Always a great night at La Cave. The food and drink were amazing. The atmosphere is fab.
great dinner...Cindy & Debbie did a great job !
we will return for sure...
thanks for a special evening
The Filet Mignon was over cooked and dry,it was ordered rare. The Lobster was over cooked and dry. The twice baked potato was cold and dry. My wife had the same comments regarding her order. The waitress appeared to be in a hurry to get our meal ordered and served, while we were trying to enjoy our cocktails. We were very disappointed. It’s a shame.
Nephews 40th Birthday
Special occasion special place such great history and love the ambience
one of our favorite places. good food and unique atmosphere. staff is very friendly
This is a wonderful, traditional restaurant with great food and great service.
Fun and funky! Was like going back in time! We will come again w friends!
My wife and I regularly visit La Cave for special evenings out and are never disappointed. Service, food quality and everything about La Cave is consistently excellent.
Had not been into Lave Cave in about 4 years. Made reservations and upon arriving got into the elevator with two individuals who had been standing out front taking pictures and were clearly obliterated
We were the only two there for dinner and were seated at a small booth. The next couple to arrive, again in an empty restaurant, were seated right next to us.
We ordered dinner and got some day old heated wonder bread with garlic powered on it. Had one bite.
The salad was drenched in dressing.
The fish terrible.
No longer a locals joint.
The funny part about my experience was that I made the booking at around 8:30 pm for a 9:30 pm dinner. Open Table showed this time as available, even though granted the booking was a bit late for the Newport Beach neighborhood, so I went. Once I arrived I was astonished to see that for starters the restaurant was in the musky basement (I wasn’t aware that basements exists that close to the beach) and secondly that I was received with a bit of a puzzled look by the waitress, as she declared that the kitchen was closed for already for nearly one hour (I arrived at around 9:20 pm) as no other customers showed up. I can’t imagine other restaurants would pursue a similar business strategy by closing the kitchen at 8:30 pm because there are no more incoming costumers, there would be out of business very soon. Then again, based on the number of patrons at La Cave, it appears they are close to that scenario.
This is an annual Birthday visit to one of Costa Mesa’s best vintage and quintessential steak houses. The food, service and ambiance are excellent! Lorie, our server, was beyond excellent!!!... You expect Dean, Sammy and Frank to be drinking martinis at the bar....It’s the best of the best, so good it cannot be copied!...visit often if you can!
Awesome old school steakhouse! Will definitely be back!
As always, La Cave delivered in terms of quality food.
The food was over priced for the quality of what was served. I ordered the king crab legs, the portion was small and they tasted fishy. The only decent part of the meal were the cocktails. Dinner for 4 cost $340 and definitely not worth it.
First, I will start with what is good. The quality of the food was excellent. Now here are the issues: a. I went with an older ladiy and although I made reservations, confirmed them on the day, and went early to meet at the bar for a martini with my friend. I went over and told the person in front we were ready to be seated at our reserved time which was at 6pm. b. she took us passed empty tables for two to the back room and were seated by an empty stage. It was dreary back there with no ambiance. I should have complained right there but did not want my older friend to be embarrassed. c. then we wanted to split a meal and for an extra plate, the charge was $15.95.
La Cave has been in business since 1962. A great retro experience like a scene fro Mad Men.
I am a regular customer and recommend La Cave. Consistently excellent.
Very dark. Tables close together. Quite loud. Service was great. Drinks and food came fast. Steak was done to perfection. Baked potato was cooler than room temperature. Parking is easy. My full dinner of petite filet mignon with salad and potato was $49 and husband’s full dinner of chicken breast 1/2 was $24.95. This place also has music later in the evening that we missed, but I really can’t imagine having a conversation once that starts since we could barely talk sitting next to each other before the music. I’d go back but would request a booth so I didn’t have folks dragging their behind over our table when they got up to leave.
Took my girlfriend here for the first time. Food was excellent and the service was attentive.
We have been going to La cave for decades. The food, service, and ambiance are perfect for a celebration, or just dinner for two. It's always consistently wonderful, and the cheese bread is amazing.
Hadn’t been in years. Was not disappointed! Excellent experience!
Great service and excellent food. It’s very dark downstairs but that’s part of the charm of eating here.
A very elegant experience based on historic and traditional decor. Flashback memories of wonderful times past.
Omg. I had always wanted to come here my husband and I have always talked about it. I ended up making reservations for Mother’s Day and I have never had such horrible service (ever). We asked for a menu and she said they usually don’t have Menus but she can get us some today. So she ended up getting us some but they didn’t have any of the pricing on them and We ended up ordering drinks which were great I got a martini and it was really good. Then we went on to appetizers and a couple people ordered appetizers some didn’t but she kept giving appetizers to everyone instead of just the ones that ordered it. The food was very bland, Mashed potatoes had no flavor, I ended up sharing a plate with my brother and she offered to split it for us and I said OK no problem thank you but she failed to tell me that it was also a $16 charge for splitting our food even though I was already paying like $44 for the plate, for our bill being almost $800 you would think it would be perfect service, she was very pushy and rude, when Anyone would ask a question she would be super rude with her reply. When one of my brothers didn’t order food and another person ordering a salad instead of like a full meal, and some one order appetizers for their meal. she rolled her eye at us. she went and was talking bad about us to another server and my brother Heard her. She said this table is ordering for 8 people and theirs 11. That is so extremely rude, when I made the reservation I wasn’t told that everyone had to order something, I also ask what about on Yelp it says a free dessert and she told me which ones it was and then I ordered a cheesecake and she still charge me for it. I brought it up and she said oh sorry and that was it I was so extremely bothered by this dinner. It really ruined the whole night for everyone.
We went to dinner Friday night prior to Mothers Day. I made reservations and forgot to request a booth. After we were seated, the concierge came to us and said the coupe that had made reservation for the same time, and requested a booth, hadn't shown up and asked if we wanted the booth. Great way to begin the experience.
Food was awesome, will be going back very soon! I Highly recommend La Cave!!
My past visits were better. Overall food quality and taste not very good this trip. Prime rib was said to be med rare but was well done and very chewy. The char flavor on the Halibut was too much and the famous garlic cheese toast not as flavorful and some batches were too crispy. Disappointed with this visit
The service is what made this special
The filet was average
Crab legs outstanding
Our server was wonderful and caring and funny, as was the water server. Would have liked live music to have started earlier than 10pm
Always delicious! The staff was so friendly. Always look forward to dining there.
Old school Steakhouse pride in service someone historical very comfortable facility great atmosphere great attitude and very good food
Very pleasant experience. Food and service excellent.
La Cave is always a pleasure to visit and the service is always top notch. It is the first restaurant where I’ve ever seen someone tip the cook on the way out also!
This place is the best. The restaurant in located in the basement with a all red old Hollywood vibe. The food and service is excellent. This is one of a few places left in California that serves real old fashion steak and salad dinners. Truly the best place to eat for any occasion.
We always enjoy our nights at La Cave. The food is always delicious and the service outstanding. The "Rat Pack" atmosphere is so different and fun. It adds an extra special element. I am the third generation in my family to share this special place.
