About La Cava
The LA CAVA concept is based on Armando's roots. Born and raised in Florence, he greq up learning that as a local, one would go dining in the little Osterias where everything was made fresh daily, prepared with basic ingredients, simple recipes, delightful flavors and lots of love, for a fantastic experience that was also "gentle" on your wallet.

La Cava Ratings and Reviews
We had a couple of the meal-sized salads for lunch. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Our waiter was very attentive and thorough. The featured wine was very good. The menu seems quite approachable for all tastes. The ambience was light and airy. We were surprised that there were not more patrons in there for lunch. It was rather quiet. There are some outdoor tables, but as you are right on Ventura Blvd., it could be a bit noisy out there. We would go back.
La Cava is consistent with its superior food and service. Appetizers Frittura di Calamari and Scampi e fagioli continue to be amazing--we have them frequently. We will most likely have another big birthday party in April, including small children. Last year, Armando (owner) accommodated our large party to perfection. Can't wait...... We always get a great meal at La Cava. This visit was no different. I ordered the special Branzino which was probably the best version of the dish I have had. It was layered with very thin slices of potato that had been browned, and covered with a light tomato sauce. It was absolutely delicious. My husband had the risotto with veal stock and rosemary and was very pleased.
What kind of restaurant could offer so small tables?! Are you insane?
Noise was incredibly high as our neighbor table customer while talking to his girlfriend was actually hurting my ears!
What idiot could possibly keep up with this punishment place in civilized area of Los Angels County?!
Wish you all the worst,
Reserved table for two on 01-06-18 at 7 pm.
We love La Cava. It’s a small neighborhood spot with yummy food and usually it’s fairly quiet there Which we appreciate. The food is consistently good and fairly priced. We went for New Year’s Eve and they offered the regular menu which I love. We ordered two bottles of wine for he six of us and two desserts, each couple shared salads and each had an entree and the total was $150 per couple before tip. For a special night with excellent service it was worth it.
La Cava has the look, feel and taste of a nice Italian trattoria. Friendly staff, intimate, casually elegant without being stuffy, and an accessible menu of salads, soups, pasta and entrees. The wooden chairs are not great for an extended evening, but for an upscale lunch or easy dinner, it's a great choice!
The host of the restaurant was extremely rude. He immediately sat us at a very tiny table on the patio, without even asking if we would care to wait for an indoor seat. The patio was enclosed and they had 3 heaters on, it was like an oven in there, although they did turn them off when I requested. It just gave the evening a bad start. The service was adequate and actually the food was good, but expensive. The tables for two were so small you could barely have water and drink and a plate on them at the same time. I would not go back here despite the good food.
Food was excellent, as always! Mozzarella with Shaved Black Truffle pizza, and Polenta e Funghi appetizers were so good, I could only eat half of my Pappardelle with Short Rib! Took the other half home and it was just as good the next day for lunch. Service was great - we will be back soon!
Food was just ok and uninspired, pricey for what it was. Nice atmosphere, but I'd keep it simple to pastas. Also no bar, and aside from wine, only one offering of bottled beer, Peroni, no draft. Don't bother if you wish to drink anything other than wine. Would recommend only for atmosphere and simple fare.
Been a neighborhood gem for a long time, Tables and chairs are pretty dated.
My food was good, my girlfriends fish was a disappointment for the price.
The ambiance and food presentation does not warrant there high prices
Probably won't return
As always, La Cava does not disappoint. This is my 4th or 5th time visiting La Cava; I've been once for lunch and the other times for dinner. The setting is always so serene and relaxing, whether you are sitting inside or on the patio. It truly is a little piece of paradise on Ventura Blvd.
On my recent trip to La Cava, I took my friend for a birthday dinner. We shared two starters; one was the Burrata special; it was served with fresh basil and roasted peppers. All I can say is wow. Heavenly! The other starter was the Polenta e Funghi, also highly recommended. For dinner we ordered Braised Short Ribs and Pollo alla Parmigiana. Delicious!!!
I would be remiss without mentioning the nice welcome & wonderful service that you receive at La Cava. Our server, Josue (who also goes by Josh) is a true gem. He is very personable, warm, efficient, and a delight to speak with. When you visit, make sure you ask for Josue/Josh! :)
Excellent Caesar, lightly dressed. Chicken Milanese was crisp, tender and not greasy BUT, I have never had chicken or veal prepared "ala Milanese" where there were no diced tomatoes and no arugula on the dish. The meal was just a chicken cutlet; a well prepared cutlet, but not Milanese.
The corkage fee of $30 seems a tad high; $20 would be nice, $25 acceptable.
We have been to La Cava before and have always had an excellent dining experience. But this time the food was off, and the restaurant was noisy. Couldn't hear our own conversation because of the table next to us. This is not usually the case.
The pasta was overcooked on two dishes and another guest had the lobster special, and said that it was bland and the lobster was chewy. We were introducing our friends to La Cava and were disappointed and a little embarrassed after having raved about the place. May have just been an off night, and we are hoping they get back on their game again soon, as it is a neighborhood gem.
From reading the reviews, I wanted to give this neighborhood restaurant a try. One friend ordered pasta which she said was good. The other ordered the striped bass which she also said was good. I ordered the chicken milanese which came with mashed potatoes. I asked to switch the potatoes for any kind of side pasta and was told no. Surprising at an Italian restaurant. The chicken was just OK. The service was OK. Probably won't go back.
