Went for dinner with a couple of friends. I had chosen the place because the menu had a good amount of variety. We started with the chicken beignets. I don't think they were much like beignets (more like tenders), but they were tasty. I had the baby lamp chops. I don't think the menu said they were baby and if it didn't, it should. They were really good, but I would say portions were on the meager side and could have done with potato or rice or something. We ordered the chocolate cake, which was okay. The texture was more like a souffle than cake. I'm always glad to add new French places to my list here in NY.
I dined solo while in town for the dog show. Mussels to start, then a nicois salad. Everything was nice & I enjoyed the meal.
First time. Near the theater district. Food was excellent and at a reasonable cost. We’ll be back.
Friendly small place with cozy atmosphere, good food, and good prices for NYC. I recommend getting a reservation. Bathroom needs to be updated.
Perfect neighborhood place. Food was fresh and delicious, service was excellent, prices were terrific, atmosphere was cozy and intimate, you're able to have a normal conversation (unfortunately most of 9th Avenue feels that you have to have the music so loud that diners cannot talk). It was EXACTLY what I was hoping for and I will be back often.
I loved the salad and the grilled chicken. I love the quiet setting and mood lighting. WONDERFUL
Très bon rapport qualité prix ...service cordial et empressé ... un peu de chauffage dans la toilette ne serait pas un luxe. SVP réparer la porte d’entrée qui ferme mal et nous frigorifie.
La carafe is always a great dining expierience. From the wonderful staff and the delicious food it is our favorite nyc restaurant!!
La Carafe is a great place to dine. The staff is very friendly and attentive, without being overly so. The ambiance is wonderful, especially the lighting. Service was excellent and the food delicious. I had an appetizer (scallops), entrée (shrimp on skewers), and dessert (profiterole), all of which were perfectly prepared.
This is my favorite restaurant in Manhattan and I very much look forward to my next visit there.
Great little local place, friendly service, cozy atmosphere, very nice, depandable restaurant.
For a place advertising as a French/ Mediterranean bistro it was very disappointing to not only see a very limited wine list but also that the top 5 wines (by $ so assuming quality too) were not available. Food was just "OK" with babaganosh and Tsaziki being rather bland and French fries soft & limp (bistro fries should be crispy). Service was friendly and attentive.
Always a great meal and time with friends/family. It's on our must-do list for every time we come to NYC.
We went with another couplet after theatre for an early dinner. All four of us were very happy with our meals which were tasty and priced right; the wait staff was attentive and helpful, the atmosphere of this little restaurant was very warm and inviting. We will definitely return for another meal at this restaurant - a very pleasant experience.
Had a lovely pretheater meal. Great service and fresh food.
We arrived early and were waiting for one more guest. The waitress was very gracious and sat us at the table anyway. She did not pressure us to order anything while we were waiting. Food was delicious. Two of us ordered the steak, it was very tender. One enjoyed the lamb chops and the 4th one ordered veal n cream sauce. She liked the sauce so much that she asked for bread to dip in! Desserts were also yummy: profiterole, chocolate mousse, dame blanche. Will definitely go back La Carafe.
Disappointed....., too noisy, had to ask for bread, charge for coffee refill - would not return
We loved the service and nice ambience with our friends.
Come to La Carafe all the time. We enjoyed it as usual.
So good back again today for brunch before a matinee
Went there for post theater wine and snack and served perfectly. French wines by glass and Meditereinian tapas. Only....the scallops were a bit old.
Perfectly fine place to eat, but nothing exceptional. Not the best Mediterranean by any means. A bit dark without being quite romantic because of their large open door.
Delicious food and fast, courteous service. One problem, the a/c made too much noise.
La Carafe is that rare find in Hell's Kitchen: a place to get a reasonably priced, well prepared meal accompanied by decent house wines, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere where you can actually hear the conversation at your own table.
The staff at La Carafe is always welcoming and efficient, the food tasty and reasonably priced, and you can actually hear your dinner companions' conversation. My go-to place post-theatre.
Very welcoming waitstaff! Food was just ok... salmon appetizer was just salmon on toasted white bread garnished with salad and mayonnaise. The same salad served as a side salad with one dish and when served with five goat cheese medallions and dressing it was the $12 goat cheese standalone salad . Chicken skewers were just ok. Nothing special.
This place was a disappointment this time around. Started with bad wine. Like, week-old wine. When I asked the waiter if it was old, he poured it down the sink. He gave me a glass of something else. Then lamb ordered rare was medium and tuna ordered rare was well-done. I also had to ask for bread three times before some stale, burnt pita was brought to the table. I don't think we'll be coming back.
My friend and I had a meal here before seeing Kinky Boots on Broadway. We were extremely impressed with the delicious, fresh, and well-prepared food. We had the spicy scallops and falafel for our appetizers. Both were generous portions and perfectly seasoned. For dinner I had the steak, which was truly amazing. It was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was so good I wanted to drink it out of the little dish it came in. My friend had the chicken/mushroom dish, which was very healthy. We both had delicious wine (she a sauvignon blanc, and myself a riesling). For dessert we had the chocolate mousse, which was divine! The service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is small, with a french bistro feel. I will absolutely return to this restaurant the next time I am in the city to see a show. I highly recommend.
I honestly reserved this restaurant because it offered a coupon and was near our theater. We were not disappointed. The restaurant was empty, perhaps due to the early hour. Our server was attentive. Our meals were very good. Grilled salmon and the spaghetti with seafood( very reasonable)The appetizers were very good too. Roasted asparagus and a tomato mozzarella salad. This was a great find!!!
We had an enjoyable evening here. The cheese plate offered a nice variety of cheeses with bread and grapes. Nice to share with a glass of wine. Veal portion could have been a bit bigger. Lots of sauce and not so much meat. Service was good.
We had a certificate and the restaurant/manager changed the terms of the certificate because it was Friday which was not a condition at all. The food isn't particularly French or unique.
