We came here as a birthday dinner before going to see Hamilton at the CIBC down the street. Overall it was an incredible experience, with delicious food and amazing portion sizes. Our waitress surprised us with a rum cake on the house to celebrate my birthday and it was also incredible. We will be back to celebrate future occasions here.
We were promptly seated but were waiting somewhat lengthy periods between each course. The waitress was somewhat informal. Food was okay.
Went there since it was close to theatre - food and service were excellent and the staff was attentive to the fact that we had tickets and made sure we got our meal in time to make the show
Ordered chicken. No chicken. Too much dressing. No time to fix
Overpriced for poor quality food. Service was slow ,too. Would not recommend or go again
Excellent as always, been dining at the Italian Village restaurants for almost 40 years!
Had dinner before going to see Hamilton. Told our waitress our time schedule and she was very good at keeping us on schedule. Great Italian food and portions are generous.
I went here Saturday night with my daughter and granddaughter for a pre-theatre dinner. My daughter and granddaughter had the seafood ravioli and I had the three cheese tortelli. We were all very happy with our choices. We all chose a Caesar's salad to go with our entree and it was delicious.
When I go to Italian Village I usually go to The Village, so this was a nice change of pace.
We were greeted and seated at a table in the back which was large enough for the 5 of us, as requested. The service was good and the prices very reasonable for a city restaurant; however the food was average. We had the chicken Parmesan, chicken Marsala and the chefs special steak medallions with mushrooms in Marsala sauce. The steak was tender and the best meal of all of them. However, the marsala sauce was very thick in consistency for both the steak and chicken. Both chicken parm and Marsala were average at best. We also had the gelato (nothing special) and cannoli (good). Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere and were treated very well, however the food was pretty average and nothing special.
Always a wonderful meal and experience here! One of our favorite places in the city1!
Booked a reservation before we went to a play down the street. Nice atmosphere. Food was good. We had Lasagna, Chicken Alfredo, Eggplant Parmesan, and Chicken Parmesan. They ask if you are attending a play. Make sure to get you out in time. We booked two hours before play and had about 25 extra minutes to spare. I accidentally ordered wrong item on menu, but they fixed it right away when I realized what I had done. They refill water as soon as it gets low. Overall a very nice place. Some people dress up and others dressed casual. The only negative was that it did not appear to be handicap accessible (but I did not ask). We look forward to visiting again sometime when we return to Chicago.
Great location and food! We were staying at the Hampton Inn and this was easy to walk. The atmosphere was too quite for my likely. There was no music or kitchen nosies. I could hear everyone's conversation and I'm sure they could hear ours. The food made it wroth it. Portions sizes were better than average and everything we ordered was prepared well and was seasoned deliciously! Highly recommend if you're in the theatre district area.
Veal piccata was bad, veal marcela was just not as bad. Bread was delicious.
Great ambiance , great tasting meal. Never been to Italy but this has to be as good.
This was the best lasagna and manicotti we ever had.
Another great meal at the Cantina, Can't go wrong here, always excellent good and service!
We had tickets for WWDTM across the street at Chase Auditorium and were pressed for time. The staff moved fast made GREAT cocktails, food was great comfort food with euro touch, we got fed well and made curtain time. Its the PERFECT place if you are going to an evening show.
Food was great and they were accommodating of our theater plans.
We arrived a few minutes early and were immediately seated. Wait staff was right there to take drink order and the great service continued until we left. The food was perfect from presentation to temperature to taste.
IT was very nice. Just do not order the Chicken Marsala it was chicken that was dry and brown gravey not good at all. But then I order what my husband had and it was Amazing . Best Ravioli ever!
Great ambiance, great food. I would recommend to book reservations in advance since they tend to book quickly. The overall food and service was good. The waiter was very attentive and checked on us quite often, which is a plus considering how busy they were.
Service was fantastic but the food was subpar. The scallops were overcooked and the pasta was bland. I won't be going back. There are far better Italian places in Chicago.
Love the Village as an old standard. The menu specials were great and a good change form the
standard fare. You can count on La Cantina for a satisfying meal.
I was disappointed. I used to go to La Cantina when I worked in Chicago and have memories of excellent food. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing and we were rushed to go to the theatre that evening.
It was just ok. Ambiance is good, service was good, food was disappointing, it was just ok. One thing to note, it is NOT handicapped accessible. There is a long flight of stairs you have to go down to access the restaurant and there is no elevator. Something to be aware of if you are dining with someone with mobility issues.
Caesar Salad was very good. Soup and pastas were of large size, but mediocre quality.
Excellent food and experience
Haven't been here for quite a while, but the food was as good as we remembered. Great meal and outstanding service.
We had an excellent meal at La Cantina after seeing Hamilton. Great location; great food; friendly wait staff. I will definitely be back.
This is a great place - Great Food! Great Location and the Staff is Awesome!
It was our daughter and her friends 16th birthday and we brought them to Chicago to see Hamilton. We chose La Cantina for our meal before the show. It truly enhanced an amazing weekend. The service was spot on, the ambiance is wonderful, and the food was excellent. The calamari we had for an appetizer is the best calamari we have ever had. We had lasagne, chicken, shrimp, and filet and all of the meals were world class with generous portions. The waiter sang Happy Birthday to the girls and we will all remember it forever. I would highly recommend La Cantina if you are in Chicago.
Great Dinner before the show at the Chicago Theatre!
Excellent customer service and very accommodating for theater crowd
Petra is awesome! She made great suggestions for the menu and wine. The steaks were perfect and the sides yummy. We had a wonderful time. Thank you.
I had one of the "La Cantina Chophouse Specialties" and it was only OK. Honestly, in a town with this strong of an Italian community, I'd hoped for better.
The location and decor were absolutely amazing though.
Excellent food and service. We were impressed with the ambience.
Had an amazing waitress and great service.
Old Italian served up in a grotto type atmosphere. Server Mark as excellent.I like old style sauces. This place did not disappoint. I can get a great steak at home, but I cannot get Mama's gravy. Salad was so good, you know simplicity is garlic. Warm bread olive oil and good Parmesan make the meal.
The multiple dining rooms used to have walls lined with tanks of colorful fish which made for a relaxing ambiance. I miss the fish. Now the ambiance is just that of a basement. Food was tasty. Food was tasty. Service was efficient but impersonal. The Village restaurant upstairs in the same complex is more fun.
Service was excellent. For our meal we choose the theatre package, as we were attending a play after dinner. The chicken parm was just average, as was the soup and cannoli.
I would dine there, but I would order something different.
