We have come here every time we come to Chicago. Never disappointed, always enjoy the time there.
Food was good, was a little bland though. Food had hair in it but our waiter replaced everything with no problem so we decided to stay and continue. Service wasn’t the best either but the overall experience wasn’t so bad. Sensed we were treated a little different by staff because of skin color so with that being said i can’t recommend to anyone that I know was waiting to see how my experience went.
One of my favorites. I always go here before a show, as it is right in the theater district. The staff is so accommodating, especially Emilio at the bar and Hans who manages the restaurant. The food is fantastic as well. If you go you must order the tiramisu. It is the best I have ever had, even better than what I have had in Italy!
Our table was ready when we walked in. Our waitress was knowledgeable and very friendly. The food came out hot and very attractive. We received several refills on pop and water without having to flag anyone down and our empty dishes were removed and didn’t pile up on the table. Very pleasant conditions
The pasta was raw in some parts. The chicken was dry. The fish stew was greasy.
Excellent food. Service was quick.
We went to the La Cantina before going to see Hamilton and dinner was great. Our server Indiria was very nice and attentive. Will definitely be returning.
Our evening meal was before the theatre. We DID have reservations. Very efficient service. Great food. Wide selection. We considered the cost to be fair. Absolutely will go again. Absolutely will recommend. Grateful for a memorable meal.
Great service. We were running late and were going to see Hamilton. Our waitress asked us right away if we were seeing a show. We had 45 mins. She made sure we not only had excellent service with no pressure and made sure we were on time. The food was amazing. Thank you.
Best lasagna I have ever had! Restaurant is charming.
We ate here before going to the theater. We only had appetizers, but they were good. Our biggest complaint was that when served coffee, no teaspoon is given in order to stir the cream.
Great service and great food. One of our favorites 30 years ago when we lived in Chicago, and now that we’ve moved back we’re delighted to find that the place is even better than we remembered.
Best place in Chicago. Professionally run restaurant. Excellent food. Excellent service. This is a place to go in Chicago!!
A very fine and sumptuous place to dine in downtown Chicago. The staff is courteous and response to every need is prompt.
We ate in the “basement” of the Italian Village which is the La Cantina Italian Chophouse. The ambiance was nice but the seating is a little weird. There is a long hallway when you enter the restaurant and there are tables (2-tops) along one side of the hallway. This is where we sat which is little odd because you’re basically sitting in a hallway and because of that there is a good deal of traffic that constantly goes by. If you eat here (and are a party of 2) I would call ahead and request that you don’t get seated in the hallway immediately upon entering the restaurant. There were some other areas of the restaurant that were tucked away. It’s almost like they wanted to add more tables in the place and decided to use the hallway. Weird. Other than that everything was great. Service was good. Food was tasty. And wine was good. They also asked if we were attending a play, which we were, and were quick to get us in/out.
Great place for dinner before the theatre. They will hold your take home left overs until after the show. You can also valet and have parking until after the show.
Waitress was very unfriendly, tried to ask question about one item And if it was good her response was “no!” The tiramisu was made on the spot, lady fingers were crunchy and hard, only whipped cream, no marscappne nor liqueurs. I would have expected more from an Italian restaurant
We eat at La Cantina when we go to Chicago. Never been disappointed. Best to make reservations
Great place to go! It was really nice that they honored my request for a quiet table, since we were celebrating my wife's birthday.
We were looking for great tasting, egg free italian food and we got nothing less. The sauce was great, the bread was delicious and the side of vegetables was perfectly cooked and seasoned.
Great seafood raviloi
Great food, elegant atmosphere, wonderful theater menu.
Wonderful food and people, the location is nice as well. You can enjoy good food and go a few blocks for the play Hamilton.
La Cantina is my wife's favorite restaurant so we eat there several times a year. We always get treated royally. The Maitre d Hans is like an old friend. Thursday night my wife had the seafood ravioli. It was wonderful. I ate the Frutti di Mare pasta dish. It was the best Frutti di Mare I've eaten. We love the atmosphere and the prices are reasonable. We recommend La Cantina to anyone who loves Italian Food.
Food was wonderful. Must have the cannoli.
Food was good. Service excellent ambiance good. Nice wine selection also.
Ate with family before symphony. Everyone was happy. Waitstaff asked if there was Em event to ensure time schedule was perfect
Amazing! Food was delicious and the staff was excellent! Can’t beat it! Perfect before seeing a show too!
Great Food and atmosphere for a romantic night, or just to grab a bite with friends
The restaurant is very charming with a location that is perfect for the playhouse. The meal was very good however could have used more flavoring for a pasta. We were not disappointed however
We had a reservation at La Cantina but actually ate upstairs at Vevere, as some of our party couldn’t walk down the stairs to La Cantina. Our waiter, Dane was efficient, personable and charming. The service was excellent. The food was wonderful; I enjoyed my seafood soup and eggplant parmigiana. My friends enjoyed their minestrone and pasta dishes. The ambiance and decor do much to lend to the overall experience of a tasteful, old world restaurant owned by the same family for three generations.
Great food and service, went there before seeing Hamilton as it was a block a way from the CIBC Theater. I loved that are waitress asked if we were attending a show and made sure we were out on time. Will definitely comeback next time I’m in Chicago.
I’m Italian and am visiting from out of town. The bang for your buck here is amazing, and it was ALMOST as good as my grandma’s cooking. Highly recommend. Will definitely return if given the chance.
Food was good. Server was timely/attentive, but not very friendly.
This is a casual basic Italian restaurant. The service was great; a little too quick, but I think that's what the average customer is looking for.
La cantina is a fantastic restaurant that has great food.
Best food and service in Chicago.
Very mediocre food. A small bowl of gnocchi for $26 is a bit outrageous. Seafood salad had a lot of ingrediants, but was tasteless. Could have used some additional seasoning or taste. The ambiance was sterile. Actuality no ambiance at all. A LONG long corridor of tables in a nondescript narrow space was not attractive. Vivere and Italian Village on the upper floors were far SUPERIOR. If I ever go that venue again I will go upstairs. As far as I'm concerned La Cantina has NOTHING going for it. Not even price.
A most excellent dining experience!
Located in the cellar area, but cozy and much more elegant than I thought it would be (better than pics online). Traditional favorites like lasagne and chicken parm were a hit with my visiting relatives.
