The restaurant was located in the theater district and convenient for grabbing dinner before the show. Service was great. Our entrees were just ok, I expected better, we had two different chicken dishes and they were not very flavorful.
Food is delicious. Portions are the right size, not too big. Tasteful environment, great service. Really enjoyed our meal here.
Great option for a quick but high quality pre-theater dinner.
Poor service overshadowed a great atmosphere and pretty good food.
We enjoyed our pre theatre dinner at La Cantina Chophouse.
Food was excellent and service great!
Still our favorite after 25 years.
We went before our Hamilton show. It was the perfect location! I made reservations a couple of months in advance. However the hostess was rude to my friend who was looking for us between the 3 restaurants and was not able receive my texts from the basement. The hostess was young and didn’t seem to know the system, as we had already been seated by an older gentleman beforehand. My friend was walking all over and felt frustrated and put off by this rude hostess.
Great food and service!
On my open table account I have my request to Not be seated near the kitchen and bathroom. Our table was next to the server station and directly next to the bathroom. People constantly passing our table. I wasn’t happy about that. Food was good. I wish we could have sat in the other side of the restaurant that had more ambiance. Side note-We were one of the first people to be seated when the restaurant opened. Not sure if we will return. Probably not
Waitress very unpleasant and inattentive.
Specialty cocktails were delicious, as well as our food. We had one gluten free in our party, who was accommodated with ease, and one very picky child, who was able to order plain spaghetti. All of this was accomplished with a smile and without making them feel like problems. All of our food was delicious, including the desserts. We would love to come again when we are next in Chicago.
The food was excellent and the service was terrific!
We were seated right next to kitchen so noise bothered us a bit. But it was a very private booth, almost a room. The wine was okay, food was excellent, from salads to bread to all 3 entrees we tried between the 5 of us. All staff was very professional and friendly.
Enjoyed our dinner!
The chicken parmigiana and the spaghetti with meatballs were excellent. It is across from the CIBC theater and in the downtown core so it is busy on weekends and theater nights so reservations are highly recommended if not mandatory. I was able to make ours the day before for five without a problem. Though if you get there right as they open around four there wasn’t a wait even on a Friday with Hamilton playing across the street.
Romantic ambiance, excellent service and delicious food.
the Service was great. Table was ready on time. The Food was just okay.
Great service. Delicious meal
The best and oldest Italian restaurant in the city! Gina Capitanini has done the three generations of her family well!
Service good, everyone was nice. Food good but felt packed in like a sardine!
Excellent food, excellent service; we did not feel rushed to eat and leave. Wonderful place!
It was romantic and a perfect atmosphere for my date and I, thank you!
Food was great, bartender was awesome! In Chicago for a weekend, found this spot and would definitely go back!
Every employee we encountered was friendly, extremely polite, and service oriented. Our server checked in often without being intrusive. The food was delicious and very nicely presented. The atmosphere of this restaurant makes you feel as if you have been transported to Italy for the evening.
We have come here every time we come to Chicago. Never disappointed, always enjoy the time there.
Food was good, was a little bland though. Food had hair in it but our waiter replaced everything with no problem so we decided to stay and continue. Service wasn’t the best either but the overall experience wasn’t so bad. Sensed we were treated a little different by staff because of skin color so with that being said i can’t recommend to anyone that I know was waiting to see how my experience went.
One of my favorites. I always go here before a show, as it is right in the theater district. The staff is so accommodating, especially Emilio at the bar and Hans who manages the restaurant. The food is fantastic as well. If you go you must order the tiramisu. It is the best I have ever had, even better than what I have had in Italy!
Our table was ready when we walked in. Our waitress was knowledgeable and very friendly. The food came out hot and very attractive. We received several refills on pop and water without having to flag anyone down and our empty dishes were removed and didn’t pile up on the table. Very pleasant conditions
The pasta was raw in some parts. The chicken was dry. The fish stew was greasy.
Excellent food. Service was quick.
We went to the La Cantina before going to see Hamilton and dinner was great. Our server Indiria was very nice and attentive. Will definitely be returning.
Our evening meal was before the theatre. We DID have reservations. Very efficient service. Great food. Wide selection. We considered the cost to be fair. Absolutely will go again. Absolutely will recommend. Grateful for a memorable meal.
Great service. We were running late and were going to see Hamilton. Our waitress asked us right away if we were seeing a show. We had 45 mins. She made sure we not only had excellent service with no pressure and made sure we were on time. The food was amazing. Thank you.
Best lasagna I have ever had! Restaurant is charming.
We ate here before going to the theater. We only had appetizers, but they were good. Our biggest complaint was that when served coffee, no teaspoon is given in order to stir the cream.
Great service and great food. One of our favorites 30 years ago when we lived in Chicago, and now that we’ve moved back we’re delighted to find that the place is even better than we remembered.
Best place in Chicago. Professionally run restaurant. Excellent food. Excellent service. This is a place to go in Chicago!!
A very fine and sumptuous place to dine in downtown Chicago. The staff is courteous and response to every need is prompt.
We ate in the “basement” of the Italian Village which is the La Cantina Italian Chophouse. The ambiance was nice but the seating is a little weird. There is a long hallway when you enter the restaurant and there are tables (2-tops) along one side of the hallway. This is where we sat which is little odd because you’re basically sitting in a hallway and because of that there is a good deal of traffic that constantly goes by. If you eat here (and are a party of 2) I would call ahead and request that you don’t get seated in the hallway immediately upon entering the restaurant. There were some other areas of the restaurant that were tucked away. It’s almost like they wanted to add more tables in the place and decided to use the hallway. Weird. Other than that everything was great. Service was good. Food was tasty. And wine was good. They also asked if we were attending a play, which we were, and were quick to get us in/out.
