La Bussola Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
From start to finish, the food and service was amazing. Growing up in Glen Cove, I was there many years ago because it was a staple in downtown. Having not lived there for quite some time, it was a pleasant surprise to come back (on a friend’s recommendation) only to experience that it is as good, if not better than I remember.
Ah, La Bussola - The service was outstanding, having that great quality of attentiveness without being intrusive. Wine list is very moderately priced and offers some good values. The food was excellent, served piping hot ( not having been waiting under a heat lamp) and the portions very very large. All in all, an outstanding neighborhood gem well worth a long trip to get there!
And the prices, i thought, were much lower than i expected - in fact, much better than many of the other restaurants in the area - and i am very frequent restaurant patron, usually 2 - 3 times a week!
We'll be back in a week or so - you should too!
We dined here during LI Restaurant Week. Their Price Fix options were excellent. I looked at their regular menu just to peek and it was filled with great options. We started with chopped baked clams that were awesome and a Ceasar salad that exceeded expectations. It was recommended by our server, I think Brandon was his name.
My girlfriend has the Branzino and I had the veal. Both dishes were fantastic.
The service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive.
We will be back!
First timer and was really looking forward to the meal. The menu is very exciting, and it was hard to choose from so many interesting things. I'll certainly return as most of the food was good, but for the money, some things could have been better. For example, the burrata was the hardest, driest burrata I have ever had, and I've had a lot. The salad had too much dressing and the salmon, a very fresh, good sized piece of fish, was a little too oversauced; I guess I just prefer simpler foods. My partner, however, was very pleased with the scallops and risotto. The service was wonderful and we enjoyed our desserts. Like everything else, you just have to make the right choices!
Our favorite Italian restaurant. Close your eyes and point a finger at the menu; you can't go wrong. We've had most of the items on the menu and all have been great. To single out one or two would be unfair to those unnamed. If this review prompts you to try La Bussola, you will be forever grateful.
My boyfriend took our families to La Bussola for my birthday and it was great from start to finish. The wait staff was extremely attentive, flexible, patient, and helpful - giving us suggestions, repeating specials, and checking in often. The food was absolutely delicious. We had a number of appetizers from fried mozzarella to salad to grilled octopus, etc. and we enjoyed all of it. Everyone's entrees were exceptional. They then sang to me and presented me with a homemade napoleon cake - the best, most fresh, light, delicious napoleon I have ever had. It was amazing! This is definitely a great choice (though expensive) to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion as it is consistently excellent (it had come recommended to me by multiple people). Enjoy!
When we arrived there were so many tables available and the hostess wanted to seat us an an undesirable table by an entrance. The service was terrible. We were ignored by the waiter. The sauce for the fried mozzarella balls was ice cold and we couldn't get the waiters attention.
I used to be regular at La Bussola for years but haven't been there for awhile.
The restaurant was not up to its usual high standards. Delivery of the main courses was slow and my scallops were sandy, rubbery and the size of quarters. One was broken, but was plated and sent from the kitchen anyway. The risotto underneath was not creamy. I have had this same dish a number of times before and it has always been excellent. We will chalk this up to a single off night because this place has usually been a favorite of ours. Hopefully, the next visit will be better.
The meal was delicious even though they were busy because of restaurant week. The salad special was a creative mix of flavors Gorgonzola cheese, bacon, hazelnuts and grapes over a bed of arugula - yum! The pan seared attic char was perfectly prepared with roasted cauliflower . The Napoleon made with light flaky pastry was the best I have ever had. Will definitely go back and recommend to friends!
