Chef Daniel Bojorquez has created a menu which has culinary influences rooted in the same countries as many of the residents of East Somerville. We invite you to enjoy old favorite dishes such as the prime rib meat cart and the fully loaded sweet potato or new dishes like the grilled lamb chop.
La Brasa is a Mexican Steak House and Grill, located on Broadway in East Somerville adjacent to its sister restaurant Fat Hen.

Rarely does a restaurant have all the qualities of a friendly casual atmosphere, an amazing array of delectable plates in both vegetable and meat/ fish dishes, beautiful interesting decor, and an approachable owner. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!
Food and ambiance were excellent, but on the whole overpriced.
Nice ambience and terrific service. The food was a mix of truly excellent and "fine but not memorable", with the taco and dumpling appetizers being truly exceptional but the roast chicken (kinda dry) and fish entrees (under-seasoned) clocking in as a solid average. We might again to see if the kitchen was more on their game for the mains, as it seems like a nice place with excellent staff.
We had an awesome time at La Brasa brunch! Food was killer, service was welcoming and attentive and the ambiance fit the brunch vibe perfectly. Definitely one of the best brunches in town!
I really wanted to like this spot. We had a 7:30 reservation and by the time we ordered they do not have available either of the entrees that we wanted to order. There was not a huge selection of options to begin with. We ordered the rib eye to split. Initially they gave us only one steak knife, huh??? My order was to be non-diary and then a side arrived with cheese on it. The plates were tiny to eat on... we requested another couple of side plates for the side dishes. The waiter was nice enough, but I think very inexperienced. There were just two many moments that didn't help make a great dining experience. The place itself had a nice vibe, I just wished the food and experience matched that.
La Brasa is a wonderful gem in East Somerville. It has high quality food and an open space with large wooden furniture to make you feel cozy. And the servers are attentive.
Thank you so much Justina! We aim to feed everyone well, feel welcomed and taken care of.
This was my third time there. The second wasn't very good but I opted to try again and was disappointed. The food was over salted and over sweet. Several of the main options where gone (including burgers). Bread took a long time in coming and the service was weak. No drink orders asked for. Given it was only 20% full, I was a bit surprised we didn't get much attention.
Hi Somervilleeating - I'm sorry your experiences warranted this type of review. I will certainly speak with staff regarding your points, and I hope to use your review as example for improvement. Best Wishes, Katelyn
The waiter was not attentive and didn’t make us feel welcomed. I’ll think twice before heading to this establishment for Father’s Day
Hi Anonymous, I'm sorry to hear your server didn't make you feel welcomed. This is certainly not the impression we wanted to give, especially on Father's Day. I will make sure to speak with my staff as I'm seeing a trend from the day of your visit. Best Wishes, Katelyn
The empanadas were AMAZING! And who would've thought a whole branzino can be elevated to a make your own fish taco dish? SO SO SO GOOD!
I really like the food and the hip atmosphere. I think the selections are limited and ambiance almost too hip and not warm, but that is okay for certain types of get togethers.
La Brasa is truly a hidden gem of Somerville. Attention to detail in the flavoring of every dish, quality ingredients, and great service make this pricier venue truly worth it. While I can only speak to the dinner offerings, I would confidently attend brunch service as well.
Terrible for and service
Hi Anonymous, I'm sorry to hear you had a terrible experience. If you would be more specific, I would love to take this as a chance to receive some constructive criticism, and use it to improve next time. Thank you so much!
Mostly food was just 'meh' and too salty. Felt overpriced.
The team at La Brasa prove how amazing service can elevate a world class menu into a remarkable evening. From the moment the hostess greeted us, to being seated at a comfortable, rustic table in the beautifully lit space, we knew we were in good hands. Beautiful dishes from the kitchen arrived quickly upon ordering, with the deftly-trained staff sliding and removing plates without interrupting the table's conversations. The cocktails (one of which was non-alcoholic) were next level - the bartender exhibited a superior knowledge of flavours, texture, presentation. And the FOOD - each dish was a delightful surprise, where standards like nachos and loaded sweet potato came with exciting twists, enhancing the flavours amidst generous portions. I cannot recommend La Brasa enough - go! go! go!
I wanted to like La Brasa so bad and maybe we just caught them on a bad night. Walked into an almost empty restaurant and had to wait for a table, even with a reservation... and there was no one else there. Sat at the bar. Waited 10 minutes for a drink. Finally get a drink. Hostess tells us our table is ready but we have to close out at the bar before going to the table. Again, there were about 20 people in the entire place, why couldn't they transfer this drink to our table? Waited 15 minutes for the waitress to give us menus. Waited another 20+ for her to take our order. Food came out fast. Except dessert, which took another 20 minutes. Thank god I had good company that I was looking forward to catching up with, otherwise I probably would have left. It was laughably bad service but I don't even think it was the server's fault. She was honestly the only person taking orders in the whole place. Maybe all the other servers and bartenders called out that night. Not sure it's worth trying again.
Hi Shannon, I'm sorry to hear about your poor experience. I'm afraid I don't see your reservation for guest count, however we do seat complete parties only. If you arrived before your other party members, that could have been a reason for the wait. I will certainly speak to my staff regarding product wait times - I do know we were quite busy on Wednesday night per our cover count, so I will speak to the manager on duty that night about possibly adding staffing! Thank you for your feedback!
Great location and the restaurant has great ambiance, cool looking.
Food was really good.
The bottle of wine we ordered is usually a $12 bottle in store. It was marked up to $40 !! A little overpriced
The cocktails were really good
Food is OK and service was mediocre. Ordered an Andian Spritz and got a regular Aperol Spritz and the server tried to convinced us that it was the correct drink.
Great service, food, and atmosphere! Definitely want to come back to try dinner options.
Love La Brasa. It's great to just get apps or larger plates. Great flavors in the food. We had the stuffed sweet potato, always a fav. Fried chicken wings and tacos carnitas were excellent as well.
Wonderful experience!!! Everything from the service to the food and atmosphere was perfect. I will absolutely be returning!!
Hi KellyK, thank you so much for joining us on Mother's Day! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
I love bringing people to La Brasa whether for dinner or drinks. The staff is welcoming and offers great suggestions. The food is always excellent and the vibe is upbeat without overpowering
Hi Travelerham, Thank you for visiting us on Mother's Day and for your lovely review. We hope to see you again soon!
Nice place loved the food and drink would go again and tell anyone I know to go
Thank you so much JenniferC! Word of mouth recommendations are so important to our business, and we very much appreciate your kind review!
Can you see why I didn't get points for this? we all arrived and on time for this reservation thanks!
Absolutely delicious, but $3 a wing is ridiculous. And they weren't nearly as large as we were lead to believe. Otherwise though, everything was great.
Service was excellent. Creative cocktails and dishes
Every dish here is always out of this world good. I've never eaten anything that wasn't incredible.
Great food and service, but I did leave smelling like food exhaust.
Loved it once again! Brussel sprouts and fried rice were superb, as was the chicken. Margarita with salted rim was perfect. Noise level was initially too high - difficult to hear conversation at table, but we requested they turn it down. Much better. Looking forward to returning!
Delicious food. Very spacious yet somehow still cozy. My only knock is that the prices for the canned beer selection are pretty high :(
This was great place. Food was yum but quantity of the food served was too too low. As low as my entire team (party of 7), literally ordered 1 appetizer and 2 entree. Came out very expensive in the end.
Easter Dinner was fabulous. In early so no issues waiting or parking., Many parent and millennial children. Why? Cool, hip environment ( all throwback 80s rock and roll music), in town vibe, but on the pricier side of dining out in Somerville.
Worth every penny.
Brilliant menu and service. Wonderful, memorable gathering over great food
I enjoyed our meal a lot. They have added a section of the menu to include full entrees with sides. My bronzini was very flavorful whole fish, deboned, with a pepper sauce, limes, avocado and tortillas . Mexican rice was delicious.
On Wednesday, April 17th myself and 2 friends went to La Brasa to take advantage of their date night menu. We were possibly expecting a 4th but were there mainly for the cocktails. We had a few questions about cocktails and the server admitted that she was new—she answered all our questions and the cocktails were great as usual. We let our server know that the three of us would like to share the date night special—we’ve done this many times before without any issues. Due to allergies (2 of us) we asked for dairy on the side. The first course was sweet potatoes, and we were pleasantly surprised to see 4 small potatoes—2 with dairy on the side (normally you get 2 very large sweet potatoes). We figured our server had taken the initiative to divide the portions, which we were extremely appreciative. The food was excellent, the drinks were amazing, but in the end we were charged with 2 date night specials. That’s not what we asked for, nor did our server make it clear that she was charging us. We merely wanted to snack while we enjoyed company and cocktails. At the end of the night we received a bill for $225.00 which would have been fine, if that’s what we had requested. We paid the bill. Left a 20%+ tip and left disappointed in the service. IF we go back we won’t assume anything.
Hi aicinar, I'm very sorry you were disappointed with your service. I agree, the amount you were being charged for should have been discussed. I would be happy to send you a gift certificate for the amount of one date night if you would send me your email address. I can be reached at katelyn@labrasasomerville or 617-764-1412. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon
Prompt, professional service. Food fresh & flavorful. Will definitely return.
Overall nice, but the completely open, industrial ceiling aesthetic is always too loud. Everything else was great!
The food was amazing! We got the branzino, bread with ricotta and shishito peppers, and brussel sprouts, and they all were fantastic. Their cocktail menu was incredibly fun.
Charlotte, our server could have been more pleasant. All else was great.
La Brassa has become a go to staple for us. They’re food is great, and the service is exceptional. All the servers we’ve had are very friendly. I would recommend La Brasa to anyone.
The creativity behind these dishes is amazing! Our friends were so impressed with the experience!
