Italian
La Bottega has been a mainstay for both locals and tourists alike since 1997. Having started as a sandwich and deli operation, La Bottega has grown into one of the top destinations for dining in the Vail Valley. La Bottega offers authentic Italian cuisine with the Chef Stephen Virion having worked in Tuscany and the Veneto regions of Italy. His wife, Elisabetta, is from Asiago, Italy and has crafted the wine list to compliment the cuisine. La Bottega's Wine Bar is a great place for apres ski or to just have a glass of wine with friends from our award winning wine list. Of course our famous sandwiches and our stone oven pizzas are still a big draw. At La Bottega there is something for everyone so as to make your dining experience enjoyable.

In past years we have had good experiences here, but this year our food was lackluster and the noise level was high. I had the porcini ravioli in sage sauce, but couldn’t taste either mushroom or sage. Three others had linguini with clams and found the entree bland, with limited seasoning. On the plus side, the beet salad was delicious but, sadly, we won’t be back.

The food was just ok. Not great for the price.
The waiter provided good service, but the people in the kitchen had really loud music without caring for the customers. Maybe the manager was out watching the super bowl but nobody form the staff seemed to care to keep the ambiance the way it is supposed to.

Bad experience.

We come to La Bottega every year. Greeted abruptly because we came 10 minutes early. Restaurant is packed to the max and noisy. When seated at 6:30, and finally ordering by 6:45, we were told they were already out of the dishes we came to eat, duck and rabbit. We also ordered an antipasto salad as an appetizer, which in past years was almost a meal in itself, with an assortment of meats, cheeses and peppers. It came on a small plate with only one kind of meat and cheese and was not cut up. I ordered their lemon sole, which came mushy and almost tasteless. My friend ordered a Burrata which was described as coming with smoked duck. We saw someone else with the dish and it was plentiful and beautifully presented. The Burrata my friend received was a mess, with hardly any smoked duck. My husband’s spaghetti was mediocre at best. To top everything off, a server dropped a plate next to me, and the fragments of the plate sprayed all over me. I was not hurt, fortunately. We were very disappointed with our experience this year. Not sure if we will try again.

Our table was located near the door and since the door opened frequently, most of our party was uncomfortably cold. We waited 45 minutes for our first round of appetizers. We ordered calamari/shrimp, and octopus, both were good. Dinners included spaghetti and gluten free meatballs, which were only ok, pizza which had a undercooked crust, gnocchi with bolognese which was good, and a chicken pasta and artichoke dish which was enjoyed. There seemed to be a disconnect between the kitchen and the servers causing a delay in service. Some of the dishes were only warm while others were hot. The dinner was ok but for the price paid, I would have expected better. There are better places to eat.

The host at this restaurant was terrible we had a 8:00 reservation. 4 tables emptied out while when walked in . He was rude & kept insisting our table wasn't ready, the party there was lingering. We stared at the empty tables and wondered. Finally a waiter ( at 8:20 ) asked if we were waiting and we scowled YES. He sat us at one of the empty tables. The host was annoyed. Very poor customer service. But..... our waiter was great , service was good and food was great.

The service was very rushed and rough. Food and drinks just thrown on the table. Pizza was bland. Veal milanese was very over fried and like leather. The knife could not even cut through the meat. The spinach was bitter. Very disappointed and a very expensive mistake.

I'm a bit conflicted about this one. The food was good. But the kind of dishes we ordered should have been exceptional, not just good. I'll give you an example. I saw a picture in a magazine called "Eat," which depicted a plate of homemade pasta with white truffle shavings: looked great, so we ordered it as an appetizer. The pasta was, indeed, good. But the 2 oz. of white truffle ($70) was already on it when served. Shaving the fresh truffle on the dish is part of the fanfare and got me wondering if the truffle they used was actually fresh, actually white, etc.

Then I ordered a kobe beef steak with black truffle and same thing: the truffle pieces were tiny and already on the steak. The steak was good, but at $60 I expected something a little more succulent, fatty, rich, etc. My wife ordered the ravioli and it was good, but that distinctive, strong aroma of truffle was, to be honest, mild at best.

At the end of the meal, I couldn't help but feel a bit ripped off. If you are going to have a special truffle-themed menu, it needs to be far more decadent than what we experienced.

I DO recommend La Bottega, because some of the other items on the menu looked (and probably are) delicious. But I would NOT recommend the truffle-themed menu.

I actually really like this trattoria style place. Sat too near pizza oven, very hot. My pasta was stuck together at the ends and was undercooked but sauce was delicious. Noisy but fun atmosphere if you are in the main rooms. Upstairs very different quiet vibe.

Delicious Italian with gluten free pasta option. Wood fired pizza, delicious bread, great wine list, bar level dining overlooking the kitchen. Downstairs has more ambiance than upstairs. Upstairs is more quiet. Have dined there three times over three years. Consistently great.

We have been to La Bottega many times in the past and we have always enjoyed a nice meal. Our experience this time was average at best. We were seated near the pizza oven at a table that had to be completely turned so we could actually sit down (there was a brick wall partially blocking my side of the table). We ordered a salad that was okay, the truffle gnocchi which was good and my husband ordered the beef tenderloin. The beef did not come as it was described on the menu and the dish itself was under-seasoned and the potatoes were so hard that they were inedible. We will not be going back anytime soon. :(

If I only have time for one meal in Vail it’s La Bottega. I love the gnocchi in white truffle cream sauce. The tiramisu is the best I’ve ever had. The family loved their meals as well.

The gentleman greeting and seating was curt and rude. Service was all about turning tables with no personal connection. Food was cold , pizza was soggy. Wine prices were ridiculously expensive. No one cared.

We are at 7 different fine dining places in Vail on this trip... La Bottega has the absolute highest wine prices in Vail! Compare to any other restaurant and you will confirm. A true disappointment and typical approach to taking advantage of customers at peak season.
