la boite en bois is a small charming place. crowded with little elbow room, yet the atmosphere is cozy and convivial. food is very tasty - the leeks, trout, ravioli and shrimp were all excellent and enjoyed by our group..prix fixed was an added pleasure.

One of many visits to this restaurant; excellent food and wine, friendly service; the only drawback is that diners are packed into a small space like sardines so if you mind only a few inches between tables, this isn't the place for you. Can't be beat for hearty French food before a Lincoln Center event.

Although I've walked by this restaurant for almost thirty years, this was my first visit. Boîte en Bois is an old fashioned french restaurant. I used to visit this sort of restaurant fairly frequently when I first moved to NYC more years ago than I like to admit. There were many old fashioned french restaurants back then. Some were good, some were only eh but all were very comfortable and comforting. For the most part these restaurants have disappeared. But Boîte en Bois chugs along. It is easy to see why. The food is very good for this type of restaurant. I was here for brunch. The omelet was lovely, light and creamy. It came with some rosti potatoes and a little salad (good tomatoes and nicely dressed). I look forward to trying some more things on the menu in future visits.

The restaurant is old but very authentic. Perhaps it could use a face lift but then again I would worry about losing the ambience.

Boite en Bois is quite close to Lincoln Center so a good choice pre-theater.

This is a place I find very comforting. I'm looking forward to another visit.

Fine food. Fine wine. Fine service. Near Lincoln Center. Offer fine prix-fixe, pre-theater menu, plus fine specials. Staff strives to provide attentive service. Real pros. Can't go wrong before or after the opera.

I had seen this restaurant many times when I was in the area. It is only a few blocks from Lincoln Center. This time I decided to try it. I made a good choice. The food was excellent as was the service. Well worth it if you have a performance at Lincoln Center.

Our second New Year’s Eve dinner and it was a fabulous way to begin the new year in a restaurant where we go with friends and our family throughout the year. Excellent menu, food, service and ambiance.

Good restaurant near Lincoln Center. This was the third time we have been there on New Year's Eve before a concert. Because of the date, prices are much higher than regular prix-fixe menu. Our appetizers were excellent (escargots and crab cake). Main courses (lamb chops and duck) were good but not extraordinary. Dessert plate was very good. We had a half-bottle of Chateau Neuf de Pape and it was excellent.
Restaurant is small and tables are very close together.
There were some NYE decorations on the tables but I remember it seeming more festive in past years.

Pre-opera dinner. One of us was an hour late and the staff were very understanding. We opted to go late to the opera and enjoy our dessert. Lovely food and very nice staff and service.

A good place to visit for lunch or dinner, particularly paired with a Lincoln Center visit or other main event. Menu and wine list are limited but good options are there, we enjoyed the endive salad, sausage and lentil appetizers. Lamb stew was tasty, though not the usual stew with broth; salmon was done according to request. The small space did not seem overcrowded, tables had just enough space between them to allow conversation.

For over 30 years, our favorite Lincoln Center area French restaurant - cozy, crowded, somewhat noisy and reminiscent of a Paris café. We go there for annivesaries, birthdays, Xmas Eve and Valentine's Day as well as other days. Food and service always very good.

As always the food was very good. The service this Saturday however was somewhat spotty, detracting from the overall enjoyment. A bit cramped but overall a nice choice for some authentic, down to earth French food. Great location just a couple blocks from Lincoln Center.

Dining here leaves one feeling very well cared for, and reliably well fed. It’s one of the very few places where you can enjoy a well-prepared French meal and maintain a conversation at the same time for a reasonable price. Staff are incredibly considerate and helpful, and they make a terrific vodka martini!

Probably not the best place to celebrate an elderly friend’s birthday. Access is extremely difficult with three small flights of stairs. Service was patchy. I think a place to visit at night with a romantic ambiance.
The food was good however and our friends really enjoyed it.

The food as always was superb , the service attentive but not rushed. Friendly informative staff , it is one of our favorites and has been for years, while small and at times crowded the food is well worth it. Great for any event at Lincoln Center. We go at least at least once very 4-5 week’s.

My wife and I had a Sunday Brunch before a 5 PM concert at Tully Hall. The food was excellent, the service very attentive without being overbearing, the wine list small but certainly servicable (perfect for a brunch). I would recommend Boit en Bois extremely highly for a great meal before a concert.

I enjoyed the escargot, despite too much greenery. Had the shrimp & scallops for a main which was delicious. Nice bottle of wine. My date had the oysters which were well chilled and delicious
Her duck was dry and disappointing. The waiter not attentive.

The prix fixe is $55, which is misleading because several basic dishes (duck, scallops) are $5 extra. For that you get
- cramped, noisy dining room
- wine spilt when serving
- stale bread. When asked for fresh, told it would be coming out of the oven shortly. After several repeated requests, we were served more stale bread, warmed up
- small portions
- all the food is pre-prepared, nothing freshly made. Veal special had obviously been sitting in its gelatinous sauce for hours. The zucchini were very soggy and inedibly salty. The mashed potato would have been embarrassing at a roadside diner.. Chocolate mousse reminded me of supermarket take out.
Next time near Lincoln Center I am going to Il Violino, across the street - cheaper and better.

Have been here several times; I recall liking it although my wife never really did. Aside from the moderate noise level and crowding, this time - and I seem to now recall last time - too much and too heavy a sauce. I had trout almondine and the sauce was more like a gravy, rather than a thin light buttery sauce. My wife's lamb chop/filet combo also had a great deal of heavy sauce. FYI, although we didn't use the Prix fixe dinner, most combos can be ordered for less than the fixed price - in fact, only choosing the most expensive item in each category makes the price fixed dinner a deal. Service was very slow, but we didn't mind; it was reasonably attentive for water, etc. Just slow to take orders and to get served after ordering.

My lamb chops came medium rare, I ordered medium, they didn’t offer to either correct, replace, credit. We clearly didn’t touch most of our food, but no one asked if we enjoyed, if there was a problem, also didn’t know that we didn’t have to order the Pre Theater Fixe dinner, would have preferred the regular dinner menu, people sitting next to us asked for different menus, we asked if we could order from the other side of the menu, Lunch, but was told no, never offered a dinner menu

As famous for its cramped, cheek-by-jowl tables as for its distinguished cuisine, this is a splendid place for dinner near Lincoln Center—either long before or well after a performance. It is comfortable and elegant when not busy, but otherwise everything is crowded and the waiters are rushed. At the end of our meal, but not before, the waiter asked, “How was everything? Good?” and then rushed away as I started to reply. Had he waited two seconds, he would have heard me tell him that the duck skin was nicely crispy but the meat slightly over cooked and stringy, that the salmon was nicely glazed but slightly over cooked and dry, and that....Oh, never mind.

I expected good food at reasonable prices. The restaurant had only my party and one other. The staff folded napkins and had a loud, animated conversation right next to my table. I was hoping for a nice birthday celebration and all I wanted to do was eat and run. I do not recommend this place.
