This is my favorite place to dine in NYC---yes really. And I have been to Per Se (which is awesome). The staff here is alway professional and food is always great. I've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. O
Great early dinner. Salad was so fresh. Shrimp and scallop entree was delicious. Looking forward to my next visit.
Forgetful waitstaff - menus, bread, water, ordering, check - all requested twice.
I consider this restaurant one of my favorites in NYC. The menu has many choices, but the leeks appetizer, and the shrimp & scallops in a ginger based sauce are great. Cocktails are full sized. And the service is always right on.
To describe la Boite en Bois one needs only one word: Consistency.
Great food, great service and great ambiance every time . Excellent wine list too.
Must make a reservation.
My family and I have been coming here for years. The food has remained consistently good. It is old-fashioned French food that is very well prepared. I usually get liver (yes, I’m over 60 years old) and my husband likes the roast duck. The hazelnut mousse is the absolutely best dessert
I’ve ever had. The service is wonderful in this unpretentious gem of a restaurant.
Friendly, intimate, excellent food and attentive wait staff. You'll feel like you've found a well-kept secret that only the locals know.
Excellent experience -- food, service, ambiance. Best meal in a long time
Amazing Valentine's Day dinner.
This restaurant is a gem unlike any other restaurant in New York. May it continue forever and ever!
Very tight Seating; not a relaxing experience.
Very small overall space and spacing, especially for a larger person (260ls; 6'2"). Perhaps one too many servers, though all were quick and quietly helpful.
Very efficient service.
My date had delicious salad and I a well-prepared crab cake, if not the finest chunky crabmeat ever had, it was good.
Then she had the excellent lamb chops w roast
My entree was an ever-so-slightly over-cooked half-duck (!) with great seasoning and cranberry chutney (nice!) and haricots
Generous portions served! Then, the dessert combo of creme brulee, bread pudding , mousse auchocolate, fresh fruit medley w sauce, and a dark
chocolate-dipped strawberry was lovely--especially the first two selections(those were perfect!--and I am not a dessert person!
Excellent Chateauneuf du Pape Demi for $34: worth every cent!
I would like to go back for a less-cramped dinner and perhaps more often for lunch.
This was Valentines Day 2018 at 5:45/ Pris fixe: $80 plus wine and coffee. (-a tad expensive except for direct proximity to Lincoln Center.
Overall rating: A- , due to crowded quarters ONLY.
Great Valentine's Day special menu. We'll go again next year.
Excellent Food. Excellent Service. A great quiet restaurant located minutes from Lincoln Center.
I’ve been going to this restaurant for a couple of years but my experience on Saturday evening really left a bad taste in my mouth, and I’m not talking about the food. I was walking into the restaurant when a woman at Coat check demanded I remove my coat - mind you, I have been there this winter and this is the first time I have ever been barked at and forced to give over my Coat. She rudely pointed to a sign (that must be new) stating all coats must be removed. Fine, except that the entry smelled like smoke - whether it was from the lady or outside is to be determined. Ironically, halfway into our meal two ladies Sat at a table near us and had both their coats. It was clear they knew the owners as they were quite chummy with the wait staff. Speaking of which, we had 3 different waiters throughout our meal who were clearly not in sync as they would come over and ask us multiple times if we were ready to order, do we need anything else and two of them brought a dessert menu at different times. It took unusually long to get out entrees and we received our entrees about 10 min apart and one of them was cold. perhaps it was a busy night but the waiters looked annoyed to even deal with us.
The dinner ended on a very sour note when we went to retrieve our coats. I was not expecting to check my Coat, I did not have singles on me to tip. My boyfriend was putting my Coat on when she rudely and sarcastically began to yell “Thank you” multiple times and “thank you SO much” to get a tip. To be frank, her obnoxious and low class behavior did not deserve a tip . You should also not expect a tip if people are being forced to check their coats. Yet it’s a double standard for the women who knew the owners? Poor management of things like this add up and make me question returning to your restaurant. It’s funny how the french have a bad rap for their behavior, yet I was treated much better in Paris than how I was at your restaurant.
A lovely neighborhood French Bistro with pretty decor, good food, and good service.
For the first time, I did not enjoy my entree. Two of ordered the duck. It was not the least bit crisp; the skin was soft and almost greasy. It was also lacking in flavor. We would have sent it back but we were with friends and did not want to spoil the evening.
The food is good. Don't go for a table for two unless it's a real dead time. All the tables for two are lined up with what is, at this price level, an unconscionably small space between them. If they're all full you'll have less privacy than you had at your high school cafeteria table. The tables for four are better.
Food was quite good and the service was as well. Being a small restaurant, they squeeze many tables into a limited space. When they are filled, it's very noisy.
Perfect in all respects. Our go to spot when we are in the area.
I have eaten here several times and have always enjoyed my dinner's there. It is a fine restaurant.
