Here at La Boheme you will find an elegant ambiance that will enrich your dining experience. We have beautiful private dining facilities for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries or business affairs with seating from 8 to 40. You can choose from a selection of five unique rooms. Have a party in the Wine Cellar, which is designed in oak and seats up to 18 people, or the Tango Salon, with its collection of tango photographs and open dance floor. We went for a birthday party with a group of 5 food lovers. The spot is older, so we expected the atmosphere to lack a modern essence, but it worked for them and in no way was dingy besides a very faint musty smell. The food was excellent, starters, entree’s and dessert. We had one issue with a steak being undercooked. The waitress was happy to take it back and in a short time brought an entirely new plate with the steak cooked how we liked it. I was skeptical when reading some of the reviews but La Boheme exceeded expectations, proving all those negative reviews wrong. As a group of fine dining connoisseur’s, we all agreed we will definitely be going back.
Tried Sunday brunch with friends from out of town and were pleasantly surprised- amazing croissants, lovely mains and decadent desserts. Located in historic Edmonton Highlands district with easy parking. Server couldn't do enough and threw in a tour of the building as an added bonus. Well worth the visit.
This is my first time at La Boheme and I enjoyed it. It was very quiet on a weekday but boasted an elegant atmosphere, like being in the Napoleon wing of the Louvre without the people. The waitress took advantage of the quiescence and became a hostess by chatting me up. Just so she doesn't forget the recommendations in our conversation, I recommended the boardwalk in Edmonton which contains: Tzin Wine and Tapas, Devine Wines, Sabor, Bundok, Blue Plate Diner, Cavern and La Creperie. I also mentioned my favorite was Red Ox Inn, and that Canteen, Range Road, Cibo Bistro, Corso 32 and Solstice were worth a try. She didn't know most of them and she recommended places I didn't know as well. That shows how diverse Edmonton's food taste is, or that we have nothing better to do when it's cold outside. Now to not give La Boheme a short shift, I was surprised at how good the beet salad was. The rack of lamb was excellent, and the Crème Brûlé delicious. I washed it down with a refreshing Beaujolais. This place has a lot of space like Sabor, and Characters, so it's great for groups and people travelling who want a bed and breakfast with excellent food.
This is one of those legendary restaurants that everyone in Edmonton has heard of forever but can be overlooked, tucked away as it is in Highlands. It was our first visit, and we'll make a point to go back. It was definitely a joy to dine there, with the kitchen turning out as fine a meal for our visit as ever. Even as they are about to launch some renovations to turn the lounge into a neighbourhood pub (smart idea I think), they are making excellent food. Shared Crevettes à l'ail - a bit more anise than I'd ask for but they do warn you on the menu, so have it if you love that flavour. Our main courses were Suprême de Volaille; a beautiful piece of chicken, crisply seared, melting-tender inside, and of course one of the luscious cream sauces that make French cuisine a joy. I had the cambozola version. My fiancé had catch of the day; cajun-style snapper, and enjoyed that too. It's funny to read a couple of comments about the decor. Most of the look is classic/antique. Not sure how antiques can look "old" but its exactly what I would hope for out of a restaurant with a classic French menu, and I'm relieved it hasn't been "updated" with some kind of hipster modernist aesthetic.
It has been several years since we've been here. We had our wedding reception here in 2008 and have only returned a few times. Service and food quality over the years has varied - so the 1,000 pt offering a day after Valentine's swayed us to dine again. The place still looks the same - like the rustic B&B it is. Service was friendly and efficient. Only a few other tables in the dining room - and maybe a couple in the lounge. We had the sauteed prawns in a garlic butter as our starter -- yum-mee! Nice fresh rolls for dipping up the excess sauce. My husband had the roast chicken dish which he said was really good -- ate it all up. I tried the elk steak. A bit tough in parts....and a big chunk of meat for me (took about half home). We also shared the creme brulee (a bit pricy for the size at $14) . Dinner for two including a half litre of house wine, tax and tip $150. Bring down the portion sizes and pricing and this could be a regular place for us.
This was our first visit to La Boheme and we arrived earlier than our reservation but were seated immediately because there was only one other couple there. The service was wonderful and attentive. The food was wonderfully prepared. Seasoned perfectly. I would recommend this restaurant in a heart beat with one caveat.
Because this is a small restaurant, I was expecting to be greeted with great smells coming from the kitchen. That wasn't the case. The dinning room smelled 'old and tired'. I know this is an old historical building but it's time to dust and refresh the carpets and drapery.
This is unquestionably the WORST rip-off restaurant in Edmonton ... STAY AWAY! We went for Sunday brunch, and the tiny patisserie and desert buffet was absolutely awful. A stingy, sad, depressing display of a few old, stale and deflated pastries thrown carelessly on some plates, old dried-out fruit from the cut fruit trays at Costco, and a selection of Costco desserts, still on their Costco trays. The entrees were even worse -- a bland, unseasoned and chewy steak with a rubber egg thrown on top (the server did not ask how we wanted the steak, and the egg came easy-over despite asking for it sunny side up) and my chicken in cream sauce was sour, clumpy, and revoltingly unpleasant, as if it has been placed in a salad cream based dressing. However, just into the entrees, the server asked how everything was. I responded "Do you REALLY want to know, or are you asking to be polite?" (I was ready to just pay after I finished and leave, never to return again). The server persisted and said the kitchen "really wanted out feedback". We told our server in polite and quiet tones that the meal was "overall disappointing". When pressed for details, we outlined many (not even most) of them. A few minutes later an irate middle-aged woman (the owner, chef or manager perhaps?) came out of the kitchen, clearly looking for an argument, to fight with us saying "we didn't know good food and that we should get out immediately"! I told her we were only giving our honest feedback after their server pressed us for details. "Get out now, or I'll have my staff in the kitchen throw you out!" We were aghast ... In over 50 years of restaurant dining, I had never encountered such an unbalanced and shocking display of unprofessional behaviour from a restaurant. The lady in question seemed to lose it completely -- I can only speculate that she is close to a nervous breakdown. Perhaps the fact that the place was almost deserted for Sunday brunch at noon indicates the business is failing.
My wife and I went here for our anniversary on a mid week evening. We were the only
couple in the restaurant. The service was good and so was the food. We were surprised
by the menu as it was different than on their website. Several items to choose from.
Both our meals were excellent. We will certainly return for another visit.
None of the dishes stood out to me. The pasta was super bland and the crepe uses pickled artichokes and the lamb wasn't cooked very well. The restaurant wasnt busy at all for a Saturday night. It needs a major cleaning as I have bad allergies to dust and such and u was stuffed up immediately sitting down. Not sure I'd very go back again
We felt very special and the service that Jenny provided was excellent. There was nothing in the menu that my 4 year old granddaughter could eat, but they made something special for her that she wanted. Service was quick and the food was great...lots of choices. Great guitar music while dining.
We have visited LaBoheme many times over the last 25 years. We went often when we were dating, celebrated traditional milestones and have rarely been disappointed. It is amazing that a restaurant with a long history has stood the test of time and can still be consistently lovely dining experience. A taste of France without having to take an international flight-Love it!!!

I myself and my daughter ordered bouchee a la reine, chicken and mushroom in a creamy white wine sauce on top of a puff pastry shell.
When we got the food, it was not as expected. The sauce was as thin as water, oppose to a creamy somewhat thick sauce (visualize chicken potpie consistency)
When we told the waitress, she offered to bring something else, and we both changed our dish for something else.
After the meal the "chef" comes out and asked if the steak was good, i said yes. Then she goes on to say that the there is nowhere written that the sauce is bechamel consistency, when i tell her i'm from Europe and have been plenty to France, and that the sauce is not suppose to be like water. She walks away, pokes her head from behind the wall and asked me if i was a chef?? Then continues walking.
NEVER in my life in any restaurant have I've gotten any of this kind of attitude. To top it all of this lady the "chef" is the actual owner!!! Needless to say she is not French....and neither is her food.
Way to go in ruining a nice mother's day brunch
Valentines Day dinner was a hit. We were very impressed with the staff, food, drinks and ambiance. A special spot that comes with amazing history and personality. The food is over the top fabulous and well worth the money. We will return to this location. Great for Romantic lovers.
Although we ordered only two courses, our dinner lasted two and a half hours. Service was spotty. Our server disappeared for long intervals of time. If they were short staffed, they should have let us know and, perhaps apologized. It was a busy night, but, even so, we felt semi-abandoned and were pretty sure that our table neighbours had a similar experience.
What should have been a delightful 77 birthday for my mother in law was a gong show. At no time was I ever informed we were going to be set up in the Wine Cellar. (This may sound romantic to some, but with 2 seniors in our party, the lack of heat and the pitch of the stairs was problematic.) Let me just say, this area has no source of heat and was extremely cold. The fake fireplace in the corner does not add to the ambiance nor to the overall temperature.
Our inexperienced server provided us with a wine list and asked if anyone wanted a cocktail. She quickly took the drink orders and disappeared for 25 minutes. Several other situations occurred regarding the lack of an updated wine list and getting the wrong wine. It took over 40 minutes to finally get menus. This waiting was the fate of our evening. Our server was flustered after the cork broke (she was not seen again and was replaced by another staff member). Our new server apologized for the wait and explained the kitchen was short staffed and working with only one cook. She took our orders and indicated she would send some bread down while we waited for our appetizers. I went upstairs to request more bread about an hour and 15 into our reservation as no one came to check on us at all. We waited over 1.5 hours to get appetizers and 2.5 hours for the main course. We ate the food and were preparing to leave when our server inquired if we'd like dessert & coffee, to which my husband replied, "no thanks, we've been here 3 hours and we want our bill." She brought our bill and one complimentary slice cheesecake with a candle. Quite frankly, she should have brought everyone at the table a piece. Here's the kicker, it's La Boheme's custom to automatically charge 18% for parties of 8 or more for service, we felt abandoned in the basement. I voiced our concerns to our server, who again, apologized. She said she would inform management and I have yet to hear from anyone as to our horrific experience.
The food and ambience was great. Price was not too bad considering what you get. The server was the only issue as she messed up my order and couldn't remember what we wanted a couple of times. That being said she still checked on us often and was happy to fix her mistakes. Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
My wife and I had Sunday brunch at La Boheme. The food was fine overall, but had some odd features. Potato chips and a salad come with all brunch entrees, so made for an unusual combination with salmon in puff pastry. The desserts were quite nice. The dining room felt pretty dated and a bit on the shabby side. Our server was inexperienced but attentive. Brunch for two, with dessert and coffees, came to ~$60 which I felt was reasonable. Overall, however, I am not entirely certain that I would recommend it to someone.
We ordered a fairly expensive bottle of wine, and we were asked if we wanted it decanted. We did, A while later we received the wine in a decanter with no bottle. We asked to see the bottle and it appeared the waitress was insulted by our request. A full 15 minutes later we asked another waitress for the bottle . It finally showed up and it was the same as we ordered,
My advice to you for this restaurant? Dont ask for decanted wine, ask them open it at the table just as every other restaurant does. They can decant it at the table.
This incident completely spoiled the evening, They were insulted, we felt embarrassed, I cant even tell you about the food, we were so preoccupied with the wine.
My feincee and I went to LE Boheme for valentines day and what an experiance. They had a wonderful meal planned for this occasion, soup, petiet entre, entre, dessert, all starting off with a glass of champane with cinnimon hearts (better tasting than I was expecting as I am not a fan of cinnimon hearts). The service was attentive but providing privacy at the same time.
Went here for Sunday brunch with Family. Our waitress was not the most pleasant person, showed attitude and argued over stupid stuff like how many glasses of water we wanted filled for our table and expected guests. Brunch went downhill from there. Food was disappointing. The only truly good things were the croissants and the Mimosas:)
