About La Bodega - Leawood
"Tapas" - In the beginning. Tapas is a daily event in the life of the Spanish culture. Mainly a Northern Spain, Basque regional tradition, it has grown to signify a way of eating and socializing. It is said that tapas originated centuries ago. In Spanish, the word tapa or the verb tapar means "to cover." Tapas represents the Spanish custom of placing a piece of bread over the glass of wine. It is a custom that dates back past the 1500's. Traditionally, the exact food served is less important than the social occasion. Tapas is a way of life. It signifies leisure, camaraderie and good humor. In Spain, Tapas are almost always accompanied by wine. They are not so much about talking as they are about eating and drinking. The wine is the medium that holds the conversation with friends and the food together. You make time to enjoy the moment in an unhurried way. The threefold purpose of snacking on tapas is to dull any hunger pangs that have built up since the previous intake of comestibles.

La Bodega - Leawood Ratings and Reviews
The food was amazingly good. The Calamari and Chorizo (hot tapas) was my favorite. The refried potatoes were a close second. If I were to only base the review on the food it would be a 5 star rating. However, the waitress we had was horrible. It took 15 minutes to get my drink and 25 minutes for my husband. It then took a long time for the waitress to take our food order which was well after the customers beside us (who came in 15 minutes after us) got their drink orders as well as food orders taken. While the atmosphere itself was nice it was in my opinion too loud.
Had a nice time, but with a reservation we had to sit at a higher table. This was difficult for me as I am recovering from a back injury, so made for a less than enjoyable time. I have been coming to La Bodega for years, but formerly to your SW Boulevard location. Next time I will specify a regular table. I don't think people get the relax they need from the higher tables.
Delicious, creative Spanish tapas. Great service. Easy parking. The only complaint I have is that the bread (for the table as well as incorporated into the dishes) is not very good. It tasted a bit stale. I am used to tapas restaurants having fantastic grilled bread.
I loved everything about the restaurant! From the moment my friends and I walked in until we had dessert, it was amazing! The food was fresh and the tapas are the best! I tried dishes that I normally would not have tried! Excellent experience and I'm recommending the restaurant to all my friends!
Seafood Paella was ordered as last of 10 items, the first 9 all had good flavor, prepared well and the kids ate them up as well. the Paella, eaxh member of the family took and portion, the kids did not finish there 1st spoon full, my wife and I had a few fork fulls to taste and then left it. it was bland and flavorless, inadequate seafood, rice was not cooked properly. dissapointing.
First time @ LaBodega on a Friday night. Great service, delicious Spanish wines, fun place. All 4 of us got different food & it was all delicious. I got seafood paella-fabulous & enough to bring home for lunch the next day. Everyone else had tapas & all were yummy. We’ll go back for sure.
Sunday evening drinking, dining and listening to a wonderful musical group play music and sing Spanish songs at La Bodega made a birthday supper a celebration. My friend and I felt as though we were on vacation. I loved the food, the music, the open air and outside patios, the service. What a wonderful place!
The service was great. Our waitress was attentive. Food, while usually great, was just good this time. Don't know for sure what it was about it or why it didn't dazzle me this time around. Still had fun. Great place to get together with friends. Great ambiance and noise level is great because we aren't usually very quiet. Still recommend this place.
LaBodega is a good option for a quick and tasty dinner. There are many authentic small plates(platas). Cocktails are well made with quality liquors. Service is a bit spotty. At times you may have a very attentive staff. Other times (especially if a large party is in house) service is slower. My biggest issue is that often menu items are not available. I like to pick 3 dishes to complement each other. When one isn't available, I usually start over.
We went at the last minute for a nice meal and weren't disappointed. The sangria was excellent as always (they even shared their recipe with me). The food was excellent and the service very nice. This could be my go to place for out town of guests. The noise level was a little above my preference, but we still could talk to each other.
La Bodega is one of our standbys if we want to be sure we have a good time and a good meal. We chose the patio because we were in the mood for a quieter meal than we would have had inside on a festive Saturday night. We were able to watch a fantastic lightning display as we finished our meal. Server and other staff were all thoughtful and food was as delicious as always. Thanks for being there, La Bodega!
This occasion was a Thursday happy hour meeting of friends. The restaurant offered 1/2 off a wide selection of their most popular small plate offerings and $5 per glass of some very acceptable red and white wines. We left having had our fill of food and a couple glasses of wine each with only $45 per couple as the tab. Best of all we left feeling the money was truly well spent.
Took daughter and grandson there for dinner to provide culinary experience for grandson (13). Tapas were their usual quality and variety which allowed grandson to experience tastes not available at his usual eating establishments. Can't say he was energetic about trying some of the new tastes but there were several that he seemed to enjoy. The rest of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as usual.....especially the sangria.
