About La Bodega - Kansas City
"Tapas" - In the beginning. Tapas is a daily event in the life of the Spanish culture. Mainly a Northern Spain, Basque regional tradition, it has grown to signify a way of eating and socializing. It is said that tapas originated centuries ago. In Spanish, the word tapa or the verb tapar means "to cover." Tapas represents the Spanish custom of placing a piece of bread over the glass of wine. It is a custom that dates back past the 1500's. Traditionally, the exact food served is less important than the social occasion. Tapas is a way of life. It signifies leisure, camaraderie and good humor. In Spain, Tapas are almost always accompanied by wine. They are not so much about talking as they are about eating and drinking. The wine is the medium that holds the conversation with friends and the food together. You make time to enjoy the moment in an unhurried way. The threefold purpose of snacking on tapas is to dull any hunger pangs that have built up since the previous intake of comestibles.

La Bodega - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
One of my all time favorite spots. The tapas are always amazing and such a fun thing to share with the entire table. I always have each guest choose one hot and one cold tapa so there’s a big variety and plenty of dishes of many amazing flavors to try. The servers are always so friendly and the ambiance is bright and energetic. And the cocktails and sangria are delish!
Had my birthday dinner here which also ended up being a surprise engagement! The waitress helped my boyfriend (now fiance) and all the staff were very sweet!
The food was delicious and worth the price. I usually dislike Spanish food but this was amazing, totally blew me away!
This was a lot of fun! You get and share a bunch of tapas (hot and cold) with your table, so you get to try a lot of food, and you get full but don’t overeat. It’s a little pricey, but for special occasions it’s a good option. They have unique cocktails too, which are fun to try. I got the lavender gin and tonic - the Lavanda - and it was delicious. I’ve been here twice now and definitely recommend it!
We had a great visit! Happy hour was the perfect time to visit La Bodega. The food was perfect, we overed about 10-12 items. Only one item was a little overcooked when it came out. No big deal, they would've corrected had I asked. I htink what strikes me about La Bodega is how consistent they are, year after year. The food is always spot-on and I've never had poor service. On this particular night, our server, Kacia was fantastic. She was friendly, thorough, and a good sport for our lively table. Thanks for a wonderful visit!
Located under the I-35 highway bridge on Southwest Blvd in KC this place is a wonderful addition to the customary Mexican fare. Clearly a hip place, lots of folks young and old, vivid colors, and vibrant. Selection is broad with cold/warm tapas as well as entrees. Paellas can serve two. Wine list is extensive but leans on the bottle sales.
La Bodega just might be my favorite restaurant in all of KC. The tapas are unique, flavorful, and provide such a 'foodie' fun experience whether with one other or a group. If you enjoy the experience of food just as much as the taste, La Bodega is for you. I highly recommend pairing your tapas with a bottle of wine for a true Spanish experience.
My family loves this restaurant. The food is always delicious, and sometimes (like on Friday night), the service is spectacularly good. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and our server took great care of us. The garlicky papatas are fantastic, as are the bacon wrapped dates. It's hard to go wrong when ordering here. We'll be back for more on our next visit to KC.
Overall, great meal. Seating was a bit slow and initial response after being seated slow -- we got the impression that they were busier than expected mid-week and were perhaps understaffed. With that said, once attended to, our experience was excellent. The waitress gave us excellent advice including a half-price bottle of wine and a nice addition to black bean soup. Very enjoyable evening.
La Bodega is the perfect eclectic summer spot, with a cozy wrap-around outdoor dining porch perfect for an evening of sangria, tapas sampling, and luxurious mingling with friends. They offer an impressively extensive menu of authentic Spanish tapas, entrees, and desserts, and a drink menu that accommodates the dishes nicely.
Didn't have the best experience. With making the reservation, finding a comfortable table that didn't have the AC blowing down on you (it was freezing). Service was okay, the waiter seemed annoyed by us asking questions about the menu!! Food was pretty good.
Always enjoy the food here and the service always feels welcome. Other people come to the restaurant seem to enjoy drinks very much but we only come for the food, especially seafood paella and Flan for dessert. They got lots of gluten free options that are delicious, so it is a huge plus for us due to my husband's celiac condition. Their Spanish Coffee after meal is quite a entertainment for a happy ending!
We had reservations but I arrived about 45 minutes early so I waited at the bar. When my friend arrived she joined me at the bar and we had another drink. We enjoyed Casey so much we couldn't leave her. This is one of my most favorite places in KC but last night was the best experience I've had. Thank you all so much!
Good food, service was horrible. Tables crammed so close the table behind us kept bumping our chairs and waiters had to walk around the whole restaurant to get from one side of our table to the other. The five of us had to wave our arms to get the waiter's attention repeatedly. Ordered items were just forgotten, never to appear, we had to ask over and over for items we ordered. It's a real shame because the food was good (when we got it) but if you're having tapas and ordering lots of small plates for a group, you can't just have one or two show up and then the next plates take 45 more minutes.
Whenever I am in KC La Bodega is a must visit. I have been returning to La Bodega since they opened in 1998. I have never had a bad tapas, a bad time, or a bad pitcher of sangria!! Their paella is delish and the tapas are all authentic. My favorite is probably gambas a la plancha, but this past weekend I tried the MEJILLÓNES Y CHORIZO, and...I don't know, mussels>shrimp?
We went here for our wedding anniversary. It was fabulous. Wonderful service great food and good drinks. We sat outside and enjoy the beautiful evening and I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting great Spanish food. The picture is from their duck entrée.
