La Bocca Urban Kitchen and Wine Bar is a pizzeria located in the heart of Pheonix. For almost 10 years, La Bocca has been serving up the best in Mediterranean cuisine. This is not a standard pizza place; guests will find many flavor combinations on the menu. The bruschetta planks are a must-try appetizer, with 10 different varieties to choose from. One of the most unique options listed includes fresh ricotta with rosemary and honey, as well as gorgonzola topped with a pear, basil and balsamic reduction.
Under the entreeé section, the pizza is definitely the star of the show. Every one is loaded with all kinds of fresh ingredients, and with names like the Sicily, truffled mushroom and autumn garden, you can't go wrong. Guests are also welcome to build their own pizza out of any of La Bocca's incredible toppings.

What a pleasant surprise. We were in Tempe and the hotel we were staying at recommended La Bocca. The night prior we had visited one of the "finer" dinning establishments of Phoenix. The "finer" establishment should visit La Bocca to see how it should be done. The food and service were beyond reproach. I highly recommend La Bocca - you will not be disappointed. The next time we are in the area, La Bocca will be at the top of our list!
I took a group of 7 colleagues out for pizza and pasta on a Thursday night, though my Open Table reservation, they explained, would not offer us a guaranteed table since they work on a first-come-first-serve basis. We readily secured a table, and now I know why: The food arrived ice cold for everyone and the manager had denied repeated requests to close the front doors onto the patio, though the temperature was dipping into the 40s. The bolognese sauce was bizarre-overpowered by nutmeg or cinnamon. The whole experience, save some super tasty desserts, was a disappointment.
The food is great. I had the papardelli pasta. Others said the pizza was excellent as was the Med appetizer with olives and hummus and cheese. The breads were also notable. Excellent wine with happy hour prices. Excellent service for 5 of us, including my vegetarian niece.
Excellent food and great service! We were going to the Tempe Improv and we were on a tight schedule. Our server timed everything just right, and we had time to spare. If you like hand crafted pizza, pasta, and bruschetta this is your place!
First time a reservation through open table hasn't meant being seated as booked- 20+ minute wait. [ no apology for this either!]
They really don't honor reservations..you just go to the front of the walk in list. Not great if you want to be on time for Gammage. Staff seems harried and the food is nothing special. Try Postinos instead
We dined here prior to seeing If/Then at the Gammage Center. Location was perfect....walking distance to/ from hotel and venue. Eclectic, delicious menu....great wine and beverage offerings. We would definitely return!
Great location. A bit pricey for what you get, but a great atmosphere and great service!
The pizza was great! The cheese plate was not good at all. We were so crammed in with others and everyone was yelling to hear each other.
Loved this place!
I was in town for the holidays and needed a spot that was central enough for all my friends to meet up. La Bocca was the perfect spot! Tasty food, personable service (we sat at the end of the bar) and a perfect wine list made it a really great night!
Had a delicious lunch with friends at La Bocca - the truffle pizza and peach salad were outstanding! Sandwiches on focaccia were also a hit!
I've dined here 3 times primarily because of it's location --- close to ASU for pre football game dining or pre-theater dining --- but all 3 times, the service was very slow and just not up to par.
We had reservations on a busy night. ASU had homecoming and Ironman was in town. The manager saw that his wait staff was busy so he came over to check on us and take our order. We had a great table outside, had great service and enjoyed the food. Overall great experience.
We were sat and waited 30 min before anyone came to our table. We put in our drink and food order at the same time. However, our food came out before our drinks and we had to ask multiple times for our drinks after the food. Service was awful, food was good.
Made a reservation thru open table and when we arrived we were told they don't take reservations. I showed them my reservation confirmation on my open table app and they clicked thru a few times to a screen that said they don't take reservations. Huh???
They are on open table, I made the reservation, got a confirmation but they don't take them? OK well that makes sense :o They tried to accommodate us by putting us outside but it was cold and there were no heaters so we had they move an outdoor table inside which they did. We waited over a half hour for our food. Bruschetta app was delicious as were the salads but the lemon chicken was very dry and the soda that came out of a can was flat.
I made a reservation because I had show tickets and wanted to ensure I would have time to eat and get to my show. When I checked in I was told they don't take reservations and it may be up to an hour wait. Needless to say I was disappointed and frustrated, as I was totally misled that my reservation would be honored. I left and wnt something else. I would suggest removing this business from open table since they do not honor reservations made there.
we made reservations because we were celebrating a special anniversary and then going to a play. we were on time and were told they had given our table away due to so many walk ins on a play night. however we could sit outside. we tried but it was very cold and they had no heaters. we spoke to a manager and he said he could get us inside at a group table. we said no as we did not feel like celebrating our special day with strangers. I made a reservation for a reason-so we could have dinner and make the play on time. what is the point of a reservation if you are not going to reserve the tables and let walk ins take what is left, we should have been the priority not the walk ins. we went down the street, had a quick bite and made the play. will never go back due to the total lack of respect...there are plenty of great places to eat in this town and I can't be bothered with this disrespect for my time and my plans!
I don't live nearby, but La Bocca is where we like to go before seeing a show at ASU. The food was great, loved the Caesar salad and we had 2 of their pasta dishes which were also quite tasty. The restaurant quickly filled (we arrived a little after 5) so the energy was great. Our server was very nice and she gave a knowing nod of approval at our food and drink choices.
We'll be sure to go back when I'm next going to a show at ASU.
I had not been in about 11 months. Since being there menu items same but quality very poor. Had the planks. Burnt thin bread, Brie so small and thin it had holes. Quite sad. Wine good but wine carafe due to happy hour smaller size than norm or like smaller. Who knows????
Had two pizzas for two people and they were so good we ate them all!
Three of us enjoyed lunch at La Bocca Urban Pizzeria and Wine Bar- I enjoyed a chopped salad that had fresh ingredients and tasted very good as well. Also ordered was a hamburger which received rave reviews and Buffalo Bleu which was also excellent. The service was attentive and our waitress was helpful and friendly.
allowed 2 hours for leisurely meal before show and timing was great. service was wonderful and food, as always, was fabulous.
The restaurant itself if very nice and located right on Mill. I was excited seeing how busy and energetic the restaurant was. My date and I both ordered pasta dishes. They were bland and without any real flavor. Very disappointing.
Hip and cool atmosphere.
Slightly above average food.
Bad service. Reservation was not honored, food took forever to arrive, needed to be reminded several times about beer order, and our server seemed like he was in a frantic rush... he would be leaning into leaving our table the moment he'd ask us any question, like he really needed to go... just an overall poor experience... I wouldn't go again.
Ordered a lot of food including 5 bruschetta, Cesar salads, and 5 pizzas. The best was bocce trio. The porko had nonpork
Everything was great and the staff was accommodating and attentive. The wine specials were a great deal. I'm going back tomorrow!
I love good food, but have grown tired of restaurants that are a little too in love with themselves. Yes, we can put wilted shamrocks and platypus cheese on a pizza and it might taste great; just don't lose sight of those wonderful standards. They are called old favorites for a reason. La Bocca figured out how to make great pasta and they don't feel the need to hide it with a bunch of crazy ingredients. They serve it with a perfect alfredo and smoky proscuitto and it is fantastic. The pizza was spot on as well - they offer some of the more exotic pizzas (I'm not averse to exotic pizza either - the best pizza I have ever had was duck confit and balsamic cherries with gorgonzola and red wine sauce), but we got something with sausage and pepperoni and it was perfect. The crust was thin and crispy, just the right amount of sauce...AH! I just thought of the best way to describe simple foods done well - confidence. An insecure restaurant or chef will doctor everything up with wild ingredients and artsy descriptions. A restaurant that is secure in itself may have those options, but can pull the standard fare off with class.
We hadn't been to La Bocca for a long time but we're glad we went back! Just as good as we remember! And a great server, too!
The overall experience was good but the service was slow, the food was kinda one-note, and the table was too small for four.
I'd stick to the salads and appetizers. They were pretty good. We had the beet salad.
We had a pizza that was just okay. We had two of the lemon pasta with chicken that our dining partners said was bad and left a bad taste. I had a chopped salad which was okay but had too much dressing in it. The menu is very limited and would not return.
I've been here 3 times and have never had a bad meal. I highly reccomend this place because not only are the prices reasonable the food is outstanding and I heard the wine is some of the best in the Phoenix area. Definitely worth a try if you're into a nice atmosphere and good real food
The Bolognese was not very good. Hardly any sauce or meat in the sauce.
An OK place for groups. Food is good if you like different combinations of various toppings on your pizza. Sandwiches were ok, however the cheese plate was not worth the money. The servers were excellent.
We chose La Bocca in Tempe for lunch prior to going to a show at Gammage. We were a party of eight, and had reservations at opening time of 11. We were seated promptly, and received friendly and efficient service, no issues with separate checks or with the fact that some members of the party showed up later than others. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered - some hi lights included the bruschetta plank, especially the beet and smoked prosciutto selections, the chicken salad sandwich (not your ordinary chicken salad), the spicy pepperoni pizza, and the red sangria.
Really enjoyed it.
Great food at a great price
Loved the atmosphere
Great place to go with friends, and split two pizzas. They use top quality ingredients and its top notch!
Spectacular food and service! Highly recommend. We had a party of 14 and they were very accommodating. Service was awesome. Great wine list and best bruschetta i have ever had! Pizza has perfect crust and all ingredients are fresh, including the salads!
I love their pepperoni pizza and I have yet to try something bad here. It's reasonably priced and also have a great happy hour. Used to love going here after work with coworkers!
This place was amazing food was delicious, we arrived there between lunch and dinner and they allowed us to look at and order from both menus! We went there before going to gammage for a show and the waiter gave us the playbills for us to look at while we were waiting there was also an old movie playing in the background no sound just picture. Great feel to the restaurant great service and food was amazing!
