A great place to meet, talk, and enjoy a good French style Bistro. The food is very good; the wine selection small but quality, the desserts are special and very reasonably priced. I've been here before - for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have enjoyed it every time. Service is slow - but if you are looking for an unhurried and relaxed dining experience, it works just fine.
The bread is amazing. Rest of meal was disappointing. We ordered the steak au poive and it was tough to cut and even more difficult to chew. The fries were good and the sauce was good, just poor quality meat.
The food is always good here. And this time was no exception. The Bibb salad was outstanding. Really tasty. The steak au poivre was delicious and the scallops were seared to perfection. It's a good quiet place to have conversation and excellent food.
Good food, their brunch is way better than dinner. Service was very slow. Slow service would be the primary reason for not coming back for dinner.
Almost hate to praise this lovely neighborhood asset to the extent it deserves for fear of drawing in the masses of tourists passing by to or from The High Line. Simple, well prepared French bistro dishes. Pass the display of extraordinary pastries at your own peril.
Average food, very slow service. Not worth the money.
What a nice surprise! Great place with wonderful French standards. Plus desserts that could turn you obese if you lose control - but what a way to go.
La Bergamote is an unpretentious, comfortable, go-to place in Chelsea where I have gone several times to find consistently well prepared, reasonably priced, French cuisine. It is a combination of a café, patisserie, and restaurant – all very casual. The noise level is minimal.
The dinner menu is relatively small and believable: food is prepared to order. The waitstaff is energetic, caring, and knowledgeable. Three of us ordered separate items: short ribs in red wine where the meat was so tender it was practically falling off of the bone; coq au vin, prepared with the traditional bacon and pearl onions and served with whipped potatoes; duck breast which was perfectly seared and cooked to my preference: à point – pink so it resembled a steak. The meat was tender and flavorful. Portions were generous.
A sizable dessert display-case greets customers upon entering, making it impossible to resist items from their patisserie. I have sampled several items along the chocolate spectrum which have all been outstanding, high quality, nicely priced selections. There are also large cakes to go. It is possible to come to this restaurant simply for a coffee and a sweet.
I am so pleased at having this neighborhood restaurant nearby and can highly recommend giving it a try.
A simple place, with limited choices(except for desserts), with paper napkins and small, vastly overpriced wines even by NYC extortion rates: a delicious Cosme Cotes du Rhone 2117 not the 2016 the list said at $56, with tax and tip over $70 a nearly 500% markup. With these deficits out of the way, everyone was satisfied with all we ate. Pate starter was quite fine, an attractive generous offering. Hamburger was also delicious and the desserts tasty. $41 prix fixe, despite limited, boring choices a decent value.
Our favorite restaurant after a show at the Atlantic. The mussels are outstanding, with tasty baguettes. And the service couldn't be better. Best of all are the desserts, for which this restaurant is famous.
La Bergamote is a gem. We have dined there several times and always find it a delight.
Service is outstanding and food is delicious!
Went for Valentines Day and it was the only time that I have thought the prix fixe was worth it. They offered the regular menu (which I really appreciate on a “holiday”) but the prix fixe was too good to pass up. The food was wonderful and our server was very pleasant.
It’s a great neighborhood brunch spot and it’s not added to the list for dinner!
This cafe, and it was that. Not at all a restaurant though there was seating and table service. When you walk in it looks like a pastry shop. But if you see the rest of my reviews we do go out to higher end restaurants often and I am rarely pleased.
La Bergamote was FABULOUS. We had a yummy desset, fabulous string beans, the bread was good and the Beef Bourguignon was delicious and big enough for two.
This was one of the best meals we have had out. We sat at the window and made our own romance. Be warned, this is not a pretty place. But so good!!!
Lovely little French restaurant with solid delicious bistro food. Save room for the pastries.
We eat here a few times per month. We are very disappointed that we are no longer able to get the pate as a appetizer. Please make it available again.
Excellent food. And choice of delicious French pastries. Good place to go with friends. There is no problem sitting and spending time, and the noise level is low.
We were optimistic about this restaurant when we made the reservation. Things went sideways when we could not determine its location in the building where it occupies a corner spot. There were a few tables occupied when we arrived. Unlike other reviewers the service from upfront staff was friendly and solicitous.
The entrance contains a well designed patisserie with the range of baked goods that I am sure make this a neighborhood staple. Passing there one goes into a fairly sterile dining area that is typical of newer spaces in Chelsea (e.g. Cafeteria). Examing the wine list the expense of dinner for two dawned. Other restaurants in the area have a selection of $36-40 bottles. Not here.
We forged on and made our selections for mains. There were five at the most tables occupied now. We waited. Within fifteen minutes the place filled up with the 7 PM reservations. I had ordered coq au vin, not a dish I would expect might take half an hour. It did. It was oversalted. We ate half anyway. Disappointed we asked for our remains to go and left.
I am sure from the crowd this is a neighborhood favorite. Perhaps you will have a better experience.
The food was very tasty and the service was friendly and efficient. We were four people and had 3 different dishes, all were delicious. I have also been for lunch on the weekend.
This casual restaurant has the ambience of an authentic French bistro. It is both a café and a bistro. One can go there for a coffee and a pastry or for a complete dinner. The dinner menu is relatively small so that the meal is prepared to order. The food is expertly cooked and is presented in an appealing way. Portions are generous, and the prices are quite reasonable. This restaurant is a gem!
Wonderful French brunch! The egg dishes are excellent, and so are the croissants.
Location is nice; cozy and relaxing ambiance. Food is hearty; portion is perfect; isn’t too much or too little that you would get hungry within one hour.
Great little place...food for a little dinner before Atlantic Theatre production...little noisy however. Hard to see there’s a restaurant to the side of the patisserie but food is good and reasonable.
Very happy with excellent food quality, reasonably priced wines, very attentive service, and pleasant ambiance. More bistro-like than a formal restaurant. Most enthusiastic to recommend.
We've enjoyed this bistro for brunch and a light pre theater dinner. We'll be back again.
I love it here and eat here often for breakfast and lunch. I took an out of town friend for dinner and we ordered steaks. The service was appalling. They kept dropping glasses in the back and it took over ten minutes to get water and another ten to order. We ordered two soups and two strip steaks. Soup was okay (a lot of sugar in it) but the steaks were like shoe leather. Even with a steak knife, they were almost impossible to cut. Really one of the toughest steaks I’ve had in a long time. The sauce au poivre was also over salted. All that I could taste was salt. I’m not one to overly complain, but this was really an awful experience. We ended up leaving without eating the rest of the main course. The waitstaff was also really inattentive and unhelpful in general. Bad attitude, slow service, and poor quality food left me with a really bad impression. I’ll stick to ordering the sandwiches and omelettes in the day time, and that’s what they should stick too also.
Food was delicious.
Our waiter was not engaged in our experience. It took a long time to get any food- with no interaction from server. She was an order taker. When we got the food it was delicious. We had our son with us, we ordered sides for him from the regular menu. When we left we found a child’s menu near the register. I wonder why we weren’t told about this.
A group of friends meeting for a delicious meal, nice wine and wonderful dessert. The servers were delightful. What a wonderful evening and a great find.
The food was good. The portion size of the steak au poivre was smaller than I’d expected. The service could have been better. It seemed like fundamental things were variables — we didn’t really get menus when we were seated, but took some from an adjacent table and had to ask for each of us to have a menu, similarly with place settings. They were out of some wines. The food took longer than expected, circa 45 minutes, to arrive.
Great neighborhood place. Very cozy with delicious food and incredible bread and pastries.
nice restaurant. food okay service good
will b back
The food is Consistently good and the service was excellent!!!
The service was a bit abrupt. Someone was asking us if we were ready to order literally as soon as we sat down. Food was good, ambiance was not exceptional but if you like French food without pretentiousness you will be pleased.
Tasty food, pleasant ambiance, quiet environment and fantastic desserts! Desserts rock!
This is one of my favorite places in Chelsea. It feels like Paris. And the food is delicious.
This restaurant has a dual function: café and restaurant. It can provide dessert and coffee or a complete dinner. It is an unpretentious, comfortable space which has a relatively small menu where the food is executed well. I have been here several times and have always had personable service in a non-pressured environment. This place is a neighborhood gem!
I wish the ambiance we're on par with the food. Straight up, well prepared bistro fare. Very large portions for very good prices. Extremely attentive team. Little things like cheap paper napkins we're a let down.
Great neighborhood place
