A big brunch destination but I went on a weekday evening looking for a spot where old friends could talk and linger over a meal. A perfect spot for that. Very few other customers. The food was fresh and perfectly prepared. The waiter lowered the volume on the music at our request. If I have any concern it is that they might drop the evening hours for lack of business.

La Bergamote is right downstairs from the condo we rented for 3 nights, so we thought we'd try it for dinner when we were in a hurry to make it to a show. The food was mostly so so, but the french onion soup was yummy and the desserts, really good. The interior reminded me of a fast food place-not lots of ambience. The night was very cold and we had to keep our jackets on at dinner since it was chilly in the restaurant also. All in all, the restaurant could do better-main courses and ambience.

Nice place to stop for a meal and, most especially, the great desserts! The focus here is the bakery. The menu is limited but the food was very tasty. Well worth a visit.

Picked here as on the way to the theatre, Food & drink was fantastic - We shared a cheese board and quiche with Red & White wine. Only thing that let this place down was we was the only people there & staff didn't seem interested to serve us.

La Bergamote was a good find, a bit off the beaten path from the hectic Theater District, but close enough to get to the Theater quickly. The French cuisine was superb. I had the steak au poivre, perfectly cooked. My husband and friends were equally happy with their meals. Desserts were also excellent. The server was very kind, made changes in the sides we asked for, and recommended a very nice wine. The restaurant was very quiet at 5 p.m., but began to fill up at 6 o'clock. Nevertheless, it was quiet and thoroughly enjoyable.

La Bergamote Hell's Kitchen (not to be confused with La Bergamote further downtown) is a tucked away café-style eatery. You walk past a line of pastry cases on your way in--a clever reminder to leave room for dessert. It was quiet and low-key at dinner time, which was great for converstation between our party of six. Tables are very close to one another, though, so it probably gets noisy when the place is full. Our waiter was attentive, and the food was simple but tasty. The only drawback, for me, was that the tuna in my Niçoise salad was very overdone and dry. Otherwise, it was an overall pleasant experience.

Best cafe au lait we had in the city. Giant coffee mug was a great way to get the day started.

I have come to believe that bread is an excellent indicator for French Bistros. Their bread was excellent and overall the food was very good.

the Bergamote in Hell's Kitchen is a small cafe with lovely pastries and a nice breakfast. The food was good--I enjoyed an omelette, while friends enjoyed french toast and lunch items, like fruit and sandwiches. There are very few tables but we happened in there before visiting the Armory Art Show and we were delighted to find it fairly empty, so it was quiet and we were well served. A sweet and fairly inexpensive spot for a little bite. Servings were on the smalls side, but enjoyed.

Very nice restaurant in the less congested, way off Broadway area with many well prepared French bistro dishes such as French Onion soup and Coq au Vin, as well as more current fare. The stars of the show were the finely crafted French pastries, including the hard-to-find Concorde. An excellent choice for quiet conversation and pre-theater dinner.

A real find in expensive New York City. We had the 3 course prix fixe for $34!!!! Food was great and dessert was any item from the bakery case. So hard to choose since the case was filled with an array of delicious tortes and macaroons.

The service was amazing, attentive, and polite.
The food was amazingly delicious with great background music choices.
The noise was moderate, but that was a give due to the construction that was going on outside.
All in all, great place to dine at :)

Enjoyed the food and the staff. The place is a bakery and a restaurant so it's definitely different. The food is very good and the desserts even better. Staff greeted us in a welcoming manner and waiter was very attentive but not over bearing. Enjoyed my evening there.

This is a good place for friends to connect or reconnect. The place is small but it is cozy and intimate. As you enter, you'll see the pastry shelf and far left are the tables. This place is not for big parties - it is good for 2 to 4 friends. The croques are really good. We had asparagus soup, which was the soup of the day, and it was fresh and delicious, not too creamy. Service is friendly.

The place is a bakery cafe so it's surprising that there is a fairly high end menu. The food itself was not bad, just not great and pretty pricey for the portions. We thought that the dessert would make up for everything, but again, so-so. It's a good place to just grab a cup of tea, but not a fine dining experience.

Went to La Bergamote for thé first time with a friend and what a find! Our waiter was great and very discrete (I don't like waiters who hover every 2 minutes! ). The warm goat cheese salad was delicious and the desserts, oh my... it was so difficult to choose. I ended up with the chocolate hazelnut cake and I have no regrets!!

Charming, quiet, cozy and low key. The service was very good and welcoming. We did not take advantage of the wine list. Portions are more American style, but the taste is cuisine and delicious. Vast selection of desserts. Sunday evening our après theatre party of five had the place to ourselves. Worth the walk from B'way. Plenty of curbside parking on Sunday evening near La Bergamote. Moderately priced with à la carte choices and a choice prix fixe at $30.00. Also a take out menu. Closes early at 8:30PM on Sunday.

I enjoy going to Ensemble Studio Theatre and La Bergamote is my favorite place nearby. Although from the outside it looks like a bakery, and has a wonderful variety of beautiful pastries, I like going there for a pre show dinner. The food is really good and reliable and, in my experience, arrives promptly. The salmon served over ratatouille and asparagus is one of my favorite dishes, always perfectly cooked to my request, and I've also enjoyed the excellent coq au vin (traditionally cooked, with bones, as our server cautioned us when she took the order) and the various soups of the day. It's a great place to linger over a glass of wine or to enjoy post matinee coffee and dessert. There is a lovely patio with umbrellas in the summer.

I went for dinner on a Saturday night at 8pm and there was only two other diners eating dinner. After we paid the check, they closed even though I think they were technically open for longer. I think this place is more for pastries rather than dinner. It was also sad sitting outside across the street from Ardesia which had a much more vibrant scene.

I arrived at reservation time and the place was almost closed with all outdoor furniture inside and staff doing paperwork on the counter. Nobody came to check on us even to apologize.
We left and got a walk in on a restaurant near by.

We had dinner ( the chicken) and it was delicious. Beautifully prepared! One could get sandwiches and quiche etc as well so the menu serves all appetites. And just steps away from the wonderful Ensemble Studio Theatre, it is the perfect restaurant for pre or post show dinner ( or wine or coffee or....)

I was looking for a quiet place for a pre-theater meal with a friend--we wanted something quiet, close to the theater district with good food. We found it at La Bergamote--a serene alternative to the hectic pre-theater scene on 8th and 9th Aves. The service was prompt and friendly and the food excellent.
