We headed to the Sunday brunch for our anniversary. The Samoset has an amazing location on the shore of Penobscot Bay with a view that can't be beat. Summertime dining outside is as lovely as can be.
Unfortunately Sunday brunch is a buffet - a nice buffet - but a buffet. There was a large variety of good food, but nothing that I tasted struck me as excellent, except maybe the omelette prepared just for me with just what I wanted. Lots of people seemed to enjoy the prime rib and the desserts looked tasty. There was the usual breakfast selection, pasta and salad, at least two types of fish, smoked salmon, mussels and scallops and fruits, and likely more.
Service was very good and the waitress checked on us regularly. There were a number of larger parties and several families as well. It's not a place I'd return to for brunch (not a buffet fan) unless I was with a large group, but I do want to give it a try for dinner soon.
Excellent food and friendly staff. Service was a little slow. Need more people on a busy Saturday.
Overall we had a good time. The space is very large with bright lighting, could have been a bit more intimate. We had a hard time finding the restaurant once we entered the resort,we really didn't see any clear signs of where to enter or park. We went in one entrance and had to walk by a wedding . Service was fantastic,We weren't in a rush and told our server that, she paced the meal out perfectly.I had the veal parm, veal was too crispy and dry, had to ask for extra sauce. The past and sauce were both good. My daughter had the kale pasta with porcini i cream, that too was dry but tasty. We took a tiramisu home and that was good although very different than I've ever had, no ladyfingers but lots of whipped cream. Not the best but ok.Over all it was ok. Again our server was fantastic.
It's not really a great "Italian" place as it's billed as. Marginal food. Maybe it's because the off season?
The restaurant was very nice and the food was amazing! The servers could have been more professional, they seemed too casual at times.
We celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary this past weekend at the Samoset Resort and we couldn't have loved it more!! The whole entire experience was lovely.
Had dinner here to celebrate our 38th anniversary of our first date. The ambience was amazing. The service was outstanding. Some of the best food I have ever had and we eat out a lot! The calamari appetizer was light and crisp, with a little kick. The size of the entrees was perfect - not too large, not too small. The homemade chocolate gelato was rich and creamy. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone for a special evening.
A very nice experience. Although the restaurant was busy, our server was appropriately attentive, making our dining experience pleasurable. The food was excellent and nicely paced.
Food, as usual, was excellent. Service struggled. No offer of cocktails, bread was not offered and after a request, it arrived at the end of dinner. No offer of wine for dinner. However, server was very pleasant, just not at the level one would expect for a nice quality restaurant.
I am hopeful this was due to staff being busy, although there were several open tables. Will try again soon and hope for better.
We've had dinner here several times over the past year and always enjoyed it. And we often go with family and friends for their wonderful Sunday brunch. Oh, that lemon cake is heavenly!
We made dinner reservations for my wife's birthday last week and were looking forward to ordering our favorite menu items, poached lobster for her and the steak trio/duo for me. We were disappointed to find that they were not on the menu. I hope it was only because the menu is limited in winter and that we'll be able to enjoy them next time we go. We do love the atmosphere.
A very good restaurant and service. I am new to the area from Utah it would rival Deer Valley.
Very good food. Outstanding steak frites. Perfect meat and hot parmasean fries. My wife had ciopino, also very good. Our children were with us and good choices for them (including pizza.) Very expensive though.
Open Table description should say restaurant is in Samoset Resort. After absolutely delicious appetizer (brussel sprouts), Rustic Italian soup, and wedge salad, it was a surprise that the Spaghetti alla Carbonara was so tasteless that not even adding salt could rescue it. My wife said the salmon was excellent.
This is the second time my friends and I have met for brunch on Sunday at the Samoset. We sat with a view of the bay. The service was good, but the food was even better. This is a great value. We have traveled to Bangor for brunch, but the choices were limited to a small menu with limited quantities. Coffee and mimosas were extra. The Samoset offers a variety of food selections. The price includes coffee and a mimosa (or glass of champagne) and quantities are not limited. Plus we didn't have to drive 75 miles to have brunch. It is a win-win dining experience.
Everything was superb- would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
We enjoyed everything very much. Had a great time and enjoyed what we ordered, including the cocktails and wine. Until the dessert arrived. Some of us ordered the Tiramisu. And we expected a cake, like some of us had had earlier. What we got was not what we expected.
Food was exceptional!! Mushroom risotto and chicken saltambocca was out of this world
Lobster Bisque was only warmish, had few pieces of lobster from the tip of the claw where it is dry and tasteless, whole dish lacked flavor. Pizza was no better, very bland with chunks of unseasoned, dry breast meat unevenly scattered over it. Altogether disappointing.
We observed my 70th birthday dinner and had not only a creatively delicious and beautifully prepared meal but were charmed by our wait staff who were warm and friendly without being intrusive. This was our sixth visit in six years of coming to Maine to our timeshare condo, and we could not imagine a more perfect vacation eatery. Bravo.
For a day without power I thought they did an amazing job of concocting a delicious meal. Obviously not being able to brew coffee was a downer but the eating by total candlelight was fun. Way to go!
Very old school, food was average. Nothing special, overpriced for quality. Sevice was above standard.
food, server were very good. a little bit too noisy. pitch black outside so you couldn't see ocean or grounds
Our waitress was very attentive but the salad was not as fresh as others that we've had in the area and the pasta with the lobster was just OK
Pleasant surprise, as were are from out of state and after what seemed to be a long ride down s dark road... it was well worth the drive!!!
Food & Service were awesome.
It was dark so we didn’t get to see much of the property.., we went back the next day before leaving Rockport.
Beautiful... will definitely return.
We have eaten at this Italian restaurant inside the Samoset Resort several times. Always good! It is a very well-run operation. Our server was excellent. He was a real pro and had a great personality. Service did lag at the end of our experience mainly because it got very busy and they didn't have enough servers scheduled. Menu stand-outs on this trip were the meatballs with polenta and the salmon.
My wife and I celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary here - entire experience was great. We live in Delaware but will come back to this area for this restaurant and the hotel!
We were on vacation and the restaurant is located in the resort. Great place-food was outstanding and the warmth and feel of the place were just right for a fall evening. Loved the fireplaces!
Great meal! We were in the area for a wedding and decided to try it out. We were not disappointed. We had salads, entrees, and dessert and were comfortably full. The outdoor view from our table was beautiful and the restaurant itself was elegant. Would definitely return, when in the area again.
We stayed at the Samoset Resort for two nights, and ate here for four separate meals. Delicious! Gluten free pizza and pasta option. Great service.
Good wine selection. Caprese salad is usually all the same, however this one was outstanding. Pasta dish and entrees we ordered were both tasty. Server was personable and gave an honest recommendation when asked about an entree. Would come back whether we stayed at Samoset or not.
We had a lovely evening and would recommend. They seemed a bit understaffed but it was Wednesday night so it worked. All in all a good experience and good food.
Overall, the Samoset Resort is a wonderful place to get away for a short vacation. The golf, the accommodations, the dining room, the food and the service were all top notch.
The selection for wines by the glass was outstanding - had a mellow chianti. The ingredients were fresh and food was delicious. I highly recommend the seafood stew rustica - in addition to the seafood that was deliciously cooked, rather than a thin broth it was more like a tomato sauce that was wonderful! And the prices, while not low, were very reasonable. I think the restaurant has made a mistake by not posting the prices on the website because it might discourage people who would therefore think it was very pricey.
You are very well cared from the moment you arrive until you have to leave. Food was superb, we had everything from steak to pasta and nothing fell short of amazing. If you're around the rockport/rockland I highly recommend his restaurant.
We found this restaurant very difficult to find. There is no signage to lead the patrons to it's location which is in the middle of a lovely large resort. The food was well prepared, but we felt like we were rushed to finish our food.
We were on a getaway to the Camden area and this was the worst meal that we had during our stay. The chicken piccata was bland and had a sauce that was overly thickened with flour - I had to request additional lemon slices to make it somewhat edible. A veal dish was a bit better, therefore the 2 star rating rather than one star. There are so many great restaurants in this area - don't bother with this one.
Sorry to say Enoteca was a disappointment after reading all the great reviews. We had a party of 6 and the restaurant was not particularly busy on a recent Saturday night. Our waiter messed up the cocktail order and also brought one incorrect entree. This meant one person had to wait to be brought up to speed with the rest of the diners. Our pre-arranged plan for recognition of a special birthday never happened despite everyone ordering dessert. The entrees were just okay. The menu is nothing special, pretty average assortment of the usual entrees. When asked what the most popular dishes are, the waiter responded with his own personal likes and dislikes (which was not the question asked!!)
Staying in the Belfast, ME area for vacation we've seen a lot of different restaurants and in a web search La Bella Vita came up; it's an easy, 30 minute drive to Rockland (and the resort it sits on); our reservation was handled promptly, the service throughout the meal was excellent, as was the food, from appetizer through dessert...everything was expertly prepared, a couple of small requests and changes were no issue, and the timing of courses was perfect. Again, the service was wonderful and we'll certainly be returning this winter.
Very good, creative food. The Ice Berg salad was over-the-top. Cerra was our server - enthusiastic and well versed.
Ate for first night at Samoset. Food was ok. Nothing special. Expensive for what it is. Salmon was over cooked. Daughter's pizza was just ok a little clunky. Pasta with blognese was ok.
Service was friendly and attentive.
There are better local restaurants.
