La Becasse MI Ratings and Reviews
Such a wonderful experience. It was not crowded or noisy. The perfect place to have a fabulous meal in an unhurried atmosphere where you can actually hear and talk to the person next to you. Service is attentive and the specials were SO delicious. We’ll be back.
The coziest restaurant in Leelanau county and what could be better than a hearty cassoulet on a chilly February evening! The ambiance here is wonderful and the service is fantastic. This is the place to go for classic French cuisine where the chef/owner makes his own charcuterie and duck confit. Wonderful wine choices make this the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion but with their winter specials, there is no need to wait, great food at great prices.
The chef-owner seems to be a charming man with an excellent palate. I think it would be impossible not to have a fabulous meal paired with excellent wine if dining here. It's quiet, romantic, special--like the perfect French village establishment, or the ideal English country pub--save for the fact that it's right here in rural Michigan.
We love La Becasse! It has a local feel to it (you could tell that most patrons were "regulars"), and yet we know it is one of the most sought after places to eat in this area during the tourist season. The ambiance is very French farmhouse - we love the fact that it is not modern, and the chef will come out to your table and chat. Knowledgeable wait staff, food is wonderful.
This is a restaurant for the cautious eater. If you don’t want garlic with your escargot and would like cassoulet that is large but very quiet in flavor, this is the place for you. Appetizers, where chefs often risk adventure, were few in choice-olives, cheese plate. Menu on Trip Advisor suggests more choice of sauces. Disappointed.
I've heard about this restaurant for years as a great place to celebrate a special occasion and it's indeed charming with wonderful service and a great wine list. The food however, was not great. We had a mixed review:
Cheese plate was lovely - but nothing I haven't seen at other places
Rabbit appetizer special - fatty and too much salt
House salad - wonderful
Pork Chop - way overcooked and too try
Seafood special (I can't remember the name)- not so special
I'm not sure if we miss ordered or the quality has really gone downhill. But I'm not 100% sure we'll return anytime soon.
I have visited this restaurant every time I’m in the area (2-3x/yr), it never disappoints. The atmosphere is quaint. The owner and waiter are always friendly and knowledgeable. But it’s the food and the chef that are the stars. Every bite of food is amazing. Between the three of us we had escargot, pate, squash soup, seafood gratin, beef burgundy, almond & pear tart, creme brûlée, chocolate mousse, an excellent Bordeaux and a Sauternes. Wonderful! Looking forward to my next visit.
I have been to this restaurant a couple of times, and each time I am there, I am reminded of how lovely this restaurant truly is. To find a place in rural northwestern michigan with such tasty food, friendly help, and great circuses is special. Keep it up - we'll be back!
Charming as always. The ambience is rustic and romantic and the food is simply outstanding. In the fall and winter months, the cassoulet is not to be missed — it is outstanding. Attentive, knowledgeable servers, wonderful atmosphere and very, very, very good food. La Becasse is a favorite!
Hadn't been here in 8-7 yrs. Food was good, but not as rich and tasty as I remembered. My beef burgundy lacked flavor as did the noodles that came with it. I expected a mouth-watering burgundy sauce, guess I presumed wrong. My husband's hanger steak had more flavor and sauce. Great wine selection, but a bit pricey. I make better Creme Brûlée, not thick and luscious. We'll give La Becasse another try on our next time in town.
Loved the food and service. Our server was so knowledgeable and gracious, and made us very comfortable. I had the special...and it was very fresh and delicious. The molten cake desert was fabulous. This is a small, cozy place and the tables are quite close. Don’t plan on having any private conversations! We had a hard time not listening in on the people next to us...our only issue with this wonderful restaurant.
This was our 47th wedding anniversary and we couldn't have had a more perfect evening. Our waiter Micah was superb and knew the menu extremely well. The food was a delight to the taste buds from the wine, appetizers, main course and then there was the chocolate mousse for dessert....WOW, we did it all and walked away knowing we celebrated our special occasion the most fantastic way possible....Micah added to all of it, but the food was absolutely YUMMY....
