Kyoto Palace Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Usually a great go to spot for Birthdays. I feel like they are riding their reputation. Chef should be a HUGE showman and our guy was not!
Service was slow, with EVERYTHING, our birthday person was COMPLETELY blown off. Even if we don't want ice cream we should get the birthday part for the guy with the birthday.
Overall my worst Kyoto experience and very pedestrian.
Benihana's would have been a better choice.
As always great food and it is always fun to watch them cook the meal. They did jack up prices though on New Year's Eve. We expected it, but we are regulars for occasions so we know you are not getting more for the extra dollars. Nevertheless, great food as always.
Kyoto Palace has always been our go-to for extended family gatherings. They have great table set ups for large groups. This time, we went in a group of 14, and so we had both halves of the u-shaped tables, which was nice. Our server greeted us promptly and politely, and so it started off great. However, after that, it was unfortunately disappointing. The pace was very rushed. We were in and out of there in 70 minutes, including dessert. One of the two chefs was finished with his part of the cooking in about 7 minutes. Boxes for leftovers were staged by our plates within minutes of the food being served. We didn’t really see our servers much again either. The biggest problem, though, was the quality of the food was really not good. The shrimp was dry, the scallops (the best of it) were fresh, but thin, 1/4 slices. The filet mignon was almost too tough to eat. The veggies were undercooked and nothing had seasoning on it. For $700 (18% tip is automatically included), it was really a disappointment.
We had a reservation for our party of 10. Waited over 30 minutes past our reservation time before we were seated. After being seated, it took awhile before our orders were taken and additional time for the chef to come out. Generally not like this so likely due to Christmas/Holiday rush. Food was good and we had a good time.
Food was good. Service was terrible. The waitress never came back after the initial drink and food order so we were left without water and she also forgot to bring our our salads. I asked at the end to be packed up to go and she said of course and then forgot again.
We also waited more than 30 minutes AFTER our reservation time to be seated.
Not the best visit we’ve had there.
My husband and I went for Christmas Eve dinner. We had reservations so did not have to wait long. The place was packed. Greeted promptly. Food was great; the shrimp was slightly over cooked. Had to hunt down the waitresses for another beverage. I did not mind due to the fact it was so busy. They have a coupon in Valpack. Great deal for an awesome meal.
We had our company Holiday lunch here and the food - and its preparation - were fun and delicious. We came early which allowed us to have a quiet atmosphere for the first 45 minutes or so. Once the restaurant fills up the noise level is high and casual conversations across the table come to an end. Even so - we will return.
First, despite a reservation we had a long wait time. Then our chef appeared distracted and made some mistakes with many at our table. When confronted with the mistakes politely there was not much effort to resolve the issue. For example, my boyfriend asked for medium rare steak and was given medium steak. When a comment was made the chef did not offer any type of apology or fix. Usually, the services here are much more positive.
This restaurant is great for larger groups with 8 or more people because they sit you on teppan (iron plate) cooking tables with seats for 8 people on one side and the chef stands on the other side. If you have more people there is another table with the diners facing your table and the two chefs stand in the middle. The chefs are the entertainment and chefs as they demonstrate their slicing and skills with the utensils while cooking in front of you. A great restaurant to meet people, but I do not recommend the restaurant for a quiet, romantic couple-only dinner.
Reserved a seat at 630pm on a Tue night. We had to wait 25min to get seated. Once seated, order and drinks are taken and served. Appetizer is served shortly. The 'show' started 7:40pm.
Food is decent for how it is prepared. There is no do over if its salty or not. I thought it was just right. I had a lobster-shrimp-filet mignon. It was cooked right as ordered.
No need to dress up for this setting, all the smoke gets in your clothes, and hair.
We arrive 10 minutes early for our 830pm reservation and was told the wait would be 20 Min, we were finally seated at 9pm. The waitnfor everything was loooooong. Our appetizers took forever and were MEH at best. Our chef was fun, but messed up and made the wrong rice for the whole table, which left my husband and I riceless for our meal. It was strange that we never got it and he didn’t even ask! In addition to MEH food, the greasy smoke in the air was disgustingly strong which made wanting to eat the food even less appealing.
I think it’s fun to try once, but other places are much better.
