A Salt Lake City icon, Kyoto has delighted literally generations of diners. This cozy restaurant gives the feel of a bit of Kyoto Japan in the Rocky Mountains. Kyoto specializes in authentic Japanese cuisine. House favorites include the Ebi Tempura and Steak Teriyaki. Kyoto is also known for its Sushi Bar. Patrons may either dine at the Sushi Bar or order sushi from a Japanese style booth.

Kyoto Japanese Restaurant was opened by Sam & Yoshiko Tada in 1984. Sam (a native of Kyoto Japan) brought his culinary skills & Yoshiko managed the accounting and service. Both Sam & Yoshiko still participate in the day to day operations of Kyoto.

Exceeded expectations. The food was delicious. Gyoza I highly recommend. The rolls were very good and creative. Our waiter Sean also made the experience even better. Highly attentive and took great care of us. Definitely go here if you’re looking for sushi in the Salt Lake area.

The only reason I think it was less good was the hostess! That lady seems to hate her job. We have been a couple times and every time she scowls at us and is SO unfriendly!!!!

I have been coming to Kyoto’s for over 20 years now maybe even 30. This is my most recommended Japanese restaurant in the state of Utah. I will say those things have changed through the hands of different ownership. It’s tending to lose a little bit of that authentic Japanese service. the sashimi cut are smaller as well as the shrimp tempura. Kyotos was one known for their huge shrimp, tempura and thick sashimi slices. The food is still excellent by taste and still very fulfilling.

Kyoto is always wonderful! A local favorite! Sushi and tempura are perfect, the agadashi tofu and miso soup are the best! The servers are attentive

Service was great and our dinner was nice. Ordered the Tonkatsu and several rolls, all was delicious.

The restaurant was dirty and smelled bad when we go there. The food was really salty and the fish did not taste fresh. We all felt sick the next day… not going back.
