Kyoto Japanese Restaurant
Kyoto Japanese Restaurant was opened by Sam & Yoshiko Tada in 1984. Sam (a native of Kyoto Japan) brought his culinary skills & Yoshiko managed the accounting and service. Both Sam & Yoshiko still participate in the day to day operations of Kyoto.
Very nice restaurant and excellent food! It was a little loud, but that’s only because the people in the booth next to us were extra loud talkers. The service was good, but we were overcharged an extra entree. The person paying the bill didn’t catch it...I called the next day and they fixed it and were so nice about it. We’ll definitely be back!
Great, traditional Japanese food. Highly recommend.
Food is good quality, but it's the basic, what do Americans want offering. Surprised to see it rated as high as Takashi. Nothing disappointing, just average. If I was local, I would go for convenience.
Nice ambiance and food was delicious. Large portions, could have shared the entree.
I took my wife there for our anniversary. The service, food, and atmosphere was simply perfect.
always great food and service
Felt a tad rushed by the waitress . Not crowded and I was w friends I hadn’t seen for awhile
The food was amazing the service was great the best sushi we ever had !
Kiyoto never disappoints. The quality of the food is consistently wonderful and the service is top notch. I have been visiting this restaurant since I was a young girl and have never been disappointed.
Excellent atmosphere and delicious food. The Teriyaki steak was the best I have had.
Excellent as usual. The only complaint heard at my table of 7 women were that the portions were too large (and only because a couple of them would have shared had they known).
Went to Kyoto July 23rd for a birthday celebration for my daughter. Food, service and value are always excellent. The problem we had was with how absolutely filthy the floor of the room was in the private room. The floor was greasy, dirty, old food just sitting there. Really disgusting. Had a napkin that looked "previously used". Not sure who's in charge of cleaning the room/vacuum up from the earlier guests to our reservation but it was as bad as I've seen, anywhere. It appeared that nothing was cleaned between reservations. We will eat there again but hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come.
Food was pretty good. Make sure you specify if you want fried or steamed vegetables. Sushi just ok, but only tried 1 roll. Nothing that blew me away. Honestly, the wife and I were calling it a quiet tepenyaki. Will go again for sure, haven’t really scratched the surface on menu yet.
A+ in all!!! We love going to this restaurant every time we are in SLC, Utah.
Kyoto is always are easy go to. Food and Service is always great!
Wish things were not quite so fast! We were in and out in 45 minutes! Less a dining experience than fast food—albeit very good sushi.
Very good food, excellent service, have been going there for years and love it.
My favorite Japanese restaurant in SLC
Kyoto is a family favorite. It is consistently wonderful food and an excellent food value. The service is friendly and welcoming. Kyoto has been a neighborhood favorite for many years
Surprisingly good sushi. Menu items seem a bit expensive at first glance, but there serving sizes are large.
Had enjoyable birthday dinner
We would recommend Kyoto to anyone. They are very accommodating, and welcoming to all!! Peggi & Addy at the sushi bar are the BEST!! MAKE A RESERVATION!! This restaurant is sooo busy, you'll want to make sure you do!!
Dinner with my daughter. Son in law does not come due to an issue we have had in the past with cross contamination. He is allergic to shell fish. We told the waitress at the time. He still had a reaction. Now, my daughter and I have dinner here only when he is busy and cannot make dinner. Food is always great, service always good as well.
This restaurant never disappoints. Great variety of Japanese dishes to choose from, and they are all delicious.
By far my favorite Sushi place in Salt Lake! Service is great, too.
Very accommodating. Delicious food, and kind staff. A very enjoyable experience. They even surprised our birthday guest with some DELICIOUS dessert. We love to come here whenever we are in town.
Awesome in every way!
I told them use the OP comment box that it was my son’s birthday, but nothing came. I wanted just a small things they could such as a plate of fruits. It was very disappointed. I was visiting my son from CA, also I am Japanese. We have many Japanese restaurants around me in Southern California, taste and services are much better.
I would recommend this restaurant as the food is always great, but I would advise them to not sit on the patio. the traffic noise was awful and made conversing difficult. Constant motor cycle traffic and noisy cars!
Love the restaurant
We had a delightful evening. Delicious selection of sushi and the desserts were excellent.
Very pricey sashimi on top of being very inconsistently cut and served and freshness definitely inconsistent and that bother me more then anything about this restaurant. I have had the best fish and the worst fish from this place.. definitely ask your server what fish is newest. The drink menu and especially the saki martini menu is excellent. THE PEARL NIGORI saki is amazing also ,i highly recommend. The steak is alwas great. I have had just about everything here.. i like it all... oh before i forget some times the tomkatsu gets a little over fried. Everything they do thats tempura is awesome. Service is hit and miss as well bit the food and drink menu have kept me coming back...but dont be surprised to go out as a couple and rack up a $200+ dinner
I ordered the seafood combination plate and one of the imatation crab tempera stick still had the plastic on it. I didn’t mention anything to the waiter but as she was clearing the plate she notice it. I didn’t make a big deal out of it because mistake happen but she apologized for it and had the manager come the meal. I wasn’t expected to be comp for it. But it was very much appreciated. Definitely had a great experience there.
I was expecting more. Food was mediocre and the sushi was by far my least favorite sushi I have had in Salt Lake.
This restaurant continues to be consistent with superior food quality and excellent service. The waitresses wear Kimonos and the seating and decor resembles a traditional Japanese tea house, which makes for a memorable and authentic experience.
Our waitress was great. Thu was her name. Very attentive, smart and funny. She helped us with everything we needed and asked for and I would recommend people sit with her when they go.
But, the menu was stale and was littered with almost all tempura options. Perhaps this is how some Japanese’s cuisine is, it was not for me. This narrowed it down The menu to one Sushi roll that sounded good (and it was!!), chicken teriyaki, and a tempura chicken (like a chicken nugget). The sushi was fresh and delicious. The chicken teriyaki was not made with quality chicken. Very fatty and unhealthy. Regardless of cultural norms, healthy eating is essential and very important to most people. Typically chicken like this is sold at a low price. The teriyaki dressing was good but very thick. The fried chicken was weird but not bad. The tempura veggies underneath were weird also and very counterproductive to healthy eating. It is cheap and it is lazy to fry everything. The sake was good so they do have good taste with that. Perhaps i am too picky and this probably relates to a certain person but for me it is listed as a “will not return”. The food quality set it all for me and there are many, many better restaurants in the city that I know I am paying for quality products.
Update the menu, find new creativity, recreate yourself and I will be back! The vibe was great. The people were great. And the ambiance was okay (message me if you want help on the revamp). The past set menu is dated. Change and the world will change with you. Strive for me. Challenge yourself and never stop trying to be original.
Kyoto is always a great time. The servers are always friendly and helpful and the food is always DELICIOUS. Thank you!
Always wonderful! Kyoto has been our families steady restaurant for years!
On our way to the restaurant, GoogleMaps gave me an offer to reserve a table online. It was quick and easy and by the time we arrived, we were sat in an excluded table. It made us feel special, as if we had reserved this table for a private event. Our waitress, Ping, was incredible! She went above and beyond to accommodate us and always made us feel like a priority. It seemed like a busy night with most of the tables filled so I definitely did not expect such wonderful service. This was our second time visiting and the food still did not disappoint!
Kyoto is our go-to restaurant for special occasions, and for whenever we feel like their bento box lunch.
