Kyoto Japanese Restaurant
Kyoto Japanese Restaurant was opened by Sam & Yoshiko Tada in 1984. Sam (a native of Kyoto Japan) brought his culinary skills & Yoshiko managed the accounting and service. Both Sam & Yoshiko still participate in the day to day operations of Kyoto.
Place was good and very asian feels. Food was great especially the rolls. We ordered a medium-well steak but when served it was raw. So it went back to the kitchen twice, still disappointed with the result because its still raw inside. Me and my family almost lost our appetite waiting because service of the food took “more than an hour” to be served on our table.
We haven’t been to Kyoto for over 10 years and was so happy they were still in business. Food was delicious and just as we remembered it.
Completely blown away by this place! Food was stunning and priced very fairly, service was impeccable, and ambiance was perfection. I will never go to another sushi restaurant again!
Great place to dine. The food was truly amazing and there was plenty to eat. Will definitely dine here again.
Best Japanese restaurant we’ve been at! Everything was great
Good good and atmosphere. The staff doesn’t not Check ok you very often though. Overall a great place to dine.
The food was very good. Portions were very large. They didn't seem understaffed, but service was pretty slow. If you wear a dress, you might not be seated in the "traditional" Japanese booths.
Always such a pleasure to have dinner with marlene and peggi. We’ve been following marlene for the last 20plus years and yet to have her disappoint. We dine at kyoto every week and look forward to the wonderful food and staff.
Bob and jan Bayle.
A family favorite for birthdays and special occasions — my dad lived in Japan for 2 years and says the beef sukiyaki is as close to authentic that’s he’s ever found in the US! We always get some whenever we go; it’s my favorite dish at Kyoto!
great neighbor hood find. great food and people. Peggi is the best Sushi chef around.
Great food. Great servers. The only thing this place is missing is their outdoor dining set up.
Best food anywhere!! Great service reasonably priced. I've been coming here for 20 years - always my first choice.
We love Kyoto restaurant. My wife and I both enjoy Japanese food, and we both feel that Kyoto is the best Japanese restaurant in Salt Lake City. It has been a favorite of ours for over 25 years.
As always the sushi was fabulous and the service from peggi and marlene was extraordinary. Our server Matt was very attentive. I would recommend kyoto for over all Japanese quinine and service. We have been long time customers of Marlene’s for over 20 years and have never been disappointed.
The Kyoto is great we love the food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always fantastic. Never disappointed.
We joined another couple for dinner at Kyoto as it was one of our favorite restaurants and we hadn't been for a few years.
WE HAD A HORRIBLE NIGHT.
The server was great, but great stopped there.
The appetizers were OK (salads, miso, tuna tataki)
THEN came dinner. We all have previously enjoyed Kyoto Tempura, so we all ordered our preference (shrimp, seafood or vegetable). Three of us got our orders and my wife had to wait an additional 20 minutes to get hers. None of the Tempura was cooked properly. The batter was white, oily and soggy - not brown and crisp. All the ingredients were undercooked. We ate a little, but it was not good.
THEN - three of the four of us got serious gastro problems that have lasted through the night and into the second day.
WE WILL NOT BE BACK!!!
It always a great experience here . This will always be a favorite to go to .
Kyoto was a fresh reminder that Salt Lake City does have good. After living in Japan , I can confidently say that Kyoto named the taste, texture, and ambiance of a real Japanese restaurant. We really enjoyed the food!
Ordered only sushi, probably should have tried other options. Ambiance was awesome
It was absolutely wonderful the food was delicious and we sat outside on the patio which was a little distracting as it's so close to the street. But as usual, I love this place.
So delicious!!!! Quick service too! Do, make a reservation ahead of time. Parking is tight.
several options for vegetarian sushi lovers. food is fresh and delicious
Dinner with grandchildren.
We are sashimi lovers and the otoro tuna underbelly we ordered was not nice and thick and buttery as usual. It was cut paper thin and was disappointed paying $14 for it. The Hamachi was 10 times better we were expecting the same type of otoro as last time but now will shop around.
We love the booths, the good variety on the menu got us reminiscing about our trip to Japan, and we vowed to come back soon.
The teriyaki chicken wasn’t cut up very well. The sushi was excellent.
Excellent food alongside excellent energy! Staff was nice and prompts.
A perennial restaurant still living up to it's rep. Always a welcoming environment. Great service. Food is exceptional.
Everything is always so amazing here, the food, the ambience, the staff is so friendly!
Always a treat to visit Kyoto restaurant. The tempura is fantastic, the teriyaki glaze is delicious.
Service was great at Kyoto. Although the place is clean enough, Kyoto is in desperate need of an an update. The food preparation had slipped just a little from before with ‘loose’ sushi rice and more Americanized sushi rolls. But overall still one of our favorite Japanese restaurants.
The food is delicious. The service is great. It's more authentic and twice as much at night than during the day. Well worth it either way.
Great food, liked the waitress, more food than what I was expecting, easy parking. This was recommended by a friend.
Very enjoyable evening with good food and attentive service.
The waiter was very helpful and our meal was made as ordered.
Perfect location for our business meeting of 6 people. The service and the quality were excellent!
Loved their sukiyaki and teriyaki. Friendly service.
Peggy and Marleen are the best sushi chefs in Salt Lake. Always friendly and welcoming. All the staff are lovely. Great fresh food
