Kuzina A Greek Inspired Kitchen - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We had my father's 8th birthday here. I choose Kuzina based on reviews. Price was secondary and what a pleasant surprise. We really got our money's worth and then some. Christian our waiter was excellent. Very attentive and didn'the mind my family's wacky sense of humor. Ken...from the kitchen came out to wish my dad a happy birthday with a little something special to drink. I still don't know who is older, he or my dad. Over all an excellent dinner experience.
We really liked the restaurant! The appetizers and lamb were outstanding! The sides that came with the main course (peppers and potatoes) had way too much lemon flavoring. We couldn't eat them because it was too sour. Service could've been better. Even though the restaurant wasn't busy, we had to wait quite a while for our server to come around to our table.
I had the fresh fish which was very well prepared, Charcoal grilled with olive oil and lemon, authentic Greek style. I also asked for a small side of lemon potatoes (excellent), Greek salad and tzatziki . Everything was very well prepared. Wine list is interesting and varied.
We ate at kuzina this past Saturday evening. We found the wine list to be very good and overall the food to be really tasty. The only complaint from our party was that the portion sizes were a bit small. They would do well to add a portion of rice to each plate, as our meals only came with two roasted potato halves and vegetables.
The servers and staff were friendly, however there was a large birthday celebration going in the restaurant on that seemed to overwhelm them a bit. They missed a couple of things we ordered (they didn't charge us for one delayed main meal) and were apologetic and good about it. I would possibly go back however would try a few other places first. We had a baby in our group and they didn't have a baby chair which I found interesting.
I'm not typically a fan of Greek food but this restaurant has converted me. I have been twice now. Once with friends and once with family. Both occasions the food met every expectation. The lemon roast potatoes are to die for. I just wish you got more. The lamb shoulder is a dish I thought I would never order as it is typically a grissly cut, but Kuzina must slow cook this all day as the meat just falls of the bone and is so tender and flavourful, that I can't get enough. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable. Giving you plenty of time to sit and chat. We never felt rushed. This restaurant is a must try.
I love the relaxed feel of this place nice clean, slick design. Fabulous wine list!
Very nice service even the chef visited our table.
I had a very tasty and tender lamb souvlaki my husband had a great lamb shoulder we definitely would return to try more dishes.
Food and ambience was great. Server was very nice. One observation was the server was a little too keen to get us served. That is better than poor service but we felt rushed at times to choose our menu items and move more quickly than we wanted. That's all. Otherwise, very good experience.
By far the best meal we have had in a long time. All three of us were thrilled. We enjoyed it all so much that despite being so full we couldn't breathe, we couldn't possibly have not try the desserts. As with our appetizers and entrees, nothing disappointed. We rolled out totally stuffed and completely satisfied. Highly recommended.
Service was slow but it was very busy. Every table was full the whole time we were there. All dishes that we ordered were excellent.....spanakopita, calamari, rack of lamb, souvlaki and a rice seafood something. Would definitely come back just for the great food.
An absolutely outstanding restaurant . The food was very good and the wine prices were reasonable . We dined mainly on the appetisers to sample as much as we could as it was the 1st time we went to this restaurant . We expected that we would like some and that some we would not like as much . We were wrong , they were all terrific so we had to take some home . They even had malpeque oysters and there were outstanding and very well served, all the oysters were perfectly opened--a nice change for Calgary where most times very good oysters are ruined by poor preparation .
I held a business lunch here and I can't recommend it. The service was poor (waitress kept on forgetting things, only took one person's drink order at a time) and the food was really slow coming out, which was inconvenient because we all had to get back to work. When the food arrived, everyone's chicken souvlaki was so tough we were dipping it in our salad dressing to help it go down. It's a shame. The atmosphere was really nice and it could have been a good experience.
I have mixed feelings about dining at Kuzina. I was there with a group for a birthday celebration. The food was excellent and our server was very attentive. The overall design and décor of the restaurant is classy and upscale.
However, the major downfall for this restaurant is the noise. The restaurant was only half full and we had to raise our voices to hear each other at our own table. I don't know if it is poor acoustic design or the new trend of having reflective surfaces in the dining area to make it sound like it is more energetic and full, but it was just plain annoying to dine is such a noisy environment. Your noise level scale calls the highest noise level "energetic". It is not energetic, it is annoying which is too bad because I would recommend everything else about this restaurant. I just wouldn't go back because of the noise level.
We booked Kuzina because it was one of only a few places near 17th Ave that we could find a table for a group of 6 on a Friday night with only a few days notice. The service was great and the food was pretty good, but not good enough that I'm planning to come back. Specifically, the ribs and chicken souvlaki I had were quite dry, and would have benefitted from a sauce on the side (maybe tzatziki?). Still a good meal and a great time with friends, though!
What I love at Kuzina:
- Fantastic authentic Greek food, simple and fresh, just like at home (approved by Greeks :-) )
- Fresh ingredients flown in regularly from Greece, such as olives, cheeses, fish. Try catch of the day, you won't regret it.
- Home-like cooking, tasty and healthy
- Warm, inviting ambiance, with Greek music playing softly in the background
- Attentive, competent staff
- Unpretentious atmosphere, with the owner coming by regularly to check on his guests
- Good value for money
I have been to this restaurant numerous times and it never disappoints - will definitely be back!
Four Greek food-loving older adults picked this spot to try on a Saturday evening. There is parking in the back of the restaurant. The ambience does not "scream Greek" and the decor was subtle and contemporary. The overall service was good, although our young server seemed inexperienced and we could not hear what she was saying. The food was delicious. I especially enjoyed the grilled fish of the day which was better than most fish I've had in Calgary. Portions were moderate to large, and I would have enjoyed smaller portions of the avoglemono soup and side Greek salad that came with my main. My fellow diners also enjoyed their lamb kleftika, moussaka, and steak. The taramasalata and saganaki were excellent. I had Retsina wine with my meal and it was fantastic. My least favourite was the dessert. It was good, but not $9 good.
My friend and I dined at Kuzina before attending an NHL game. Everything was fabulous except my friend's lamb chops were quite fatty. We were even given a 10% discount as we were attending the game. I would definitely go there again and recommend to friends.
I'm not a foodie but trust me, the food was outstanding. We've had Greek elsewhere that we thought was pretty good, but this was the best. We had cocktails and appies. They knew what a Manhattan was. The Moussaka was the best we've had anywhere. We shared Baklava with our Spanish Coffee. They apologized for the service as they were literally run off of their feet, but we were never left wanting. The one flaw was giving us a wrong bottle of wine which cost $20 more than our selection, but it was still a good wine. They were so busy it was hard to fault them, at least it was a New Zealand wine. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to any fan of Greek food.
My fiance and I went here for Valentines Day! Expecting it to be busy but not for us to be rushed to eat and leave!
I would definitely go here again for the food but would hope I wouldn't get the same server!
It was our first time and we would give it another chance due to the food and I believe the manager or owner who was friendly and was helping out.
I'm not one for reading other people's reviews about a particular place to eat as I believe reviews are subjective. That being said, kuzina was fantastic! The staff were very welcoming and at tentative. The prices were great. The food was outstanding and filling. I would strongly recommend Kuzina to anyone, regardless if they do or do not love Greek food. Will go again in time and will likely bring more people along.
