KUSAKABE
Kusakabe is a gourmet sushi experience in San Francisco that offers diners a delicious way to taste a style of sushi they may not be familiar with. The chef at Kusakabe serves a prix fixe meal every night that features the Kaiseki style of sushi. After the meal has been served, diners may order additional fare from the a la carte menu.
During their meal, guests at Kusakabe will enjoy freshly made seasonal sushi, including a medium fatty tuna cured in soy sauce, sashimi served with fresh wasabi and onion sauce, Japanese oysters served with caviar and a soup of snap pea and white bean paste. More sushi, including the chefs choice of the day, completes the meal.
love their sushi and sake
I really enjoy omakase here.
Simply OUTSTANDING!
The food was awesome, liked it very much. It was my wife’s birthday and they had a nice gift (desert dish) for her. Overall, great dining experience.
Impeccable and creative dishes. Well worth the price. Go for a special occasion or any time you want to treat yourself.
Truly a beautiful meal start to finish.
Words cant describe what we have experience, the food was awesome
One of the best Japanese restaurant in town.
This is perhaps the best sushi place I have ever been, and I am a frequent visitor to Japan. The omasake was just impeccable. Fish was so fresh and was elegantly presented. Highly recommended.
Amazing and incredible experience. Best Omakase I’ve tried in San Francisco with the freshest, most delicious fish. A real treat. Ambiance was warm and inviting. Expert sushi chefs and impeccable service makes me look forward to the next time I come back again. As close to perfection as it can get. Thank you Kusakabe, for the unforgettable birthday dinner!
Amazing in every way!
It’s a small venue with a large sitting bar to watch the chefs work and also serve the beautiful, amazing food. Very attentive staff, who explained the menus and sake menu very clearly.
It wasn’t cheap but it was worth every cent. I’ll be back!
We had the petit omakase dinner at $95. Tuna and Japanese bonito were standouts in an premium selection of fresh and delicious fish. Presentation and service were excellent. Top notch sake, wine, and beer selection. Recommend sitting at the bar. Parking is difficult but there’s an evening deal at the Hilton for $5 flat fee. Not sure if it’s weekdays only.
Food was great. Just a little bothered that all 4 sushi plates was wiped with same cloth consecutively before washing considering two plates were from diners we don’t know. Since my plate was last, the cloth wiping my sushi plate had just touched 3 others.
Each time sushi was served, we would eat it with our chopsticks, and all of our sushi plates would be wiped by the same cloth. Simply put, the cloth touched another diners used plate and directly wiped my plate before cloth was washed. This happens for each course. To me this is a hygienic issue.
Great omakase menu with some unique and delicious touches, highly recommend.
Delicious as always! Special ingredients, prepared to shine.
Great service. Waitress knew everything about the dishes we were served as well as with the wine pairings. Great experience and great food.
Been here a few times, and have nothing but good things to say about this place. I just got back from Japan, seeing my family, and this place reminds me of home. The friendly staff, great quality food, and overall ambience is fantastic.
Amazing sushi experience. Direct interaction with the sushi chefs who create a festival of prime flavors to excite your palate. Great selection of sakes. Simply incredible. Highly recommended.
An unexpected nice experience
The short chef omakase was spectacular. Stunning flavors of subtle juxtapostion, perfectly uniform presentation, exceptionally well timed delivery of each course with enough moments of rest between the larger tastes. Superb service.
We were gifted a gift certificate for this restaurant and did not know anything about it. What a spectacular dinner we had! We had the owner as our sushi chef and were amazed by the detail of each dish. This was our 10 year anniversary and there were so many special touches the entire night. The 11 course meal with sake pairing, ended up being close to 20 items. We hope to be able to visit Kusakabe again. Sitting at the sushi bar is the best way to experience this restaurant.
Amazing. Just go!
Delicious. So good. Wish there was an option for just sushi though.
Outstanding as always!
Good food lots of
Kusakabe has completely lost their way. The dishes are very mixed in terms of quality. This restaurant is rapidly deteriorating in quality - thus why they have 1000 point tables available all the time. Avoid!
Fantastic omakase experience! Every dish was fresh and tasty, excellent service to boot!
From start to finish KUSAKABE was fantastic, our reservation was confirmed when we walked in and we were seated immediately.
Once we sat down menus were presented and drink orders were taken.
We were then greeted by our Sushi Chef, he was friendly and explained every item as they were presented to us.
Everything was delicious and the staff was great!
I wholeheartedly recommend visiting KUSAKABE for a special event or date night.
Definitely will be coming back again when I get the chance!
Outstanding presentation, but it was the taste and freshness of the food that truly was out of this world.
Fresh and delicious sushi, especially uni !
The benchmark of Sushi in the Bay area for the last 5 years!
The food was spectacular, as always. Matt Oka was our sushi-san and her created a perfect meal. The sushi smoked with cedar wood ( by charing the wood slab while the sushi was on it) was amazing. Take the wine or sake pairing.
KUSAKABE is one of my favorite places.
An incredible experience. There is no place like Kusakabe.
Did not serve any drinks (incl water) until end of second course despite us asking 3 times.
Three different waiters served us throughout, all of them confused and awkward — asked to confirm orders multiple times.
Very long wait times between dishes — by the end we were exhausted and wanted to leave.
Was there for a birthday; confirmed this on the phone with restaurant beforehand — they served birthday cake to the two tables around us but not to us (embarrassingly for me taking my wife out for her birthday meal).
Sushi was good but not exceptional; had better for much less elsewhere in SF. For the price, definitely not worth the visit.
Incredible food and service. Would love to go back for more!
I brought a freind and we had a fabulous time. The food was stunning as was the entire experience. This isn't just a place you go to eat - the experience is a big part of it. I'm looking forward to saving up for my next visit.
Best and most affordable omakase experience I have had in San Francisco!
Took my 95 yr old Made in Japan Mom and a nice lady guest for a Friday night extragalactic sushi experience. Sat at the bar in front of Ken-san who was outstanding as usual. The Dude, Mr. Kusakabe, was at his post, just being cool and calm like Keanu without the hair......so the three of us had the 11 course Omakase, my mother enjoyed a nice bottle of Chardonnay while I downed half a dozen ice cold Asahi’s. A special glass of plum sake with desert (not included in the Omakase for some reason) topped off a wonderful evening of delicious, top quality sushi and sashimi, same you would expect in Shibuya or Ginza. That said it ain’t cheap so be ready to splurge like the big one’s coming tomorrow! And I made mom drive back to the East Bay.........LOL!!!!
Great food. Great services
Always a pleasure, each omakase course was delicious, high quality, and beautifully presented.
