Kurah Mediterranean Ratings and Reviews
We really enjoyed our visit to Kurah. While it is a fairly small place but the tables weren't positioned tightly together. The food was extremely flavorful and fresh. My wife and I shared a sampler platter as well as a couple of small plates. All of the dishes were very tasty and well presented. They also offered some interesting cocktails to choose from. We will definitely return.
We were looking for something different and Kurah's offered that to us. The Red Lentil soup was really good, though I was surprised it wasn't red. The service was good, could have been more attentive but there was only one waitress and it did get busy. Overall, Kurah was a good place for something different, a tasty alternative to the standard fare.
The evening started out with a mistaken understanding about my reservation. It had all of the makings of a bad experience. I went expecting a table but ended up sitting at the bar. The bartender recognized my discontent ,relayed it quickly to the owner who apologized and explained to me where the misunderstanding occurred. Then I proceeded to meet and talk with people at the bar and had one of the nicest evenings I’ve had in a long time. Not only was the fellowship good but I think it was the best Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food I’ve ever had. The mushroom spinach soup appetizer was delicious and the vegan platter with Kibbe hummus and falafel couldn’t have been better. There is a reason that this restaurant is busy. I will no doubt be back
My wife and I had a pleasant dinner here. The service was good, friendly, and fast. The atmosphere and décor were different and fun. The food was mediocre. I had the paella which had lots of mussels but lacked flavor and certainly wasn't prepared in a traditional way. The shawarma that my wife had also lacked flavor. I've made both dishes at home with better results. The desserts were fine.
We ordered the Paella which seemed to have mostly frozen fish and vegetables and was not seasoned well at all. The Lamb chops had a very sweet sauce and came to the table almost raw. We took them home rinsed off the sauce seasoned them and re cooked them. Very disappointed, needless to say we will not be returning.
Met a friend at Kurah and although we dined at 6pm, the place was already packed! Even with cold weather and snow outside! The service was friendly and interacted with us to help round out our enjoyment of the evening. The food was fantastic and we plan to visit again.
We were happy to find Kurah for a Christmas night dinner. So glad it was open! Our vegetarian wished his were more spicy. Our two boys were crazy about theirs. I am on a diabetic diet and ordered spaghetti squash alfredo, but I believe the alfredo sauce was higher in carbs than I pictured. The service was "old world," meaning pretty slow, but we weren't in a hurry. It was a nice night out. All in all, Kurah had yummy food and a nice Mediterranean vibe.
The pizza was a big surprise. We had a White pizza with a great Italian cheese and mushrooms...the crust and ingredients were fab. The Branzino was expertly and deliciously prepared. The Nero D'Avila wine was reasonably priced and delicious! A very good find for us (although obviously found by the neighborhood folks much before us)!
This was the first time I had done brunch here and it was great! I enjoyed the good value of the food/beverage and the food is really delicious. It's a nice vibe because it's a bit more quiet so you can actually have a conversation with your group. Definitely a good find
Have been here twice now and the food has been excellent both times. The service was very good as well. I've seen some very poor reviews on here, but can't begin to understand them. The portions are small for American restaurants, but that's only because portions are too large here, period. The only negative for me is with the traditional music being played. It's just not for me, but I understand why they play it. Would always recommend this restaurant as an option in the South Loop.
Decent food and Great Service. The issue is the portion size. The couple behind us complained about the same thing. Way too small think a little bigger than a frozen food portion. Charge me whatever, but give me the food please. I let after the appetizers and went down the street. Stayed there for me hours drinking and laughing.
I've been to this restaurant a dozen times, mainly on the weekend and mainly around 11 or 12pm. It's a place my mother and I like to go and we order the same dishes: Kurah sampler and the grilled kebob platter. The pita is rather thick so I usually separate them into smaller pieces, but the dips are satisfying. I also like their falafel because it is slightly spicy.
I've never been here where the food came out quickly, but there must be a reason for that.
food is strange. small portions, inconsistent pricing, a surprising lack of pita bread given with food. the kifta was strange, and oddly shaped. not sure what part of the middle east makes this style. the rice was too heavy on saffron. so many better, authentic mediterranean restaurants. make the journey up north for better food. service was slow, fifty minutes for entrees.
Food was very good and they were able to adapt dishes based on my dietary restrictions. Would note that for some reason when I think of Mediterranean that I think of Greek. Not sure why. The dishes were more lebanese. All food was good though and would definitely come back again and order take out lunch from here.
Nice restaurant in great South Loop area of Chicago. Lebanese food,Persian specialties too. Love the appetizers (humus, brie patatoes, pittas),not so impressed from dates with bacon (I like the taste of this better in Tapas Valencia ),Nice lamb and chicken kebab with rice and grilled veggies. Desert was to die for...
Overall I like the place, quite and nice atmosphere at lunch time.Service was good.
Worst review I have ever left. If I could give them a negative star, that would reflect the service and the taste of our appetizers. We will NEVER return or recommend them. Stay away! Find another restaurant. Hate to say it, but McDonald's beats this joint. Manager didn't seem to care when I told him specifics about the server or food. Looked at me like I had two heads! May recommend it to my worst enemy...
The service at kurah was outstanding. The servers were very attentive and polite. Made great recommendations for entrees and wine. Drinks were good also. Had a manhattan and wine (Malbec).
Food was another story. Had sampler as appetizer and it was ok. Had ceviche also. It was fair. Entree was the lamb shank. Overcoooked to the point were I had to asked the waiter to take to kitchen and debone the meat. Well prepared lamb shank should fall off the bone. Not this one.
Cute place. Great service. Fair food.
