Love this place. I’ve gone four times with different small groups and it’s always a hit. Love the food. Lots to try on the menu...the lamb burger, lamb shank, kabob dinners, falafel, and hummus are great!
Great food. Good service.
This restaurant mainly serves whole platters, so do not expect any add-ons (i.e. a bowl of saffron rice) here. The plates were decently portioned and were healthy in some ways. Although the restaurant was a bit dark, and that the interior clashed with the post-modern exterior windows, the place was very inviting and calm for a Saturday evening. Service was slower than expected, as it took around 30 minutes to get my party's food. In addition, the first coffee I was given was very cold and did not taste great. This place is not good for families trying to budget as my party's total was well over $75. However, this place is decently priced for single individuals. I only came here to try a new style of food, but at the end of the day, I decided that this place was a one-and-done.
You could probably have an amazing meal with just the appetizers. Bacon wrapped dates were heavenly. Hummus, pita, olives, etc... were awesome. We got the large sampler platter for main course and it was not the same caliber as the appetizers, but still good. It could easily feed 3-4 people. The eggplant was a little over done and the meats were a little in the salty side for my personal taste, but still enjoyable. Service was great. Ambiance is nice. Overall enjoyable experience.
This is a very nice option if you’re looking for a pleasant, good value, good food restaurant in the south loop area. Never had a bad meal there and we’ve been there several times, after performing at Puanofirte.! All good.
I was so looking forward to this restaurant, but was a bit disappointed. The falafel was OK, but did not have enough tahini sauce. The kifta was not very good and the portion size were very small for the price. I don't think we will be back.
We tried a couple of the traditional appetizers, Dates Wrapped with Bacon, and Hummus, and both were very good and enough for four people to split. However, two of us are light eaters. The pita triangles were warm and had excellent texture. We ordered the Beef Shawarma, Lamb Shawarma and Shrimp with Rice. Two of us loved the Shrimp with Rice and Lamb Shawarma, one person liked the Beef Shawarma, and one liked the Shrimp with Rice. My husband and I will go back, but our friends probably will only try it again if we were the ones choosing the restaurant. Thus, my rating of 4 stars.
This was a birthday dinner for my father. The food was good, we’ve been here before, it’s actually one of our favorite places, we brought our dad here because we kept saying how good the food is. Ours was excellent but he ordered the lamb kebab, it was poor, hard and chewy. The main problem for which I’m giving it a 1 star is our waiter. If I would have paid the bill I would have definitely said something to him, he charged us 20% for group, I’ve never been taxed this high before not even at the Signature Room, and then he also said that his tip is too small and we have to leave another 20% extra. What? Is anyone aware of what the waiters do over there? Do all of them do that or just this one? How embarrassing Kurah! Not bringing my family and friends there anymore and will not recommend you anymore. Change your waiters! This is poor business etiquette!
Thank you for the review, I am so glad to hear that your father loves Kurah. It seems that there was a misunderstanding with your server. Our system puts an automatic gratuity of 18% on parties of 6 or more. There is no way the server can add a larger gratuity, unless you decided to give extra or add it on to the bill. If you feel that you have been overcharged in any way then please reach out to us so we can remedy the situation. Thank you! firstname.lastname@example.org
This was a second visit for my husband and me, a first for our friends. We had great service and thoroughly enjoyed the food.
Had a great time there with another couple and the staff didn’t rush us at all. Good food and service!
It was overall a good experience. We were quickly seated at a nice table. App and food were brought out in a timely manner as well. Serving sizes for the price were on the smaller side though. But the food was decent.
The service we had was excellent. We have always enjoyed our meals each time we have eaten at this Reataurant. Bacon and dates are great! Highly recommend this place - have eaten here several times and intend to return!
I love this restaurant -- the food, the ambience, and the staff are all great! It's my favorite place to go when visiting my son and daughter-in-law in the South Loop.
Overall the night was great would of given a 5 however I was not impressed with the lamb and had a really fatty piece of beef. Everything else was great!!
Good food at a great price with generous, shareable portions. The upstairs seating is perfect during our coldest days--heat rises. The ambiance is charming, especially after our server dimmed the lights which were a bit bright for dinner. They serve the best bacon wrapped dates I've ever had, and you can't go wrong with the lamb burger.
The biryani is extremely sweet! Hummus and calamari were great.
Great food, beautiful dining room but the service (food coming out of the kitchen, not neglect from our server) was slow for no apparent reason
New place. Went by happenstance.
A: We're going back.
B: It was great. We had 3 appetizers and entrees for all 4 of us. All great.
C: Nice bar and selection of drinks and wines.
D: Nice decor and comfy chairs.
This is our favorite regular neighborhood restaurant. We also enjoy a sumptuous, healthy, and relaxing meal here.
One of the best Baba Ganoush recipes I've had (and I've ordered plenty), especially considering it wasn't very smokey, which I always thought was a requirement (amping it up a bit wouldn't hurt; you gotta roast the eggplant, anyway, right?). But what I'm coming back for is the lamb burger. So very good. It takes more visits and ordering more variety to offer an overall review, so I'll end my comments here.
Very good for a Tuesday night... A bit light on help in the dining area but manageable...
Ambiance and service was great! For the main entree we ordered chicken and beef shawarma and it was bland. No seasoning at all. It came with vegetables and those were not even seasoned.
Food was delicious.
Had an assortment of appetizers for dinner. Everything came out fast and was delicious. Our server was very friendly and attentive.
Our waitress was amazing and took great care of us. She recommended some great food and held a great conversation and was attentive and caring. The food was great, portions were just right and we loved it all.
Great food and service. Background music still allowed for conversation. We'll return!
Excellent authentic Lebanese and Syrian food with great service in a nice themed setting. Close to downtown Michigan Avenue shopping
I'm a fan of bacon-wrapped dates, and will usually order them when they appear on other restaurant menus, but Kurah has THE BEST bacon-wrapped dates I've ever had. Maybe it's the pomegranate sauce. They're wonderful. The garlic butter that comes with the Black Angus Kabob is to die for.
Great ambiance and great food. Whether I'm here for business, with friends, or just to kick back, the server always gets the vibe of the table and adjusts to the need. This is a neighborhood gem but so worth the trip for those not in the South Loop.
Pre Bears football dinner
From the other reviews, I expected a great meal. Unfortunately, the service was very slow, most people's food was just okay, and where we were seated upstairs was stifling. The lentil soup was all pepper and dill, the Jerusalem salad was not very appealing. The rice was cooked fine, but we didn't go there for the rice. The best part of the meal was the dessert (bread pudding and chocolate chip cookies with ice cream). With so many good restaurants in Chicago, we would not go back to Kurah when we visit again.
We were pleased with our first visit to Kurah. The menu offered a nice variety to choose from. The restaurant is described as Mediterranean and menu items ,to my mind, included Greek, Persian, and Middle Eastern dishes. The service was very attentive. We will be back.
Delicious food and excellent service.
The food didn’t really taste authentic. Mediterranean was misleading. I’m really giving one star because I wrote in my reservation that it was my boyfriend’s birthday and to do something special for him. The host saw the note on the computer and wished him happy birthday. Waitress even mentioned “birthday”..but did nothing. I told her she should have done something..and she said she doesn’t really do it for customers personally. And that I should have talked to her in private. But if the host saw the note, she should have spoken to the waitress. My boyfriend is not from here and it would have been amazing if he was surprised with a mini cake and candle. Anything! I was so so sad. I looked high and low for the perfect restaurant in this area and even after I told her, she should have brought something out for him. She said “well, I’m sorry about that and sorry if I ruined your birthday”. (Jenny waitress). Oh and when I first arrived, the host just
was startled and broke the mini glass at her station. (I even asked if she was our waitress and she said no just the host. And yet, I saw her serving a plate of food!) It’s not a place I would recommend. Plus all the staff are Americans...so was hoping for more authenticity. And stay away from the falafels. Dry!!

From the birthday boy: "In the Islamic religion, you cannot serve pork and alcohol. You do not know anything about Islam. The owner of the restaurant is disorganized and not manageable- and I must say they don't know anything about the kebabs!. Food and service at this place is not really worth a guest invitation. Do not spend your money on this trash. Foolish and inexperienced all around! "
I love this place and everyone who comes with me falls in love as well.
Our first time at Kurah and we enjoyed it.
Hospitable welcome at the door
We were a group of 3 meeting up with a larger group
After some re-arranging and the arrival of some extra people, causing the overall numbers to be more than the larger table could accommodate , our group of 3 went upstairs where we were graciously and quickly served.
(I had a need to be finished before the other group, as we were attending a show at nearby Piano Forte)
Food was quite tasty, I thought portions could have been a bit larger but everything was good and the service was wonderful and friendly and we would go back if we’re in that neighborhood on another trip to Chicago
Our waiter was fantastic and gave us great guidance through the menu and overall service. And the restaurant not only accommodated our mid sized group last minute but gave us a cozy private dining area. We felt very taken care of.
Thank you so much! Please join us again!
Loved it. The plavce was good, food was amazing, the service was a little slow but for the food we got, I guess we can ignore that
It was great experience!
Well-conceived Mediterranean style food. Modern AND ancient.
