About Kunkel's Seafood & Steakhouse
The Kunkel family was introduced to the restaurant business in 1979, when Carol & John purchased a well established luncheonette located on Kings Highway in Audubon, called Del"s Luncheonette. The family lived above the business and our children were exposed to the restaurant business at a very early age. Family has always been one of the key ingredients to our success in every restaurant that we have owned or have operated since then.
The feel of family is evident throughout Kunkel's, from the moment you walk in the door and are greeted by Carol, all the way to the kitchen where son Justin is preparing some of our great meals. You feel at home in our cozy dining room featuring two fireplaces and mahogany and painted woodwork throughout, which was designed and built by John. You will also find daughter's Rachel and Tereze occasionally serving our guests, as well as son-n-law Jim overindulging on pasta on Tuesday nights.

Kunkel's Seafood & Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
This is a great steakhouse to which you can bring your own
wines!!! I can't think of any others where you can; plus they know how to cook a steak.
Mine always comes out perfectly done to my specifications - kudos to the chef! Also, if you don't like steak, they have numerous other options like seafood, chicken, italian to tempt you. The service is usually pretty good - some of the young kids need some training; but they are always pleasant. It's the kind of place where you can bring your grandmother or your date and they will both be impressed.
Food was fabulous! Liked that they gave you time between courses, did not feel rushed at all especially considering we were the for Mother's Day. Service was great as well. Would highly recommend giving this place a try. A bit pricey....but worth every cent!!!
Almost great. We had 10 in our party. Our server, was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Those of us who had steak or short ribs raved about the meal. On the other hand, those that had fish were less than pleased. For apps we all shared Thai calamari and bruschetta, both of which were great. So, for the food, overall we'd rate it 7.5/10. It took forever to get our meal. I recall reading the same comment from other dinners so I'm thinking the kitchen must be small or understaffed because I don't think it was our server. I will go back, but not in a rush.
This was not our first time at Kunkel's. It is on the upscale side, but our very informed and attentive server made it a wonderful night. I'm not sure why I did not leave this review earlier. However, while the passage of has me confused as to exactly which of their delicious dishes we each had, the food there is always wonderful. This time was no exception.
This was our first time dining at Kunkels. We were totally impressed with the experience. The food and service was outstanding, especially the Louisiana ribeye steak and beef short ribs. If you want to go out and have a nice steak, forget Morton's or Ruth Chris and go to this place. We'll deathly return to try some of the other menu items.
The food was delicious, but the wait for the food was too long. We had to wait ridiculously long for the bread, appetizer and salad. I would have thought that the salad would not have taken as long as it did to arrive. We had fried tomatoes and it was 3 slices and we expected for $10 to have at least half tomato. All in all the food was yummy and loved the atmosphere. I would definitely go again
EVERYTHING was excellent from the greeting at the door to the farewell on the way out and everything in between. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants. We bring new people with us every time we go and they NEVER leave disappointed. Thank you for consistently having such great service and wonderful food - It's a rarity anymore.
Good steakhouse, nice that it's in a neighborhood (more or less). Friendly staff. Somewhat surprised to not see a NY strip on the menu. We both had filets, which were very good, and just slightly done more than requested; not enough to complain about as far as we were concerned. If you want to avoid bnusier, louder steak places and have a special bottle of wine, this is a fine option.
Have been to Kunkel's before. Lunch menu actually more appealing than the dinner menu in my opinion. Friend and I had a lovely meal, great service. Tried the crab cakes but was disappointed. Definitely would opt for something different next time. They looked pre-packaged and too much filling. My friend's meal was delicious! Service was wonderful and we were not rushed at all. Great place to catch up with a friend!!
We went out for a Friday night dinner with friends and it was great! The owner greeted was warmly at the door and we were seated in the dining room where a waitress came to take our drink orders (this is a BYOB so no alcohol served) and she proceeded to tell us the specials for the evening so we could decide while she got the drinks. Our appetizers were very good -- we had shrimp cocktail, fried green tomatoes, and mussels fra diablo; the only complaint was the cocktail sauce could be spicier -- the tomatoes were crispy and served with a delicious cream sauce. Our meals were a plain filet, fried fish special (founder and shrimp) and pasta with clams -- the filet came out perfectly and the other meals were just as good. We were filled but managed to have some dessert -- homemade rice pudding and a warm chocolate cherry bread pudding; both were wonderful and perfect ending to a great meal. We will definitely be back again!
Carol was absolutely amazing she checked on us many time throughout our meal making sure we had everything and anything we could possibly need . The food was outstanding my boyfriend had the dinner special rack of lamb and I had the lobster butter flounder which was unbelievably delicious the sauce would be amazing over pasta . We finish our meal with a delicious brownie and rice pudding for dessert. I would highly remembered give them a try carol made us feel like we had been there a million times .
We had come once ourselves, and liked it so much we wanted to return with another couple. Everyone enjoyed our meals. The juice with the steamed clams was especially tasty. Three of us ordered meals with lump crabmeat, which was served in a generous amount. Service was attentive. The pace of the meal was perfect for a long conversation, to thoroughly enjoy our evening together - just the way a meal with friends should be enjoyed.
Dinner reservations Saturday at 6:45pm. Ordered appetizers and dinner. It took 30 minutes for the Shrimp Cocktail to arrive. Server said the kitchen was preparing the Shrimp Cocktail. Preparing????? I guess the shrimp was frozen because I have not ever waited an entire 30 minutes for a Shrimp Cocktail! My daughter had the Crabmeat Cocktail and asked for melted butter. It took 20 minutes to get the melted butter. Dinners arrived finally 70 minutes later. The Food was okay. We ordered desserts. The apple and walnut bread pudding was nothing special. The pudding had a small amount of sauce and to suffice it was dry. Time now is 8:40pm. Asked for check and it was a whopping $199.00 before the tip. My advice is stay away because this restaurant has S L O W Service, the food is mediocre and they charge premium for diner grade food.
