They were running behind but everyone working there was genuinely trying their best and going above and beyond to get us seated right away. The food was great, the service was outstanding. We went for New Years Eve, but I've also gone on a casual Friday night with a larger group and I've never been dissappointed

We decided to go there because we had heard that the restaurant was closing, although a pleasant experience it was obvious that they were closing as they were out of many items. Hopefully the staff will receive good severance packages and find other employment.

Sorry to see them close. It has been a favorite restaurant in the city and our go to place for special occasions for years. Contrary to review I read the staff was professional and friendly as always and the service and food 1st class. Our server Gary took care of us and made it a wonderful experience.

This is a place that was much better than it needed to be, given the touristic location. It had all the elements of a great restaurant experience, all in a historic, terrific-looking space. Unfortunately, the owners have decided to close the restaurant. We shall have to look for another place to eat in the Union Square area. Addio Kuleto's.

A very enjoyable pre-theater dinner. My son and daughter (age 30 something) were visiting me from out of town. We were headed to the Orpheum theater to see The Lion King and the Powell St. location is a no brainer. I'm sorry I cannot remember our server's name...but service was good, food was excellent (calamari, salads, fish entrees, and dessert/tiramisu...were all excellent). Loved the convenience of location and the quality of our meal. We sat on the periphery of the hotel....very elegant and enjoyable ambiance. I would return.

Food was okay, not great. The eggs Benedict were a little cold and the hollandaise was unremarkable. The pancakes were dry and again, unremarkable. The service, even for a Union Square place, was atrocious. I had to flag a waiter down twice to get a coffee refill and ask about our food. And it was 1030am on a Wednesday morning - not exactly a busy time as there were more empty tables than people eating. Just really unimpressed.

Have always loved it but while we had a reservation the waiter complained about how many reservations they had to seat! We had a table near the kitchen where every two minutes they were banging plates so loudly we thought they were breaking them! Food was good. Waiter tried his best. Sad to say

As regular, loyal, visitors to Villa Florence we enjoyed another wonderful Christmas Eve at Kuleto's. We are very sorry to hear that it will be our last as the restaurant is coming to an end. Thank you for years of being one of our top choices to visit.

Respectfully,

It's their last week before closing, so that may be why the food was apparently just "mailed in". The charcuterie board (various "salumi" and cheeses) was disappointing in that so many of the meats were extremely salty and one of the cheeses (I think it may have been Manchejo) The Veal Scallopini, touted by our waitress as a signature dish, was drowning in capers. That was not so horrible as one may easily push them aside, but the first bite tasted of charring. Upon examination, it looked as though the meat medallion has been cleaned up after it's brush with fire. Although I thought the squid-ink noodles were cooked properly, my wife who had ordered the dish based her negative reaction on prior experience with that flavor. Overall, the $242 bill for the five lunches seemed well over-priced considering we'd not splurged on wine or desserts.

The kicker, though, is what I find this evening a couple of days later. In looking at their menus online, I realize that although we were there with a 12:30 PM reservation, they gave us the significantly pricier Dinner menus rather than the Lunch menus. Perhaps we looked like tourists ripe for the picking, but whatever the reason, my main regret now is that there's no way to punish the restaurant's management for what turned out to feel like a major rip-off.

Will not return. We had to wait about 45 min after our reservation time. The first hostess said she would be right back. She never returned. A manager was found. She checked everyone in (line out the door) and left for another 10 - 15 minutes. There were lots of empty tables.

Service was OK. Had to ask for refills on water and soda. My lemon drop was slopped about from the walk over from the bar and left the glass grossly sticky to touch. Food came out quickly and was tasty. However, apparently there isn't a kids' menu or it wasn't offered. We paid $25 a plate for each of our sons' simple pastas (alfredo and marinara). Was shocked at the $200 bill! Of course, this was due to the ridiculous price of our kids' pasta.

If it wasn't Christmas time, we weren't in Union Square and there were other eateries readily available, we would have left when the first hostess went MIA.

We like Daily Grill a block away, but I couldn't get a reservation. Oh well. Lesson learned the expensive way.

Greetings; Every year we stop by Kuleto's after viewing the Christmas Carol .This year we were less than pleased..
We were seated promptly & given menus. 3:45pm.
When the waiter arrived he asked if we wanted cocktails/ starters and if we were ready to order our entrees. Very timid/ non- friendly. He stated the kitchen was to close btw. 4-5pm.
(The waiter did not mention it was Happy Hour, Bring bread, Daily Specials, offer a 2nd drink, coffee or dessert).
In summary: The tradition of dining at your restaurant, Enjoying the food & drink was tarnished!
Our Early Christmas Dinner was less than 40 minutes! We like to savor the moment. Not be rushed!
Before dinner drinks, appetizers, entrees, wine, after dinner drinks, coffee & dessert is our norm.
"There are many Wonderful Restaurants in San Francisco that would love our business."
Just thought you should know.....Not even a "Merry Christmas" from the waiter?

I usually really like Kuletos but this time my meal was not good at all. The waiter barely showed up, the food was not prepared to our request (cooked through salmon), the pasta was not hot and not very good, the restaurant was out of roasted chicken at 8pm and we were virtually ignored. The prices are high at this restaurant and the service and food quality were terrible.
