Sate your hunger at Kula Ranch. This contemporary steakhouse serves Hawaiian-influenced dishes and cocktail in a colorful, island-inspired space. Chef Darrell Rose offers a little of something for everyone with an extensive menu that features appetizers, soups, fresh salads, pasta, pork and chicken dishes. This restaurant also serves grilled dishes and seasonal lunch specials. Menu highlights include the pan-roasted chicken breast, big island fish tacos and kula tossed salad. For a hearty regional treat, try the restaurant's special “Mauka” skirt steak, richly marinated in soy sauce and herbs and served with coconut rice and vegetables.
Kula Ranch is a nice pick for a leisurely outing with friends or colleagues. This restaurant boasts a full-service bar, several TVs where guests can catch up on the game and an outdoor patio. Enjoy the sunset while relaxing and sipping a fruity rum-based cocktail. Kula Ranch is open for lunch and dinner.
Needed more selection of entrées, since they were changing ownership they were limited on selections
All of our meals were subpar. A wedding was going on, no door to close off noise. Felt like we were attending wedding as they had a microphone and dj.
Also mix in the noise from the bar, dining rm and people coming and going and we couldn't hear ourselves think. Similar to playing 3 radio stations at once while trying to hold a conversation.
We don't recommend this place!
Long ago it was country western and nice. Now they aren't sure what they are a Hawaiian ranch? Doesn't work. Decor is confused also.
The food was mediocre and the service was subpar. They delivered our entrees before the appetizer. When we complained, they originally offered to bring it out. We had to ask them to take our entrees back to the kitchen. While we were still eating the appetizer, they tried to serve our entrees. The manager comp'd us a bottle of wine for the mixup, which was a nice gesture, but I wouldn't go back.
I have been to this restaurant several times and previously had good experiences. This time was horrible. It was filthy to begin with. You had to walk through areas of sticky I don't know what. The booth we sat in had food in the grooves and there was food on the floor. We tried to order a few things from the menu that were not available. I ended up getting a soup that was decent except for the long black hair in it. My friend had a pasta that was tasteless. I hope they can get their act together. I seriously doubt that I will return though.
Great food, Great service. Great ambiance.
The restaurant was recommended by the hotel. Hawaiian related steaks generally mean some form of citrus marinate. Tried the skirt steak when they indicated a filet was not available. Well flavored throughout, but would have preferred more of a steak vs fruin taste. Service was ok, but generally I like someone to stop by the table within 5 min or less of my being seated. They weren't that busy when I visited, so not certain. After they did arrive, they were quite helpful on making recommendations and keeping the food coming there after.
Overall, a nice place if you are in the mood for Hawaiian-style steak, just forget about the filet mignon.
When we walked into the resturant the sign said No Sushi tonight, strange for a Sushi restaurant. Half of all the menus provided had white paper cutouts showing that these items were not available. They only had one steak available. They had no shrimp. They had no pork chops. Part of the appetizer menu was not available. Most of our party had to order the Chicken, Shrimp, Vegetable, pasta and cream sauce dish, which contained no shrimp and very little cream sauce. Additionally none of the pasta dishes served had the same amount of ingredients and the sauce was bland.
We will not return to this resturant next time we come back and will not recommend it to any of our relatives who visit this area.
The cocktails and bar were great, but upon being seated in the main restaurant for dinner, you saw all around tables waiting to be helped and no one to help them. They also were out of have the things on their menu, so who knows how good the food could have been.
We went here as a family for Mothers Day. I stated when we arrived that I had a seafood allergy and asked if I could order off the menu as to not be exposed to the contamination on their buffet and the host said after checking with management NO. They suggested I leave and try Dennys down the street.
Dinner was great. My family always loves eating here
Steak was too thin, fish was missing flavor, pork was missing flavor
I had a great dinner experience on Friday 4/15. My birthday.
We were greeted and seated immediately. A very large cozy booth. Then immediately greeted by a lovely waitress. I had very thick pork chops with wonderful terriyaki glazed veggies.
I was treated to a complimentary birthday treat. I enjoyed this place.
It has been a while since I was here. I think the food has improved and the menu offers a better selection for lunch
Nice experience for Valentine's day, however did not know Valentine's day would have a limited menu. Beyond that staff was nice and accommodating. Food was okay.
Busy, lots of tables, interesting atmosphere, nice bar, mediocre to lousy food.
Our Favorite place to eat when we visit Monterey.
Eddie is an awesome server. Drinks and food are amazing.
Loved the Happy hour, would never miss it when my husband and I are staying in the area. They have good selection of pub grub (tapas) like fire roasted artichoke, piggy fries, sweet potato fries, nachos, sliders, special sushi, chicken wings, quesadilla and you should just try everything. I would recommend the Pupu platter. And beer, wines for only $4 and mixed drinks for $8. Also recommended, the kula kolossal burger steak sandwich, yummy!!
We also have sat in their dining room area for a formal meal, the food is okay. But their crème brulee is creamy and good. I loved it! Overall, I liked the pub foods and the ambiance in the pub area better.
Excellent dining experience. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and promptly seated . Our waiter provided excellent and attentive service throughout the evening. Our steak dinners were cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend Kula Ranch as we had a very enjoyable evening.
Average meal $20/person
Pros: The tri-tip was delicious! the kids' sliders were so good my son didn't need a condiment and the side of fruit was ripe and sweet. Our server was as friendly as he could be. The spicy tuna roll was delicious
Cons: the stuffed mushroom caps were at minimum a severe disappointment. 5 tiny caps for $13. We sent it back. Our server was swamped. He had to cater to most of the tables in the restaurant, so the service did suffer.
All in all the experience was OK, but at that price point we won't be returning
We had an early supper here after a movie at the new Marina Cinema. The menu is varied, the service good and the atmosphere quiet. I had the artichoke appetizer and the pork chop dinner. Very good and piping hot! Generous serving, I brought half home.
A disappointing visit to a favorite local restaurant. The food was excellent, as always, although we mourn the demise of the Angry Camerones sushi roll, but the service left much to be desired. From the lengthy wait for the hostess to show up to seat us, to our appetizer being cleared before we’d finished eating, to having to ask where my wife’s food was almost 10 minutes after mine was served (server forgot to get it from the sushi bar), to never being asked if we wanted our drinks refilled – the entire evening left us less than satisfied and reluctant to make a return visit.
Nice local spot with diverse menu - everything from pizza to sushi.
Had a reservation and when we arrived three girls were standing and taking at the reception desk. Instead of greeting us and asking if we had a reservation one hostess said we'll be with you in a minute. We waited while they continued to talk for a few more minutes. Finally when they finished we were asked if we had a reservation and seated. The waiter took the order quickly. After the food was served he vanished until we were finished. I had to flag down the manager in order to get dressing for the salad. The food was uninspired and the portions small. I would have returned if the waiter had given decent service. Overall I would not recommend this place.
First of all the service was great. I had never been ask to check your steak for the right consistency, really nice and everyone enjoyed there food. I will go back.
Probably the worst food I have had to suffer through in the long time. Also the worst service I've ever had. All of the food was low quality and our server was never anywhere to be found. It took roughly 15 minutes to receive a cocktail and that's only after you track her down. By the end of the night I was just ordering straight from the bar. It's unfortunate that this place is so terrible because The Sanctuary Beach Resort that it shares a property with is so amazing, the only thing missing is the food.
They ran out of food. Muffins on the dessert table?! Strange, and unappealing menu items. It was rather apparent that they had little to no experience in the Holiday Brunch area. Should practice with regular Sunday brunches neglecting on a major brunch holiday. Only gave one star rating because it wouldn't allow me to give none.
Brunch was good but the restaurant did not deliver what was advertised. There was no Mexican Station on the brunch buffet for Mother's Day as advertised. The dessert selection was also not what was advertised. There were no cheesecake, or a wide assortment of dessert. There was a dry red velvet cake, pineapple cake, and assorted muffins.
My rib eye had no flavor. My husband's prime rib was super chewy, not of good quality. We spent 91$ on our food and was not satisfied at all. We had reservations unlike many others and was seated towards the front near cash register and a main walk way so there was no privacy. It wasn't a good experience
After seeing some of the previous reviews we almost opted to not go here for dinner. So happy I decided to try it anyways. We had a private booth, great service and a wonderful meal. My boyfriend had the skirt steak and coconut rice. The steak was tender and very flavorful and the rice was outstanding. I had a chicken fettuccini dish that was wonderful as well. The cocktails are well poured and the waiter Eddie was perfectly attentive. We enjoyed our dinner and would definitely return on future travels.
Decent for hotel food, but I wouldn't go back unless I had no other options.
We are locals, been here many timed before, so we brought our out-of-state houseguest here for dinner.
We were seated, picked out our food and still waited another 10 minutes before a server came to take our drink order! Then it took us another 20 minutes to get our drinks. Our food took about another 40 to get. And let's not talk about the check. On a good note, the pupu platter was great and we loved the artichoke appetizer.
The food was okay. Kind of loud. Perhaps some capeting would help. Service started out nice but as it got busier we saw less and less of her. Will go again but not our #1 choice in Marina.
Kula Ranch never fails when we have a special occassion. We had a wonderful time having the small bites at happy hour watching the sunset and then rolled it right into our dinner. The Mahi Mahi is delicious! Excellent service.
THis is always a favorite. I love the fun atmosphere and delicious food. The drinks are generous. The service is always impecable. They always manage to make me feel special even on a busy night like tonight. The restaurant was totally slammed, but the staff kept their composure and made us feel like the center of attention. Well done...as always!
OK, it was on valentines night so I will give them credit for a busy busy night but I thought the food was just fair the coconut rice was way to sweet and the other dishes were fair with large portions. The service was fair, The appetizers were pretty good.
The food was excellent but the service was a bit slow and it seemed like our server had far too many tables that were too far from everything else to keep it efficient. There was a singer making the rounds to sing for people which at times was a bit too loud for those not wanting to hear the songs. Overall this is a great place for great food and if you are in a group who wants to relax and enjoy one another in a casual setting, this is the perfect restaurant.
Service was sluggish and fairly inattentive all night.
They were out of the Bone-in Rib Eye on the menu - my first choice.
Entrée veggies were cold. Stuffed baked potato was lukewarm and obviously reheated - at least once. NY Strip was average at best.
Plenty of better restaurants in the area.
I go for a sit down meal here at least once a year to see if anything has gotten better. The location is great for us, half way between Monterey, Salinas, Prunedale, but they just can't seem to get it right. I reserved a booth two days in advance and got a table. We were seated and it took me asking a random waiter if we could order a drink before anyone paid any attention to us, that took 15 minutes. Once they assigned us a server it was good going from there. She was fantastic, very attentive and gave us great service. The food was ok, steaks were medium as opposed to rare, but what can you do? They need to jazz up the menu, or at least make it more consistent. I do have to say that the bar area is always great with good service, good drinks and good appetizers, the rest, still seems to be looking for an identity. Will go back again in a year, hoping for better results, once again.
Took my son to dinner on a Sunday night. The Hawaiian theme was not attractively done, but the restaurant seemed clean. The bamboo and grass décor was tacky. The restaurant colors weren't done well. The menu was vast and bound in lots of plastic. Ick.
We sat in a booth. I like sitting in a booth, but I'm big and accustomed to that sort of seating being a little tight and a little difficult to maneuver in and out of. These booths were TIGHT. The restaurant was noisy. Lots of people in the bar. And a screaming child.
We ordered the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. They were tasty, but a bit greasy. I think too much parmesan, and the stuffing slid out of the mushrooms. We had soup, which was delicious and hot. My son ordered the fish tacos for dinner. He thought it was tasty. It was served with black beans. A lot of black beans. I ordered a steak. It was delicious, not too fatty and cooked just how I liked it. They accommodated for my need to avoid soy and teriyaki and made my veggies just plain steamed. Maybe just slightly underdone, but nice.
Our server was very attentive, as were a couple other servers who checked on us as they walked by. We were greeted well when we arrived and wished well as we left.
I thought the meal was priced accordingly.
