The Kula Lodge has been a favorite of both visitors and Maui residents for great dining and great meals and breathtaking views of Maui. Perched high above the green hills of Kula on the Valley Island of Maui, the Kula Lodge and Restaurant is a comfortable place to relax on the way back from Haleakala, Hana or Maui's Ulupalakua Winery. Arriving from the other direction, the Kula Lodge is a gateway to rich scenery of Upcountry Maui, as wonderful place to meet or treat your friends and the only full-service bar in Kula.

The restaurant seats up to one hundred and fifty guests, with a very special outdoor area. Cradled in the trees at more than three-thousand feet, the Kula Lodge Garden Terrace features a wood-burning pizza oven and an open view of the entire west side of Maui. This is the perfect place to bring a hungry family for a sunset spectacular that will be remembered for a lifetime.

The view and sunset are amazing! The wood fired pizza was delicious as was our fresh salad filled with crunchy veggies. We sipped our drinks and enjoyed the wonderful ambiance by the fireplace after dinner while enjoying some familiar tunes by a wonderful piano player. We absolutely loved our experience here! Highly recommend this restaurant for a lovely relaxing evening.

The food is excellent, but somewhat overpriced for what you get. I got ribs that came with garlic fries and grilled root vegetables. The fries were very tasty but not exceptional; same for the ribs, which were smothered in a salsa. A dining companion got prime rib, which was good, but not $42 worth of good. You are paying for the ambiance, which includes a spectacular view over the central Maui valley and the gardens surrounding the restaurant. Go for lunch when the prices are more reasonable, not dinner.

We enjoyed our food, our server, and the view. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed that the Kula Lodge has started adding a 3% "kitchen service fee to the bill without any advanced notice. I was at this restaurant in December and this charge wasn't on the bill. Our waitress commented that many clients are upset about it and that they deduct the charge from her tip. If the restaurant thinks their kitchen staff needs to make more money they should increase their salaries. I wrote to the restaurant after our visit, but never received a reply!

We were greeted warmly by the host and hostess. We were seated at a corner table with views of the grounds and the West Maui mountains. Our drinks were modest and modestly priced. We were able to relax at our own pace. Our salads were spectacular. Ample, a great mix of greens, and lightly dressed. But, when the entrees arrived, the Macadamia coating on the Mahi-mahi was scorched, and the porcini coating on the snapper was scorched. I had eaten part of my snapper when I realized that the crunch didn’t add any flavor.
It’s a long drive up the mountain for dinner. We tried it once.

We had fond memories of staying and dining there but the restaurant was a letdown this time. When we made our reservation I notified them that it was our anniversary, as they requested, but no acknowledgment when we were there. Someone else seated themselves at what was supposed to be our table, although we still had a great view. Ordered prime rib rare and it was served completely gray inside and out. They did substitute a filet, which was delicious and my husband enjoyed his meal. Great live music at just the right volume!

We have eaten there several times and have loved it. However this experience was horrible. We stood at the desk over five minutes before someone came to seat us. The bartender actually suggested we sit in front of the fireplace while we waited. Restaurant at 8 io'clock was not very busy. We were greeted with, " we are out of both the fish items and only have one more order of prime rib. " When I asked about their delicious pizzas I was told they don't serve after 6. Probably will not return.

Had an early reservation at Kula Lodge and Restaurant. Beautiful view of Central Valley and both coasts from dining room. Dinner was just excellent - had the coconut shrimp appetizer, salad, pork and pineapple pizza, and the chocolate cake dessert. All were delicious - service was excellent! We will definitely return to Kula Lodge and Restaurant!

Arrived early so we took a visit to the marketplace for shopping. Neat things including Hawaiian placemats, napkins, towels, quilts, pillows along with kids items, market for groceries, etc. were seated at the window to overlook all of central Maui, Lana’i to watch the sunset. Service was prompt, kind and professional. We only had flatbread and French onion soup. The focacia bread was outstanding. We took home pineapple upside down cake and lilikoilime pie.

We may have hit them on an off night but we waited over an hour past when a nice restaurant would have had food out. So that ruined the experience for us. They did comp one of the steaks so that was nice. The food was good and if ever in area again we might try them again. If the same thing happened twice would never go back. They were not crowded and we were one of the first tables of diners.

We were excited about our second visit to this restaurant during our vacation. When we arrived we found we would have a limited menu due to staffing. We were hoping to have the onion rings for an appetizer, the best we have had on the island. It was not on the menu and when our server asked if they could be made we herd the chef say he was not going to make the batter. Very disappointing. Our server and the bar tender were excellent. If they are open when we return we will be back.

The lodge is little outdated and old. Didn't matter, perfect view of the sunset going down over Maui.

The appetizers where good and tasty. My wife and I ordered the fish specials. Hers was great! Mine chewy. When I looked carefully, the kitchen didn't cook it. I mean raw!!

The reason I give this restaurant a good review is that the waitress was horrified. Took back the dinner, got me new different food fast, comped my meal and gave us dessert. The manager came Over and apologized for the kitchen

Everyone has a bad day (or evening). Takes a lot to acknowledge it and make it work.

We'll be back, hopefully for a better meal. Kudos for the great customer service.

Daughters 16th birthday but no one acknowledged it. Mentioned when I made reservation. Took us 15 minutes to be seated - one server and one person seating people. 25 minutes to get a drink. Food was awesome and sunset outstanding ( should shorten smoke stack on pizza oven outside kind of blocks the view).

Service was excellent. Mike, the manager, is always very personable, sincere and very accommodating. Due to the rainy weather he went out of his way to assist customers to their car with an umbrella to keep them dry. What service!!!!! Even with a new chef, the food was excellent. Our waiter was very courteous. Francois who plays keyboard is such wonderful to listen to and plays with such skill song requests from customers. Ambience wonderful-felt warm with fireplace on.

First time to eat at this restaurant. My first impression was that it was rustic with beautiful views! Our friends have recommended us to eat here. We were not disappointed. Our drinks, especially the mai tai was my husband’s favorite. Our meal was delicious and the waiter was attentive to our needs. Excellent restaurant deserving 5 stars!

Stunning dining room with a great view. It's fairly well maintained, though the interior is a bit dated. The food was average - we had the crab cake appetizer followed by the short rib entree. The menu seemed way too large to execute well and also it had a rather small section of things that were locally sourced - which is a pity because you pass so many farms and ranches on the way to the restaurant! The service was polite but our waitress' knowledge of the menu and the ingredients is various dishes was a bit lacking. The drinks were average as well.
The view, oh what a view. Just for the view I'd go here again which is a pity because it doesn't really incentivize them to improve the food. But I hope they improve the food and shorten the menu. And I hope I'll be back.

Kula Lodge is a terrific destination on the way up or the way down from Haleakala crater. The food is very good and there is much variety. Before 6pm the wood fired pizza oven is open and cooking. We tried a terrific pizza for four and it was great. We shared a number of other dishes and enjoyed it all. Enjoy

Great food, great service, AWESOME view of the Maui valley. I can't say enough about this place it is one of the best on Maui. My waitress was the best and attended to my needs very well. The view is so awesome they even have an outside viewing deck where you can take pictures of the valley. Most ingredients in the food are local to Maui. The vegetables grown closeby were just so fresh and full of taste. Make sure you visit upcountry Maui and eat at this place!!

Pizzas were good, but nothing to rave about. The crust was good but the pizza sauce was fairly boring. The service was very good - they were nice and quick to respond to our requests. The setting is amazing. The views down the mountainside are beautiful, and the gardens are a treat you’ll want to plan around. Make sure you get there with enough time and daylight to wander.

I made this reservations at the beginning of the week through OpenTable and requested the corner table to the left of the restaurant for 5:45. I called yesterday (the day before res.) to confirm that we would get the corner table that I had requested on OpenTable app, and I was told by the host “yes, we have that table for you”. We got to restaurant 10 minutes earlier then the reservation and was expecting to be seated at the table I requested but the table was given to someone else, 5 minutes before we arrived. We were seated at the “last front table” per the host, but even that was a dud because it was sunset so all the tourists went outside on the deck that was in front of our table and we couldn’t even see the sunset.
We’re upset because it was our anniversary of when my husband asked me to marry him at that corner table at Kula Lodge. Food is subpar, prime rib my husband ordered was served medium well when he asked for medium rare, my scallops pasta was bland except for the scallops themselves which were cooked perfectly. We used to live up in Kula and would eat dinner and breakfast there all the time and its definitely not the same. Don’t know if we’ll ever be back.
