Kula Lodge & Restaurant, Inc. Ratings and Reviews
We were celebrating our engagement. We were sat at a nice table but put in between a party of 3 being rude and speaking disrespectfully about any and everything. Moments later another party of 3 with a young child(who was quite noisy) was seated on the other side of us. We felt trapped. Our server was excellent! I applaud her efforts to do the best she could for the circumstance as it was.
My parents are in town so we spent the afternoon at the Ocean Distillery and the Surfing Goat Dairy, then to Kula Lodge for dinner. The view is spectacular! You can see the entire central part of the island and the west side volcano. The garden is gorgeous and well maintained.
My dad ordered the scampi, my mom the ribs and I the ribeye. My meal was by far the best, cooked medium to perfection and so incredibly tender. My parents were both happy with their meals as well. The shrimp were sweet and juicy and the rib meat was moist and fell off the bones.
Joy was our server. She was incredibly sweet and attentive!
Beautiful upcountry Maui location, amazing view, good if not super creative food, great serving staff, but why the fire in the fireplace? The owners are trying to evoke a hunting-lodge atmosphere, but it makes the dining room 80° and smoky. Definitely detracted from the experience for our party. Would much rather have sat in the funky outdoor garden seating but it was not open. Oh, and the prices are pretty high even for Maui, but it makes a good stop on the way back from Haleakala.
The restaurant staff was very accommodating. We requested salads, pizzas, and main entrees to be served all at once and they did a great job getting it all out together. Every dish was delicious! Their desserts are also very delicious, the chocolate banana cream pie is to die for!
This restaurant is on the way to Haleakala in the Maui "upcountry" with fabulous views to the north. But the great views pale in comparison with the food. The chef is remarkably creative with a very simple menu offering from pizza to elegantly prepared and presented fresh fish. A little pricey but worth every penny. I'll be going back for breakfast
Excellent food, service is great with very polite and friendly staff. My husband and I love the ambiance there. It is quaint with a homey feel because it has a waiting area with a fireplace. It sits high on the side of a mountain with a beautiful view of the city. It was a spectacular sunset while we enjoyed our drinks and dinner. We also had a chance to view the beautiful garden in the back of the restaurant. What an experience and we will definitely return.
Wasn't the same as before. Seafood wasn't seasoned well ,not enough flavor and didn't come with what was on the menu. Prime rib had some kind of gravy on it? Didn't get dinner bread. Been there many times before even had a wedding there , back when the food was good.
Fairly slow when we arrived at 8pm. Place smelled musty. Service was slow and awkward - our server spent a lot of time talking to a table about another bar to go to, exchanged phone numbers and only seemed to occasionally realize that he should check in with us.
After being told that we couldn't order pizza because they stop at 8 (it was 8 when we arrived and they only seat people until 8:30 - why not just serve pizza the whole time? ), we opted for salads which were decent but small and pricey. $6 to add on what was at most a 4 ounce chicken "breast" to an already $14 salad.
Too bad Kula Bistro was too busy to seat us; this place was a major disappointment.
We have been there many times for lunch and it was great. Don't know what went wrong on Easter but it was a disaster. 90 minutes before food arrived and then not all of it came. Our server James was most accommodating. He gets five stars. It certainly gave us an Easter to remember.
Monchong fish and spare ribs we had were nicely prepared and delicious. Enjoyed the mushroom appetizer and the house-specialty warm pineapple upside down cake. After a week vacationing on the island, James was the best server we encountered! Nice last meal on the island before heading 30 minutes downhill to the airport.
The food was fabulous, steak done just right, and the vegetables crunchy. The server Michael, however, seemed nice, but very forgetful, as we were 3/4 finished the meal before he remembered our wine (when we reminded another server), never filled our water glasses, never came back to check our meal, and then brought us a free chocolate cake to "apologize". As we don't live here, it's not a problem with us, but our friends who live here were not impressed, and I'm sure will pass it around. If you get Michael as a server, ask for someone else, and you will have a wonderful meal.
Great food with an amazing view. If you are ever on Maui and visiting Haleakala, this is worth the stop on the way down to watch the sun set over the western side of the island. Absolutely amazing view, friendly staff, great and creative food, quaint atmosphere ... a real gem. We visited 18 years earlier and never forgot this place. We were thrilled on this visit to see it was still here, and as good as it was previously. Hopefully we'll be back in the future.
This is a great place to eat. Food is very good. They make great wood fired oven pizza and a delicious kiawe smoked prime rib. Wonderful baked brie and shrimp appetizers. This place is definitely worth the drive up the volcano. Wonderful food, wonderful service, and amazing views.
I had two different noise experiences. There were few people at dinner (7 pm), perhaps because with the heavy rains the views would be negligible, and it was quiet in the dining room. The food is good and very expensive; it's the views and ambiance that draw people here. Breakfast was crowded and noisy because this is a popular spot for people who have ventured to Haleakala for the sunrise tour.
I have eaten here a few times before without a problem. I'm sad to say the food and service has greatly declined. Firstly, the dinner hours on their website do not match the dinner hours at the restaurant. The restaurant should not allow reservations on this website to be made when the restaurant is closed. They were "out" of about a third of the menu items, including not wanting to start the pizza oven for which they are well known. The waitress was new and had no clue of what she was doing with her trainers being no help. I have a lot of patience for this sort of thing, but when we are the only patrons in the restaurant and all these incidents arose, the manager should have shown his/her face and apologized. Maui has a lot of eateries, I won't waste my limited vacation time here again.
