Kukui's Restaurant at Kalapaki Beach Ratings and Reviews
Kukui’s is located at the Westin Princeville Resort Villas, Kaui, Hawaii. We enjoyed the atmosphere and excellant dishes. Our server, Matt, made our experience even better with great unrushed service and personality. The main dishes we had were Salmon with crab for my spouse and beef tenderloin for me.
Both were plated attractively, prepared well and served promptly in great timing after drinks etc.
Noise level fairly high with happy groups of vacationers all around, but not oppressive.
If oare in Princevill area make a reservation and enjoy!
Great place for drinks by the pool but go elsewhere for dinner. Had Thanksgiving menu and ordered the prime rib—meat was so tough I had a tough time cutting and even tougher time chewing. Salad/soup bar had very mediocre selections and the dessert tasted like it came from a discount grocery store. Service was friendly, however.
Comments based on Sunday brunch buffet. Great choices of the usual and not-so-usual items all delicious. Free-flowing sparkling wine for added cost makes it even better and the poolside or partial ocean view can be good too. Less than perfect due to only having 1 chef working the omelette/waffle station and lots of people to serve (only other restaurant for the large property is a small cafe) though to her credit, she did a great job. But one person can only do so much. Also, despite having Open Table reservations, all who arrived were seated on a first come basis. Waiting 17 minutes for a table literally beside the check-in podium which, like many others, had been empty all along, shows a real problem with the front-of-house. Irritation does not begin to describe it when the buffet stops at 12 and we had a flight to catch but wound-up wasting that time. Once sat however, things were great but those first endless minutes should never have happened. Gaylord's, a few miles away, is not only lower cost but they actually honor reservations.
If you are just here for a free drink from Marriott, great. But if you actually want to enjoy dinner go somewhere else. My wife and I ate here on 08/18/17 and was not impressed with the food and the service.First of all, the hostess was also very slow to seat us despite having an Open Table reservation. Second of all they do not have any gluten free options other than a basic salad. Do not be deceived by the gluten free flat breads, because there is no meat to eat it with (all meats have gluten). The chicken I ordered took 1 hour and was very dry and tasteless. I could have gotten a better meal from the Deli section at Safeway or Foodland.
Service was great; Sunday BBQ buffet was mediocre. Salad bar was what you would expect, the main course choices were fair. The ribs weren't very tender. The steak was good and cooked medium rare for the most part. Didn't try the chicken, as it looked unappetizing. The deserts were sad. The cake looked terrible and the blueberry cheese cake seemed to be entirely missing the "cheese" component. I will give the apple cobbler an ok vote. Our waiter was kind enough to pull a piece of regular cheese cake from the standard menu. The crust on that was great, the guava jelly topping....well, what can I say?
We had a wonderful meal here on the 4th of July! It was our chosen last dining experience on our Hawaiian vacation! After dinner we went and sat on the beach and watched the sunset before we headed to our departure flight. The live music was great, the service was awesome, the food was scrumptious! Couldn't have ended our vacation on a better note!
We gathered to celebrate Father's Day. Our initial 18 count became 12. The friendly staff accommodated the change.
Amelia our waitress was attentive and full of Aloha. She made our dining experience pleasant.
The selection of food was great for us. The kids enjoyed the Nutella & dessert bar.
Love the view of the pool & beach.
We will be back to celebrate another special occasion.
On Tuesday and Friday evening there is a price-fix special for $33: prime rib, fresh fish or chicken and special wines: one in each color for $9.99/ It was so good on the Tuesday that we went, we came back on Friday. The prime rib is EXCELLENT and the $9.99 special red wine that we chose on Tuesday usually sells for $40 and was delicious. The salad bar is FRESH. The environment is casual (by the pool) but lovely. Even if you are not staying at the Marriot, it's worth coming to Kukui for dinner. especially on those 2 nights.
Staying at the hotel, so went to this restaurant because it was convenient. Service was slow and spotty. Waitress was nice when she attended to us but we had a lot of long waits. Took a long time to get our wine. Salad and soup bar was good, entrees OK. Price was a little high.
The food is wonderful with lots of fresh island fruits and juices as well as an assortment of fried rice, bacon, sausages, eggs benedict, waffles, etc. There is also a wonderful omelette bar where a chef will custom make you your omelette!!!
I had called ahead to make reservations with a special request as my sister-in-law had had both of her knees operated on and asked that the five of us be seated close to the food. Mia, the hostess, was outstanding in greeting us and leading us to the table closest to the food!!! We were served by Nancy, who provided great service throughout the meal!!!
At $28.95 per person, it is a fairly pricey breakfast meal, but well worth it for the great food, wonderful service and wonderful atmosphere!!!
Wonderful Sunday brunch. Huge selection of island specialties as well as the standard brunch expectations. Omlet bar, waffle bar in addition to many other egg dishes in the buffet line. Price might seem high but selection was well worth it. Also included milk, coffee and fresh juices!
The buffet had a great selection, the food was delicious, the staff was kind & helpful.
The valet offered & drove one of our party, who had a hard time walking, from the front of the hotel to the Restaurant. Great customer service!
Bonus, the view is a treat
Our server was wonderful, the food was delicious. My complaint is that we had a reservation for 5:30 and were not seated until after 6:00 pm. Other people were waiting as well and were not happy about it. When I made the reservation it was stated that if we were late the reservation would be cancelled, but apparently it was all right to keep us waiting. The restaurant did not appear busy at that time, either, unless it was understaffed. If that had been the case, then maybe they shouldn't take reservations at that time. Thank goodness we had an excellent server and good food.
Food choices were good....prices appeared fair....until we rec'd our plates. Each roll was roughly half what we expected. For a party of 5, we ordered one each of the rolls, which I believe were 9. It wasn't enough, and we had to order more. We had also ordered 2 "starter" plates.
