KRES CHOPHOUSE Ratings and Reviews
My parents were visiting from our of town and I wanted to show them something special. Kres delivered just that, without question. All of the entrees we ordered (elk, veal, and duck) were absolutely delicious, as were the starters. James, our server, was exceptionally attentive and very descriptive with selecting items from the menu. The desserts were out-of-this-world as well. Thanks again, Kres, for making this experience so wonderful.
I dined at Kres last year for my birthday and had a really special experience. One week before our reservation this year we were called about a seating request, the host cheerfully mentioned - I see you will be celebrating a birthday! On arrival for our reservation the host noted our seating request (also in the notes it mentions a birthday) however our server clearly did not know we were there for a birthday celebration because nothing was mentioned about it throughout the meal. What made this a bit of a sore spot was due to the couple directly behind us celebrating a birthday. We know this because we were constantly hearing their server say "happy birthday, because it's your birthday, you can do whatever you want, it's your birthday!" At one point, we even heard the server off to the side speaking with a manager about something he did for this couple because it was his birthday. Overall, the food was solid (as usual) and the server was competent and friendly, unfortunately we went away from this dining experience feeling a little underwhelmed.
We were downtown for an OC Soccer match and had an early dinner. Service was fantastic and the variety of food was impressive. The recommended lamb ribs appetizer was delicious and the Elk Loin was a great main course. All meals were cooked to the requested temperature. The meal was not inexpensive but the value for a high end chop house was evident.
Very friendly and cozy atmosphere. Food is good and portions were adequate. Food taste and preparedness were not all that great. My date had a 12 oz lobster tail at $8.00 per ounce. It was very overcooked, tough and chewy. She had to borrow my steak knife to cut the lobster. Also I had the ribeye which was good but also overcooked. All in all, I was not overly impressed. There are several other of the local "fine dining" establishments I would patronize before I would venture back here.
I really liked the restaurant. I would suggest they give better guidance for parking while making a reservation. I parked nearby in a sketchy area only to find out they have a valet. The server was very friendly and guided us on choices. He however mishandled an older wine I brought with me. He decanted it improperly then swirled it around like a milk shake. Clearly didn't know why he was doing. Overall we had fun though.
Fantastic food, service plus, we were seated at my favorite table...the front window table on Church Street! If you are in the mood for a delicious perfectly prepared steak, this is the place, but the fish is perfect, as well!! Everyone in our group left happy!!
There are much better Steak Houses out there. And I would go to one of them. This place was hyped with great reviews. Everything was good but nothing great or outstanding. The Filet Wellington was served cold. Escargot was good but I've had better. My friend was underwhelmed with his filet and elk combination. For a good steak go to Linda's La Cantina or somewhere else. Disappointing. Our server was excellent.
Wonderful experience. Russell, our server, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. He was attentive, but not too "in your face." I had the Filet Wellington, my husband had the 12 oz filet, blue rare, and we shared the shrimp and bacon mac and cheese. Every bite was delicious. He had the Kres version of an old fashioned, which was good, but unique. I had a Sazerac, which was made in the perfectly classic style.
The venue is really nice. Tall ceilings with great colors. The food is exceptional. We started with lamb ribs and oyster Rockefeller. Both delicious. We the veal chop and filet for dinner with excellent brussel sprouts. Here's the service difference. The waiter informed us that there was a delay because the filet was not cooked to specification. They not only re cooked the filet but my veal chop was re-cooked. It was perfection. After bringing the meals the waiter offered a free drink to us for the delay. We declined. When we got our bill they had removed two of the drinks that we had already ordered. I haven't had this attention to detail and this level of a dining experience for a very long time. My hats off to good old fashioned caring for the customer. We'll be back.
Simply delicious!! First time at Kres Chophouse, but it won't be our last. We loved the Shrimp Cocktail and Lobster Bisque for starters. My husband had the Elk & Beef filet combo which was delicious! I enjoyed the Filet Wellington, it was just wonderful. It was a real value compared to some of the other steak houses we enjoy. Only downside was $8.00 to valet the car!
We love this restaurant and come for lunch every time we are in town. The ambiance is really nice and relaxing, the service is excellent, and the food is consistently fabulous. Everything is high-quality. Kres would be a great place for lunch or dinner anytime, for a nice meal or for special occasion.
This was my first time dining here. I had no idea what they specialized in. We selected the restaurant because it is in walking distance to the Dr. Philip's Center and the menu looked good. The food was great. I especially loved the Spinach Salad starter. Our waiter was friendly, efficient and great with making suggestions. I will definitely frequent this restaurant when in the area, particularly before shows at the DPC.
This was our first visit to Kress and we were quite impressed! We were seated promptly and allowed time to catch up with friends while choosing our meal. The Caesar salad was recommended and it didn't disapoint. Other guests chose the Grouper special, a seafood pasta dish and of course the crispy Brussel sprouts to share. All meals were tasty and creatively plated. My lobster bisque could have been warmer, but it was creamy with small shreds of lobster. We plan to return!
