Sushi rice was terrible. Fish was okay. Lovely restaurant interior.
Yes, I'd recommend Kouzan, but it's a lukewarm recommendation. If you don't mind a TV in the corner, annoying computer screens visible from every seat in the room, & pop music, you could go there. (It's a shame, because the ambience would be lovely without these things. They even have a sort of waterfall -- but it's right near a glowing digital computer screen.) The food is very good.
Very nice restaurant. Good ambience, lovely setting, great service. Food was a bit of a disappointment. Tempura tasted oily, salmon over done. Soup and rolls were good.
Best Japanese food in the world
Sushi just ok. Good service, nice place and good pricing, but average at best.
My favorite neighborhood restaurant. The very best sashimi. I also love the ohshitaski, honey duck, dumplings- all of it. Place is comfortable and the service is totally pleasant.
Really great sushi and quick service.
Very tasty food and nice environment. Definitely go for the grilled black cod. Sushi is also delicious!
Really disappointing food, but decent service.
Delicious Food. Great service. Expansive menu of dumplings and sushi. My teens and friends loved it. Pretty restaurant. Very reasonable.
We have been there multiple times and it never disappoints. Love the sushi...the freshness and the variety.
Disappointing....reviews of food and price were inaccurate. Food was adequate and prices were high...
Service was excellent, though there were 3 tables if two people each when we were there
Delicious , as usual. And such friendly service.
Kouzan is one of my favorite go-to sushi/japanese restaurants - very fresh fish, extensive menu, wonderful cocktails. The only drawback is that even though it is quite a large restaurant, they tend to seat everyone very close together. The tables are very close together- almost Parisian style - and when so many tables are full it is cumbersome to both get in/out and VERY NOISY - and unnecessary. But food is fabulous. service great - just request a quieter table!
A good lunch. I've noticed the size of the suchi rolls varies quite a bit, depending on which chef is on duty. This time, they were on the more genrous side. They're always fresh, but sometimes huge and other times modestly sized. Consistency could help.
This restaurant had the best Japanese food in New York City!
I usually love this restaurant, but for some reason it was PACKED with nosiy little children and strollers. Many kids plunged their hands into the goldfish pond; neither staff nor parents disciplined them. Made for a very annoying lunch.
We don't often go to that part of Manhattan but this was a perfect spot for a pre-show at Symphony Space. Great variety to the menu for sushi and non-sushi diners alike. The service was excellent.
The beef teriyaki was not served hot. It appeared to have been set aside while my partner's meal was being prepared. I did not want to send it back and have it return overcooked. Fortunately, the cool beef was tender and tasty.
Great neighborhood find. The food is delicious and background music is nice jazz.
Great food at reasonable nyc prices!
Tables are a little close
Kouzan is wonderful...excellent quality and wonderful service always!
This is a good place if you enjoy having a conversation over dinner. Pleasant and attentive staff, and tasty offerings at a decent value. Convenient to Symphony Space too.
Food was delicious and service was wonderful! We made a reservation for 7:30 but our flight came in late. They were still able to accommodate us that night. Very smooth and will come back next time we are in the city
Excellent as always
Great sushi and amazing shrimp tempura! Service was fast and attentive and the menu had all our Japanese favourites
Kouzan never disappoints. The food is fresh, reasonably priced and the bartender makes the best mojitos in the city. Also, the background jazz is soothing without being invasive. Great neighborhood option for excellent sushi and other Japanese options.
Excellent food and service! The food we ordered was well prepared and presented. The staff is informative and gracious.
This was our first time to Kouzan and we have the following comments:
- The interior is nicely done in the first room, but since we did not see the second room we cannot comment.
-The food was delicious, but was served too fast.
-Poor Service!! I was not finished with my salad and miso soup when our main dishes were served. This should never happen in a restaurant. If they want to keep a good reputation they should be mindful of how to put in the first course and then main course. This was very off putting having my main dish served and left on the table while I finished my salad and soup.
- We will not be returning to this restaurant.
Very fine fish dishes, fine attentive service, Tempura could be crisper.
the restaurant was very busy-it was Christmas and there were only a few restaurants open in the neighborhood. the staff was clearly overwhelmed with the crowds. it took nearly 20 minutes to have our drink orders taken.
We decided to order our meal at the same time since we didn't know whether we would see our waitress again. the sushi was very good. The chicken teriyaki and beef negimaki were only average. the place is very casual and comfortable. Definitely a nice place for families.
Best sushi around. Excellent drinks. Love it
Food is low quality! Noodle soup is tasteless, chicken is bland! Fried food is ok! Nowhere close to being a quality Japanese restaurant! Not sure how this place is getting more than 1 star!
Imitation Japanese food, bland and tasteless.
The staff at Kouzan are friendly, helpful, and responsive. The sushi is fresh and the kitchen entrees well prepared.
Great spot for some quality Japanese food, at reasonable price. Quick, no-nonsense service and the food comes out equally quickly and fresh.
Highly recommend their peanut-avocado roll, vegetable soup and brown-rice green tea!
