Flying Fish Roe
with asparagus, mixed green in miso dressing
I like this restaurant, but my last visit was slightly disappointing. The salmon in the maki and avocado was fatty and the yellowtail with scallion tasted fishy. Maybe it's not a good idea to go on a Monday...
The menu is extensive and everything is delicious. Ambience good. I choose it as my go to Japanese Restaurant in the UWS.
Fun with friends
One of our "go to" Japanese restaurants on the Upper West Side. I usually have sashimi, but this time I had a light meal - mushroom soup and avocado salad. Both were spectacular. One of the nice things about the place is that the noise level at dinner is tolerable. If you are on the Upper West Side, try it out - you won;t be disappointed.
My favorite Westside Japanese restaurant!
Always a lovely experience at Kouzan. The staff could not be more accommodating. And the sushi is terrific.
meh. weird portions: teriaki too much; chirashi too little.
Terrible place for a date. The sushi is totally replaceable, the drinking culture is borderline non-existent, and the service was lacking.
Always a great local spot. Yum!
Consistently good meals.
It's my favorite neighborhood place on the UWS! Sashimi is always fresh and bento box with salmon is a great value.
It is great having a wonderful Japanese restaurant on the upper Westside. The fish is very fresh.
Very dependable. Nice staff. Quiet, so you can actually talk.
I don't know how it is that although I've lived in the neighborhood for MANY years, I had missed Kouzan! What a pleasant dining experience: a large space broken up into seemingly distinct sections and a very manageable noise level--such a gift in NYC! In addition, the service was unobtrusive and the food was very good. And reasonably priced since you could order from an extensive menu, choosing small plates or a full Bento box. Something for everyone.
Kouzan has been added to my short list of go-to UWS dependable eateries!
met een groep van 10 collegas hier heerlijke verse sushi gegeten!!! Weg uit de toeristen zone, leuk ingericht sushi restaurant, we zaten alleen op een beetje een tochtige plek als de deur open en dicht ging. Verder super lekker gegeten!!!
Service was fine in a pleasant atmosphere but the food was lacking. The rolls were sloppily presented and fell apart when picked up. Appetizers were great but we will not be back.
Very nice place to have a relaxing dinner. Friendly, welcoming staff. Everything was fresh and delicious. We will definitely go back.
A staple of the neighborhood. Lunch box was plentiful yet a bit bland. Nothing special. More expensive than area places. Good though as a convenience. Nice and honest owner. A mess up on check and he fixed it and apologized.
My wife and I have been to Kouzan many times and have always enjoyed both the excellent food and the comfortable ambience. I usually have some form of sushi roll and they are always good but, this time, for a change, I had the bento box with beef negimaki and it was terrific. Overall, a great dining experience at a very fair price.
This is our favorite Japanese restaurant in the UWS. Always a great experience, whether dining there or ordering at home.
The sushi is really good! A great value.
Uniformly excellent. We enjoy this restaurant very much. Good quality, good service, good pricing. We recommend it.
Delicious food, attentive service, pleasant ambiance
Consistent local restaurant with very nice staff.
Excellent as always
Excellent sushi. Very high quality. Server could have been more friendly
Sushi rice was terrible. Fish was okay. Lovely restaurant interior.
Yes, I'd recommend Kouzan, but it's a lukewarm recommendation. If you don't mind a TV in the corner, annoying computer screens visible from every seat in the room, & pop music, you could go there. (It's a shame, because the ambience would be lovely without these things. They even have a sort of waterfall -- but it's right near a glowing digital computer screen.) The food is very good.
Very nice restaurant. Good ambience, lovely setting, great service. Food was a bit of a disappointment. Tempura tasted oily, salmon over done. Soup and rolls were good.
Best Japanese food in the world
Sushi just ok. Good service, nice place and good pricing, but average at best.
My favorite neighborhood restaurant. The very best sashimi. I also love the ohshitaski, honey duck, dumplings- all of it. Place is comfortable and the service is totally pleasant.
Really great sushi and quick service.
Very tasty food and nice environment. Definitely go for the grilled black cod. Sushi is also delicious!
Really disappointing food, but decent service.
Delicious Food. Great service. Expansive menu of dumplings and sushi. My teens and friends loved it. Pretty restaurant. Very reasonable.
We have been there multiple times and it never disappoints. Love the sushi...the freshness and the variety.
