Kona Jack's Fish Market & Sushi Bar Ratings and Reviews
Our server was unable to keep up with her work load. We had to go to the bar to get our own drinks after numerous attempts to flag her down. Our food came out cold. The broccoli was very undercooked. The fries seemed old. We are frequent guests of Kona Jacks and normally enjoy ourselves, but this was a bad experience.
The staff were great. We had a special need because one member of our party had a broken leg. They adjusted immediately and were very nice. The only negative was my salad was very tired. It looked like it had been prepped 3 days earlier. Not fit to eat. Quality control left a bit to be desired. Otherwise, everything was good.
One of our favorite stops on our way to Bloomington. Fish is fresh and prepared well. The vegetable dish that comes with the pop stickers is amazing. So far we have had the scallops, shrimp, sushi, potstickers and sea bass;; all wonderful in flavor and freshness.
I used to really like the food at Kona Jacks. The last two times however, you can tell the quality of their food has really deteriorated. This place has been around for well over 16 years, and they’ve had pretty much the same menu, which was fine when it was good. I had the salmon cashew stir fry, and I couldn’t eat most of the salmon because it was raw and mushy. The flavor of this dish used to be really tasty, but now it is very bland. The soy ginger salad dressing is still great, but the caliber of the lettuce is very poor - the white part of Iceburg. I was going to order sushi, and I wish I had. We were al disappointed in our meals. It’s a shame because I like to support locally owned restaurants, but we won’t be going back.
One of our favorite places to get sushi along with other options; pasta, salads, sandwiches or small plates. As usual the food was good but service was lacking. It was our first time sitting outside so maybe that's why. We had to help ourselves to the cart for our own plates and to refil our water once. Pretty disappointed with the service this time but usually it's great.
the best thing is the food. it is consistently good so you can count on it. The staff is okay, I can't say I've ever had exceptional care, but I don't really expect or need it anywhere anymore. I like the ambiance. My son-in-law loves the sushi bar and occasionally I join in and it is as good as sushi can be! I like being able to make a recommendation, seating is comfortable.
We were 9 diners who ordered numerous different meals; sushi, stuffed grouper, crab legs, po boy, etc. Everyone was very pleased with their food. Servers were very attentive and did not rush us out after dinner. We will definately be returning to Kona Jack's!
Had a wonderful table right next to one of the several large tropical fish tanks. My wife and I started with 6 large East Coast raw oysters and 2 tasty crab cakes. Proceeded to buttery clam chowder and nicely balanced gumbo. The main courses were a tuna linguine special and a chef special sushi roll. When you add a large loaf of warm bread, we were stuffed but happy. Brought home enough linguine for several lunch meals. Our server Lisa kept our drinks full and brought out our 3 course meal with perfect timing. Recommend Kona Jack's for a nice variety of fresh seafood in a relaxed atmosphere.
Food is always good. I found out tonight they cut their own steaks, that explains why the are ribeyes always looking different. Tonight it was thin but large. Made the edges medium well instead of medium rare. Still had good flavor though.
Don't care for a thinner steak. Even the waiter was confused.
Too many better options for steak. Will only go back for the amazing fish. Used to be my favorite ribeye in town.
Always like their sushi and service always good.
The food was delicious! We enjoyed the sushi and other seafood dishes. This is a family favorite spot for special family occasions. Our server was did a very poor job. He was preoccupied with talking to the hostess. He was not attentive to our needs. One member of our group did not receive their salad until all of us had eaten ours. When questions were asked about dish preparation the server was annoyed and hastily left the table. When he returned he was not very helpful in helping a member of our party work within a special diet. This was unusual for Kona Jack's. On previous visits our servers have always been attentive.
Our experience was fantastic as usual. I'm a bit mystified as to why Kona is not mentioned amongst the very best restaurants in Indy, because it is. Along with Peterson's, it boasts the best seafood offerings in the city, & the prices are quite reasonable. I cannot think of a single bad thing to say about this restaurant. If you've never been, you should go as soon as possible!
