Kona Grill - Troy Ratings and Reviews
My server forgot almost everything I asked for.. I orders the shrimp poké bowl with a side of aoli sauce. She forgot the sauce, never came over to table touch so I could ask for the sauce again. Also, I stopped 2 extra waitress to ask for the sauce and they told me they would gladly bring it over and never did.
Waited 40 minutes for our food - two sushi rolls and a small rice bowl (zero cooking)- on a Wednesday night with a reservation at 5:30. We received food and had to immediately pack it up so we didn't miss our show downtown Detroit. (fun eating rice with chopsticks and driving) It was not lack of timing on my part. It was the kitchen, not the waitstaff. My date who had never been there said we should have gone somewhere else........
This was dinner for my husbands birthday, since this is his favorite restaurant. Unfortunately Kona Grill fell very short this time. I made my reservation online and then called the restaurant to ask to have my husband surprised with his favorite dessert. When we checked in, the hostess reconfirmed the brownie was to be served at our table as soon as we were done with dinner. That information some how never made it to my waitress. When I asked the waitress she apologized and said she would ask her manager and get the birthday dessert asap. She then promptly brought the butter cake, not the brownie and ice cream as requested and confirmed with the hostess. She also served it with 1 fork so that the rest of our table shared it using the left over chopsticks from our sushi. I was very disappointed, I let the hostess know as we were leaving the restaurant, she apologized and I can honestly say I will not come back for a special occasion dinner going forward.
Night didn’t start out good as our party of 16 had to wait outside for 20 min after our scheduled reservation because our table was not cleared. However, the owner/manager “Chris” took a bad situation and used it as an opportunity to shine and show his excellent Customer service. He paid for my first drink without me even knowing it, he cleared an area in the bar section for my party while we waited for our table so we didn’t have to wait outside anymore and gave us free appetizers all around. After that our table was ready and the service and food from there on out was outstanding. Kona Grill and their management for the Win!
Get a reservation online! Thank God I decided to get a reservation online through OpenTable. Or else I would have been waiting for about 20 minutes. The food is neat and averagely good. not mindblowing. But the restaurant is classy and dinner vibes work towards having a good evening with your person.
have visited several Kona Grill locations - always consistent in good quality, cleanliness, and delicious food. On this occasion, we started with the Original Poke, and rounded it out with orders of sashimi tuna and salmon, and several of their specialty rolls (Picasso, and Peppered Tuna Tataki). All of them awesome !
After sitting down we notice that the menu had changed. It had became smaller and many items had been taken off, for one under wines the seven daughter was gone and the meatloaf. The fish of the day was over cooked and very salty, had to send it back and ordered the bass instead which was great!
Made a reservation for my boyfriends birthday and I’m glad I did! It was super busy, but we were seated immediately. Service was excellent considering the restaurant and bar were full! Overall a great experience. I love this restaurant and recommend it to everyone.
They have updated their menu and brought back the Spicy Shrimp Tempura...Believe me when I say it, it's AMAZING! They took it off the menu close to a year, and due to guest like me and others always asking about it they put it back on the menu. I'm glad they did because I had two orders of that during happy hour. It's pretty much like Bang Bang Shrimp but better and addicting.
