We dined with friends and everyone had a delicious dinner. There were several large groups so service was a little slow, but Christine kept checking on us to let us know the progress. We would definitely go back to Kona Grill again.

Food was great, we had the surf and turf special, a few extra rolls, and the prime rib meatballs. Not a fan of the meatballs but the filet I ordered with my surf n turf was phenomenal. Our service was juggling the entire restaurant from what I could observe, a lot of places are struggling with headcount so I appreciated her. Two areas of improvement would be hostess communication and cleanliness of the restaurant. Hostess had a poor attitude with myself and I observed her give the gentleman after us a bad attitude. Our table hadn’t been swept underneath and it may be time to get new tables and dishes. My serving dish for the surf and turf was a wooden cutting board that looked like it horrible. It was so used I couldn’t imagine it being fully cleaned.

Food was “ok”. Sushi rolls were decent, rest was bland. Modern “night club” atmosphere with a dj spinning beats of basic pop. Service was almost laughably poor. Cutlery rolls had only forks in the napkins, the servers brought foods plates out before removing other dishes from all the apps, my daughter’s lemonade was water, my water was given in a cup with no ice, our server gave us someone else’s appetizers, no salt and pepper anywhere, and the menu was changed to a smaller “holiday” menu which was NOT listed on their website so we had only a fraction of the selection. As it was January 1st, I guess that I will cut them slack but wish they said something on the website or indicated what the actual menu was as we probably would have picked somewhere else. That seems a bit underhanded.

The bar and restaurant were understaffed. We arrived before our 8 pm reservation and started with an amaretto sour. It was diluted and had to be sent back. Then we re ordered frozen margaritas. My boyfriend couldn’t drink his because they were over sugared. We ordered a lite bite at the bar waiting for our table. My boyfriend picked this restaurant because of the sushi. He ordered a California roll, which was a very tiny serving of sushi, and was awful. The crab mix was not fresh and tasted like it had been sitting on the counter for days. My boyfriend didn’t even finish the roll because it was so bad. We ordered $50 of food and drinks at the bar, and somehow the understaffed bartender charged us $60? Tax on $50 is not $10. The bar was so understaffed that we couldn’t even get the bartenders attention to let him know he overcharged.

Our table reservation was 8pm and we didn’t get seated till 8:45 pm. The host was so over worked that I stood at the host counter for 15 minutes before getting a word in.

The food at dinner was acceptable/fine, but diminished by your inability to make a basic sushi roll taste good. $13 for a California Roll that doesn’t taste fresh leaves a bad taste in my mouth, pun intended. Because it left a bad taste in my boyfriends mouth. he wouldn’t even finish it.

He recommends that you stop serving sushi if you can’t serve it fresh. $13 is also way too high for food that is not edible.

Other than that, no complaint. Hopefully you figure things out soon. Also, it took 15 minutes after being seated for a bottled beer.

Like many reviews I unfortunately read after we decided to eat here, this restaurant is short staffed and the value we expected after having a fantastic experience at the Gilbert location was incredibly underwhelming.

We were seated at a table that blocked access to two other tables. My wife had to get out of her chair to allow other guests to get to their table which was not only unbelievably inconvenient for her but it also basically trapped the other guest at their table.

At my request, our waiter moved us to an open booth - where we were able to eat our food with a little less chaos.

As far as the food goes, I have to say my food (surf and turf) was pretty good. Sadly, my wife’s chopped salad with grilled chicken arrived without the chicken. Our waiter apologized and returned with a plate of grilled chicken about 15 minutes later. The chicken was extremely salty. We could not get out of there fast enough.

This dining experience was very disappointing especially after having an outstanding date night at the Gilbert location. Word to the wise, they may have the same name but definitely do not provide the same food or service in any way.

We’d definitely go back to the Gilbert location in a minute but we will not be returning to this location ever again.

Went for New Years Eve. Arrived at 4:45. Bathroom was a disaster. No paper products. Ordered immediately and they were out of almost all special steaks. Food we did get was very good.

While the food was good, the service was well below average. Our waiter liked to carry on long conversations with all of his tables rather than checking back with his customers, refilling their drinks/water or checking on their food. We were served a Mai Tai that clearly wasn’t and then the manager argued with us that maybe their recipe is not what we expected. The replacement Mai Tai at least tasted like one. The appetizer and salad arrived with the entrees. The check took forever to arrive even after we turned down dessert. The restroom needed a cleaning and the paper towels in the dispenser were still wrapped in their bundle making them impossible to get out. The Picasso roll was good but spicy. The salmon was tasty. If you want good food and don’t mind a sub par experience, then the Kona Grill might be the place for you.

We took some friends from out of town here because this was the only place that could get us in. Now I know why! The dinner took all most 2 hours and was not that great. We waited FOREVER to get our meal.

Wanted to have a nice meal for our last day of vacation but was met with terrible service and management. Took 15 minutes to even be greeted by our server and have her take our order. 10 minutes go by and we still don’t have water, apparently there was no glasses available? 45 minutes after we sit down we still don’t have cutlery or plates. Food arrives and we STILL don’t have anything to eat it with for another 5 minutes. Our waitress didn’t even check on us until we were ready to pay. What made this worse was that after speaking to the manager about our terrible experience, nothing was comped off our $150 bill. Instead we were given a $10 voucher that we can’t even use because there’s no Kona Grill in Canada. We asked if it can be applied to our bill and was told no. This was unacceptable customer service and I won’t ever recommend this place to anyone visiting.

Prices seemed ridiculously higher - bathroom was filthy and restaurant was too! Staff was nice but clearly overwhelmed. 2 of the main appetizers we were told were not available so tried a 3rd that took until after dinner to get . too pricey for small not great food not impressed

The food was acceptable. But the service was totally unacceptable. Long long wait for the food. The waitress was no where to be found for very long period of time. We asked for hot water refill more than once. - never came. The service people seems like gay cab care less.

We booked our reservations on open table. We arrived 10 min early to insure on time arrival and was seated. Great. But the problem came in when we were not waited on. Customers who not only arrived later than us was seated and served. We watched the server walk past us for 25 min before we finally said something. When the manager came, she was so unconcerned the situation was extremely uncomfortable and we left. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant as it was really unprofessional and did not care about their customer. I mean 25 minutes with no offer of even water. Come on!!!!

Absolutely worst experience ever! Made our reservations days in advance because it was Christmas , but upon arrival they said it was an hour and half wait , yet there was more than 20 tables open between outside and inside. By the time we got our table most of the Holiday specials were out!! It took 40 mins to get our drinks!! The food was way over priced , served cold veggies and not cooked properly steaks ! Coke products not working , water tastes horrible and we were told it’s just Scottsdale water, when asked for bottle water they charged us $8 a bottle !!! Waitress never checked on us after serving our food! Very disappointing Christmas dinner and would never go there again if you paid me !

Yes, it is Christmas day, hard day to get good food out, hence why I made the reservations to Kona Grill almost two weeks ago... I was really looking forward to it, the menu looked amazing..
The reservation was made via Open Table, for 7:30pm. We arrived on time, only to see a crowd waiting outside.. we heard same explanation from the hostesses as everyone else did - Open Table allowed for overbooking and they are not staffed to serve everyone at the hour booked... there will be a wait time of up to 1.5 hrs... yes, 1.5 hrs!
We waited.. lucky for us (or at least that what we thought) we *only* ended up waiting 1 hr.. as some others decided not to.
I wish it went fine from that point onwards... but it didnt..
We were seated, but no waiter arrived... after 10 minutes, I went out to the hostesses to enquire when should we expect service, they appologized and said it will be a minute... well, it was another 10... so by the time we were able to order drinks and food, it was already 1 hr and 20 minutes past the reservation time...
Soda machine broke down apparently right after we asked for sodas... so we were served water instead (no, they didnt come asking if we wanted something else.. ) and those glasses of water took another 10 minutes..
Food arrived 25-ish minutes later and was not hot (it wasnt ice-cold either... maybe warm is the best decriprion)... so, we basically were served our dinner 2 hrs after our original reservation time.
Oh, the food.... the reason we bothered waiting was because of the menu.. it was very disappointing to realize when we were seated that there is a limited menu avaiable (Christmas day... but it didnt say so anywhere...) and there were basically zero veggie options that appealed to us.. 2 out of 4 ended up ordering the stir fry sans the chicken.. (but paying full price!).
So yes, I get it, it is Chriatmas day.... but this was so very disappointing!

Reservation was over an hour late. Food was very over salted. $10 for a small side of French fries. My wife thought for $10 it would enough to share for three people (like an appetizer). It was enough for one person.

Staff was pleasant and helpful despite obvious issue with Christmas rush and staff shortage.
We had 5:30 reservations for a party of 9 and were seated by 5:45. This is to be expected on Christmas as parties tend to spend more time at tables. Also longer waits for food are to be expected. The hostess was very helpful and friendly.
There were issues with the Co2 going out and no available soda.
Our waitress was very nice and pleasant the entire meal.
The manager came and spoke with us to just check in.
Despite the many issues with staff, angry customers (it’s Christmas dinner really why be so angry), running out of some items, no soda we had a pleasant meal with family.

Although they were somewhat short of personnel and somewhat overwhelmed by take out/delivery orders, our dinner was delicious and our server, Dana was personable and generally excellent. The manager was excellent as well, and nicely and warmly smoothed over the little bumps we encountered because they were so busy. It was a lovely Christmas lunch.

Kitchen seemed unorganized. Bar was backed up. Server was inattentive and slow, never did bring my son’s drink and did not check on our meal once delivered (by someone else). Five entrees didn’t arrive at once and steaks arrived with no knives - steak, butter or otherwise.

We ate here for Christmas brunch. Everything started off just fine with delicious appetizers. We ordered our entrées and had one person at our table with food allergies which we told the waiter. When our food came our guest with allergies entrée came in correct so we sent it back. At that point the manager came over and said it was her fault and she had neglected the food allergy note. She said a new entrée would be right out. We waited well over a half hour and no one ever came back to the table. At this point I went over and told them to bring us our check as we were late for a Christmas event. They removed the entrée that was incorrect from the bill and acted like they discounted more on top of that which they did not. When we looked at the bill they had double charged us for the incorrect entrée and then just removed the double chart. Terrible experience. The waiter came and apologized and said he has no say in how things were handled and the entree was forgotten about.

We had reservations for 6:30 pm on Christmas Eve and arrived at 6:28 pm. We were informed that there would be a ten-minute wait because they had to "wipe down the table". After waiting 15 minutes, we are taken to our table but then had to wait because the table needed to be cleared and cleaned off. Seriously. Another 20 minutes goes by and NOBODY has been to our table. I walked back to the hostess desk to find out who our server was but nobody was there (except for the 15 to 20 potential customers waiting to check in. So, I went in search of a manager and found someone who said they could help. She came to the table and took drink and appetizer orders and said she would have a server come check on us right away. Another 15 minutes goes by and the "manager" comes by and asks if the server had been to our table yet. We answered, no, not yet. Five minutes later, the server does come to our table, but does not have our drinks or appetizers. She rudely informs us that they are really backed up at the bar and by the way, they don't have the ingredients for the margarita we ordered (which was on the menu as a signature drink). In the meantime, we are witnessing tables that have come in after us receiving drinks and food. So, by now it is 8:00 pm and we had NO drinks or food delivered to our table. We left. To add insult to injury, being Christmas Eve, we could not find accommodations anywhere else at the Fashion Square. We have been loyal and regular customers of Kona Grill for many years, but no more. We will never go back.

Had a 6:30 reservation and arrived at 6:25. Told they us they just needed to wipe down our table. 15 minutes later (& after two more times telling me they just needed to wipe down the table) we were seated to a table that definitely wasn’t wiped down. No silverware, unlit candle, looked very sad. It took 30 minutes to get our appetizers, which arrived before our drinks. We sat near the open kitchen and saw many plates sitting there for up to 40 minutes before being delivered, including several plates of sushi that were actually there for our entire meal. The food was just ok - two meals arrived about 5 minutes before the other meals. The wait staff was trying but the real problem was the complete lack of any management. No one was pitching in to help deliver food or drinks or even refilling water (that didn’t happen). At this price point ($350 for 5 people) I expect a lot more than what was delivered. Will not return anytime soon. Scottsdale has so many other choices - this one is off the rotation!

Spent over 2 hours, and never a water refill for the table, ladies restroom was a mess in the 5pm hour, and no TP to be found. If felt rushed and not as it once was. Food was mediocre at best

My wife and I really enjoyed our meal and time at Kona Grill. The only concern I would address was the time it took for everything, however with being short staffed (in all areas), I absolutely give them a pass. We will be back, which is a good sign since I have been avoiding this place for a couple decades as I thought it was “to trendy” back in the day. Boy, did I miss out.

The food was bland and disappointing. We ordered a sea bass, a side salad, and 2 vegetable rolls and all three items disappointed. The service was slow and inattentive although I don’t blame our server since she seemed to be covering more tables than any server could handle.

Sadly, I will not be eating at this restaurant again.

I always see this place when we go by this mall. Seems like it’s always full of people. The food was underwhelming. We had salmon sashimi (can’t mess this up), tuna tataki with jalapeño on top, spicy shrimp tempura, Las Vegas roll, and spider roll. The salmon sashimi and Las Vegas roll are the only ones worth going back for. We had cucumber south side, watermelon margarita, London mule, and patio bubbles. Service was sub par. It was good at the beginning, but we were ignored the latter half of the evening. Had to check in twice to check the status of our drinks. I do understand that service was slower for the food as it looks like there’s only one person working on sushi/sashimis.
