Kona Grill - Scottsdale
Excellent as I expected it would be. One of my favorite restaurants! The barbecue is wonderful and the sweet potato fries are crispy and delicious. A special touch is the divinely sweet Hawaii rolls that are a rare contrast to the barbecue sauce. I did notice, however, that the barbecued pork sandwich, which was served on a roll the first time I dined at Kona Grill - is now on the menu as four sliders - served on smaller rolls, with less meat on them. Too bad, but will not stop me from ordering this dish again, and asking for a bit more meat!
Good food and good service. Noisy though and the prices are a tad higher than I think they should be.
Love the food selection here, robust menu with a sushi compliment! Was here with 9 for a birthday and the restaurant was awesome as usual.
Our waiter Steven was fantastic! Food was good, as usual.
The meal and service was a bit lacking this visit. We were a little disappointed.
Excellent food, great service
Poor service and mediocre food
Every time I dine at this location either by myself or with family and friends always receive amazing customer service from the time of being at the podium as well as our server taking our order and bringing us our food. One thing I love about eating at Kona is the food is always fresh and you get your monies worth. I have never had a bad experience ever, the company prides themselves on the quality of food being served to a customer and always has enthusiastic employees.
Check-in took 20 minutes, with lots of aggravation.
Getting the server to take our drink order took over 30 minutes.
I ordered salad and pizza, and asked for salad to come first. Server said of course. I got both at the same time.
Salad was poorly dressed, pizza was under-cooked and over-greasy.
Manager seemed good at running around apologizing, but not so good at running a smooth process with employees doing what they should.
Completely unprepared for the poor service - waited sitting at our table an hour to be served the appetizer. Inadequate staffing for the crowd in the restaurant, and we had to wait almost 20 minutes to be seated - we had a reservation, but they didn't even seem to be aware of it until they checked their computer. We were told this was the first time they were open on Christmas Day itself, and that many of the staff no-showed. They apparently had no plan B for this likelihood, and were overwhelmed. We chose to force ourselves to be patient however, and the food was excellent. No tangible apologies were asked for nor offered.
Our waiter, Boris, was very friendly and attentive. The food was good as well. The sushi was prepared well and better than most places.
Mikey S. was a very attentive waiter even though he had several tables due to limited staff for Christmas. Potstickers were excellent.
I ordered Salmon with fried rice. It was good but a little greasy. The server provided excellent service. He was very nice and friendly.
Floors were filthy and slimy. Smelled of old dried beer. Giant long hair in food cut the dining to a halt won’t go back. Also - smoking is allowed on the patio which was nasty.
Excellent food. Great to have a reservation on a busy Dec night. Staff was attentive.
Consistently delicious fare. A great spot for a Happy Hour break from shopping or as a destination all by itself. Great staff and lovey atmosphere.
Came out for a football tournament and our kids one so we went to celebrate awesome customer service she was spectacular highly recommend they have everything
Delicious. Service was great. Will go back.
On another issue.........so sad to see City North and Scottsdale Quarter close.
We booked this restaurant based on the high reviews for sushi. We were so disappointed when we arrived at the mall on Black Friday for our date for sushi. We had a great waiter however and he provided good service and our sushi was delicious. It was great value just not the ambiance we were looking for.
It was a bad Thanksgiving outing for our family. It was raining and cold so we were expecting a nice hot meal at this nice restaurant inside the Fashion Square but we were so disappointed. The floor was filled with food debris and the table was not clean. The drinks came out slow and my tea was barely lukewarm. We ordered the calamari and potstickers for appetizers and macademia turkey dinners for entrees at the same time since they needed more time to prepare the turkey dinners. The appetizers came out 5 minutes later and were tasty but no hot as expected. We waited another 15 minutes when the manager came out and tell us that they ran out of macademia turkey dinners. Why did they waited 15 minutes to tell us? They substituted the macademia turkeys with the classic roasted turkeys and gave us the appetizers for free. We waited for another 10 minutes for the roasted turkey dinners to come out and they tasted so salty we can hardly swallow. We ate our mashed potatoes and veggies and left the salty turkey meat on the plates. We didn't expect both food and service being this bad during this year Thanksgiving dinner.
The food is great, the location is very good, and the decor is quite classy. Big problem seems to be with assignment of servers and delivery of food. We ordered drinks and an appetizer and the entrees at the same time. 15 minutes later the entrees turned up but no sign of the drinks or appetizer. Of course we sent the entrees back and explained we wanted our drinks and appetizer served at the start of the meal.
Earlier, after 15 minutes waiting to even see a server I asked to see the manager. A couple of minutes later a server arrived, however we never saw the manager for the whole time we were there.
My conclusion is this manager doesn't care about the customer's experience.
Had a great experience at the sushi bar... The chef was amazing and took the time to give us suggestions. He was very fast at making the sushi so we didn't have to wait long to enjoy the food.
By far one of the best meals ever! The food on the "Kitchen" menu is outstanding - definitely recommend anything barbecued, and be sure to top it with "honey" coleslaw. Service excellent - and overall environment wonderful. Would have liked softer music, but the great taste of our meal was so good, I soon forgot about the music. Will definitely make this a favorite lunch spot.
I have lived in the valley for 25 years but my first visit to Kona Grill was last Thursday night. The best word to describe it would be underwhelming. The character and atmosphere of the dining room was above average except for the volume of the background music. The selection of music was OK but I think some improvement can be made to select music with a wider general appeal. The volume of the music was way too high. Unfortunately, this hurt the general ambience of the place. Loud music doesn't make a restaurant cool or hip.
The service was OK but needs some work. Our waiter was in training so I can cut him some slack. I think it was his first day. The waiter training him was fine but there's some room for improvement. For example, when a waiter/waitress leaves a table after delivering something, they should always ask it there is anything else they can get. This should be standard procedure. Also, they shouldn't take away any plates before the customer is done.
The hostess was extremely rude when I went to her podium to ask her a question. She didn't great me at all and didn't ask me what she could do to help. She just ignored me without even acknowledging my existence.
The food was above average but the coffee was served lukewarm. The coffee was replace with newly brewed coffee but we suspect that it was not decaf as requested. My father is sensitive to caffeine and he couldn't sleep that night.
I hope the Kona Grill can make some improvements to make the diner's experience more enjoyable. The business has a lot going for it, but at this time, I wouldn't recommend it to friends and family.
Food was excellent. Waitress was very good. Prices are high. Great meal.
Service was great. The food was fricken' awesome!!! My wife ordered the sweet chili glazed salmon and lost her dang mind. She loved it, and seriously the crispy brussel sprouts were addictive, I wanted more and more. Very good job. The only thing against you was this; We sat by the kitchen and there was competing music from the restaurant and the radio in the kitchen. Other than that, this was a great dining experience. Thank You.
Great service very attentive , good selection of entries and well presented. Local GEM
service and food was very good.
Good food/ happy hour pricing. Service was slow at best, the servers were pre occupied
food was good
server was nice but had to be reminded about things requested a few times
Service, not great . After greeting server anxious to rush us along. 3 of 5 food orders incorrect and sent back. Wine served well after meal arrived. Many many places to go for this cost with much better results. We are done with Kona Grill
$17 salad was limp and chicken sandwich was dry. Had to catch waiter for drinks. Sat us at a table too small for 7 people. Happy hour waiter was great, but no one else seemed interested. That’s not good for a 200 dollar bill. Hostess staff were too busy talking to care where we sat. Overall not a good experience
very busy tonight so the noise level was high. but service was very good and so was the food.
Went for our monthly mom daughter dinner and had a wonderful dinner. Our server was very kind and paid special attention to my seven yr old , who loved the extra attention.
We made reservations for an out of town guest on July 4th for 8:00pm. WE arrived at the restaurant to a note posted on the entrance stating they had closed at 7pm. Not sure how that happened, however with so many restaurants to choose from, not really a great management decision.
Friends from Canada had visit.
Disappointed in the food but our server was beyond excellent!
My birthday here was everything I expected and more. I loved the atmosphere and ambiance. The sushi was incredible. I will certainly be visiting this location again in the near future.
Good food and drinks and amazing service. All day happy hour on Sunday is fantastic.
Was a last minute book night before prom worked perfectly for our party of 6. Place was almost as pretty as my date!
