Had a 5:15 reservation on Mother’s Day and got there at 5. Saw the table they were going to seat my party at ready when we arrived, but they didn’t seat us until it was actually 5:15. My FIL and I both ordered a rib eye, just to find out about 20 min later they were out. Had to reorder our meals. Overall food tasted great, but the mixed drinks and service were sub-par. They were either understaffed or their staff didn’t care too much to work. I’d go back on a non-special event day just to test the service again.

Filet Mignon, 3 out 4 of our group ordered our steak medium rare, all were were medium well. All steak orders came with Brussels sprouts, sprouts were raw, hard as a rock. Orders were supposed to come with miso mashed potatoes, we all got left over breakfast brunch style potatoes. (this was Mothers Day). My wife ordered Salmon which was good and it came with fried rice with pork and shrimp, pork was cubed Eckrich style sausage, there was one piece of shrimp in the entire helping, pathetic.
We ordered Calamari for an appetizer, uneatable, there was actually the taste of raw flower in the calamari. Waiter did remove the charge for the calamari and removed the cost of one entree, still unacceptable, especially for a Mothers Day occasion. We felt sorry for our waiter as we got the feeling he was totally fed up with what was coming out of that kitchen.

Really bad “do it yourself” service...had to get up and ask hostess for almost everything including flatware. Food was cold and bad. Nothing like service at North Park. Will never return.

Food was good, but the service was pretty bad. Lauren, our waitress was doing the best she could but she was way over committed. Steak came out over cooked, had to send it back. Then I was billed for both steaks, had to correct that… it just felt like a grind. Anyway, mom enjoyed the early dinner.

Once seated, appetizers came cold (calamari) after 30-minutes wait, and then another 1-hour wait for food, that never arrived so we left. We didn't see our server for 45-minutes at one point. I should note, the restaurant was certainly not packed, we ended up going to McDonalds ... on Mothers Day. Horrendous experience, and we'll never be back.

We had reservations, which are required. We got there and they seated us right away. That was the good. Unfortunately, the rest was pretty bad. It took them 15 minutes to greet us and that was not by the server but the manager. The server never acknowledged us. He took our drink orders which they actually got right. After we got our drinks it took another 10 minutes for him, again not the server, to get back to us to take our order. He started pointing out menu items and was trying to upsell us as is his jib. The problem was that he was doing like a used car salesman using a script. He also made a statement about my wife's shirt that while trying to be a compliment made her uncomfortable. We ordered and got out appetizer soup fairly quickly. The rest of the order took almost 40 minutes to get to the table. When it did, my wife's order had sauce on her sushi she did not ask for and her steak was underdone and not charred as requested. My dish was spicier than expected since the description did not say it was spicy at all. It took a few minutes but a different manager now came over and tool her meal away to be corrected. While we thought they would re-fire a steak for her, they obviously put hers back to cook and overcooked it so much it was inedible. Also we all had fish components to our meals and all three of us agreed that they were fishy and not fresh. When the server finally came over to check on us I asked her to get the manager again. I basically told him that neither my nor my wife's meal was edible and that we did not want to pay for them. I offered him to pay for the appetizer and my son's meal. Being in customer service all my life I would have told the customer that I would take care of the bill but he agreed with me and charged us for what we ate. I did offer to have us back for a meal on him but when he gave me his card he wrote meal for two $65 max. This doesn't really help when the average meal is $40-$50. Needless to say we probably will not go back.

My family and I went there for an early Mother’s Day dinner. I told the waitress that I was a vegetarian, one of the friends I was with even commented on it. I ordered a salad, there was no mention of meat in the salad but when it came.... a hour later, there was bacon in the salad. When I told her that there was bacon she commented that she didn’t know I didn’t eat meat?????? Also we had to wait for; a set of utensils, soy sauce for the sushi, drinks and that’s just a few of the items that took over 20 minuets to get. When one of my friends suggested they comp me a salad (without bacon!) she said “I can’t do that!!” My friend went straight to the manager.... I got the salad..... without bacon!

Lauren was our Server and she did an amazing job. We had a California Roll, Avocado Egg Rolls for appetizers. I had the Chicken Stir Fri which was outstanding. Desert was the large brownie with ice cream and another cake with ice cream. It was my Mother-in-Laws Mothers Day Celebration and could not have gone better!

We enjoyed our Friday night dinner at Kona. Our waiter was relaxed and did not try to rush us so, we spent about an hour and 45 minutes there. As I said wait staff friendly, confident and relaxed. Our food was terrific. We ordered drinks and Prime fries, these were very good. Dinner was combo Kona stir fry and a Coconut Shrimp roll. Delicious and plenty for the two of us. The noise level, that’s where the ambience stole the whole show. We were sitting nearly against each other in order to have a conversation at an elevated level. The MUSIC is way too LOUD and makes for either uncomfortable conversations or dang near yelling at each other to speak. Now the music, it’s real loud and then add to that music the 120 or so people there trying to talk over the music and that was the noise level. It’s just too loud to want to go back. Our waiter explained (loudly) “new ownership wants a lively atmosphere!”
Has new ownership ever been to Big Island, Hawaii? That’s where Kona is and it ain’t loud.
Choices, would have been cool to have some Kona Coffee on the menu and Coconut drinks, tropical desserts and maybe just maybe, turning the music down about half way then it will be an enjoyable restaurant.

Very fresh and delicious sushi, great service. We ordered the halibut sashimi and had to order more as it was off the charts good. The shrimp tempura roll was a standout. It’s much better than your neighborhood sushi place, and the music and atmosphere is much more fun. Try the olive oil cake for dessert. Yumm! We will be back often!

Visiting from out of town, I was looking forward to going out to a nice dinner. Ordered the salmon which was undercooked as were the brussel sprouts that were so hard I could barely eat them. My son ordered a burger which he said was pretty good, but his fries were pretty bland. The skinny margarita was good and the waiter was pleasant, but the meal itself was very disappointing...

Always great food and service however we feel like the music is so loud you can’t talk to the people that you’re sitting with. Doesn’t stop us from going but we tried to choose seats wisely because some music is really loud. But that’s just us, where are the baby boomers

Had reservations for a party of 3 at 6PM on a Friday. They placed us next to a really loud DJ. Honestly, I can see DJ music after 10PM, but not for a 6PM dinner crowd. The waiter was trying to be pretty accommodating .. the first few cocktails were absolutely terrible .. we had to send them back .. they eventually replaced with much better ones, and credited us back on the bad ones. I ordered prime rib .. was very good, however the smallest one I'd ever seen .. especially for $33. Had to keep asking the waiter to come back for various items - no sauce with the Poke bowl, needed various thing that should have ben provided .. I must have flagged him down at least 15 times during dinner .. he was pretty busy with a lot of other tables.

Overall .. a mixed review .. some food was good, initial cocktails were terrible, but 2nd time around was better. Terrible ambiance for a quiet dinner on a Friday night .. hmm .. waiter was really trying but was being pulled many direction .. could have been a lot better.

This was second time. I was a little skeptical because the first time was mmm okay I guess. I wasn’t really wowed by the food I ordered and the ribeye my husband ordered was very tiny for the price. We decided to try it again during happy hour. This time was great. We both decided to order the ribeye again thinking it would be a better portion size and it defiantly was. Not sure what happened the last time. I ordered the Mac n cheese for a side and to my surprise it was AMAZING. I was so shocked coming from a sushi restaurant. I do like a little salt on my food which they don’t add but offer. It was great. I also ordered the happy hour Poke with the salad…..again AMAZING. The taste was on point. It did have a little kick (hot) but not to much. The happy hour menu has a good amount of options for a cheap price that I appreciate. It allows you the chance to try it for cheap just in case you don’t like it without paying so much. I’m definitely going back.

Jordan worked hard to make our casual dinner out feel special, without making a fuss. He followed up on a wine recommendation and when he discovered it wasn't to my taste, he immediately brought me something that did work. When he realized the tuna roll was too spicy for my wife, he brought out her choice right away. Then he enlisted the manager, Sal, to clarify something on our bill. 'The little things' make all the difference and it's why we'll be back. Thanks!

The server lacked confidence and knowledge about the menu. She forgot a couple items we ordered and had to be reminded on a few occasions. The lighting on the inside patio wasn’t adjusted once it got dark outside so we felt like we were eating in the dark

Service was great! We had a young girl with dark hair she was always filling up our drinks and checking on us. Food is always good. Love this restaurant!

Brussels sprouts good. Side salad excellent w blue cheese. Chips great. Filet Mignon lacked flavor.

Had reservations and was seated promptly. Wait staff appeared to not enjoy their job. They were not engaging or friendly. Service was just ok, could have been much better. They weren’t happy people. This kind of set the tone for the evening.

Ordered the calamari for an app. It was average, sauce that came with it was tasty and had a kick to it.

For the entree I got the French dip. This was a huge disappointment. The menu says it was supposed to come with au jus. It didn’t. It came with a tiny dip container of brown gravy. Tasted like to came from a gravy mix packet you would find at the grocery store. This was in no way, shape, or form au jus. Potato chips were good. I had a discount coupon that I used for a portion of my check. Had I paid full price I would have asked for an adjustment. This entree was really bad.

Restaurant was LOUD. Had to constantly raise my voice to have a conversation with the people at my table. Seemed more like a night club than a restaurant.

Because of the unfriendly wait staff and lousy food I prolly won’t return. Overall was not a pleasant experience.

UPDATE: I just received my credit card statement that had the Kona Grill charge on it. It appears the server adjusted (doubled) their tip. I was charged more than what I signed for on my check. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT!

2nd UPDATE: The restaurant manager contacted me yesterday and is sincerely taking action on my recent dining experience. I do believe that he wants to ensure my experience is not the norm. I will be visiting the restaurant again in the near future and will update this review after that visit.

3rd UPDATE: Last Friday I re-visited the Kona Grill. This dining experience was much different from the last one. The manager has made good on the deficiencies from my prior visit.

Great service from Leeland! Pad Thai was tasty, though both my wife and I would have preferred a little less sauce. We'll be back!
