Kona Grill - Lincolnshire Ratings and Reviews
I have had lunch here numerous times and it’s been good. This was the first time with the whole family for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent. We had sushi, flatbread, macadamia nut chicken, and steak chuchurra (?). Everyone was happy with their choices and it was all gone at the end of the meal. The desserts were very large and not quite as good as the main courses. Overall a great experience and I would recommend you give it a try.
Great food, Interesting menu options, Meh service
On Friday, January 12, I had a reservation with friends (total of 6, including 2 "almost teen" boys) at 7:45PM. My companion and I arrived a little early and were pleasantly surprised to find that the table was ready! What a great start!
The ambiance was lively, but with a significant amount of background noise. For our party though, it was okay.
We were seated and the menus distributed. The other 3 (one couldn't come because of an illness) were running late so my companion and I ordered an appetizer (smoked gouda fondue with pretzel bites and apple slices) and some wine while we waited. The wine came and was poured into our glasses without being offered the usual wine tasting ritual (you know the routine...show the wine, present the cork. pour a little, etc. etc.). Because I knew the wine we selected, I didn't think it was a big deal, just unusual.
The appetizer was good (the pre-teens loved it when they arrived) but a little light on the apple slices with a preponderance lot of pretzels bites.
My companion and I shared the kona churrasco - a great dish to share. The other had a variety of dishes including pad thai and the kona chopped salad. Everyone enjoyed the entree and agreed the food was great. For dessert, the adults shared a passion fruit crème brulee. Also, very good with a perfectly prepared sugar crust and 3 berries to accent the tangy custard. YUM.
The service was ok... Meh. The server was not engaging, but not rude either. She paid us the minimal amount of attention necessary to make sure the order was taken and the food delivered but didn't engage us and didn't really establish the type of interaction that good servers can do naturally. It may have been we had a late reservation and the crowd had started to thin out by the time we all got there.
We will go back again for the food and the interesting menu and hope for a server who is a bit more engaged with the guests.
Went on New Years Eve, which was a Sunday when they had happy hour all day long in the patio/bar area. Used a gift card that we received for Christmas, so it was a great value. Food was good and service was exceptional. The patio/bar area seating has been modified to accommodate more tables.
Quite annoyed hostess seated us by the front door on one of the coldest nights when there were tables available away from the door. Our server was gracious enough to move us to another table in the dining room. He was attentive until the end when we wanted to pay the bill to leave.
excellent food, plenty of room in the dining area. Friendly, immediate greeting when we walked in. Server was upbeat, knowledgeable of the dishes, checked on us frequently, but not pesty. while it was a relaxing evening, and we were not rushed, the only complaint I have is that the Kitchen must have been having some issues as it took a significant amount of time to be served our dinner. We only had salads and a noodle dish, and after ordering it took nearly an hour after our appetizer was served for the dinner to arrive.
Greatly dissapointed. App of pot stickers. Tasted like the type from the frozen aisle. Horrid. Then fish of day. The Mahi mahi w/ mango chutney, brussel sprouts. Not grilled for sure, tasted microwaved. Chutney bland. Sprouts not cooked. Could not even cut them. Also sea bass w/ shrimp & pork fried rice. Asked for the seasonal Brussel sprouts in place of veggie medley. Fish was bland, fried rice greasy and no brussel sprouts. When pointed it out bus girl asked if she should take plate away or bring me a order. Bring the extra out. 10 minutes later they arrived, rock hard and burned.
When server took our plates never asked why all sprouts still there. We did tell him to tell the cook. He came back with our check. No sorry-how about a dessert or coffee on us.
First time there, would not recommend it.
We came for a special occasion. Birthday. It was in the reservation, the hostess told the server and discussed at the table. The server never asked about dessert or brought a birthday dessert. It was a bit disappointing.
We frequent this restaurant. The birthday girl had a birthday email coupon. The server came back to the table and told us "the code had been redeemed" the birthday girl said no I just got the email it is valid until December 3. Server apologized the system would not allow her to honor it. She did take off one enter (value less than the $15 certificate).
Food was delicious. Company was great. Experience just not up to par.
Greeters/ hosts made an insanely bad first impression upon our entry. We had reservations to celebrate a special occasion, asked for a booth (the place was empty) and we’re good Ben multiple excuses why we couldn’t be sat at a booth. Lol.
We ended up on a booth.
Food choices were creative, fun and having been there before we looked forward to starting with avacado egg rolls and the Asian salad. We had sushi rolls, noodles and a shrimp pasta dish that were delish*
*most dishes have a bit of spice/ heat to them, (Pad Thai/ shrimp penne) if you don’t care for that, ask your server before you order. Menu doesn’t necessarily specify clearly which dishes have heat or not.
Good overall food experience. Our server was AMAZING! We’ll go again for sure.
We were celebrating a birthday and chose Kona Grill for dinner because it was near to the Marriott theater where we were seeing a play that evening. The menu was perfect for the group, we had sushi lovers, as well as those seeking meat & potatoes and seafood/pasta. We all came away from dinner complimenting food and service.
I've been to Kona Gtill for happy hour many times and enjoyed the appetizers and bar atmosphere. This time I went for dinner and the Jambalaya was tasty but extremely spicy. I love spicy food and couldn't even eat it. I mentioned this to the waiter several times and all he offered was some fresh lime to squeeze on it to cut the heat. It didn't help. My husband's salmon was much better.
The food was very good, as it has been in past visits. However on this visit, annoying fruit flies were flying around the table area. When I went to the men's room, there appeared to be an infestation of them around the urinals. Sure is a turn-off when the food has been so good all the times we have been there.
