Kona Grill - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
Was very excited to take my family to Kona Grill. I was terribly embarrassed and disappointed in our service and time spent at this venue. The food that night was all just OK. The service was terrible. From order taking to drink refills, it was a complete mess. At one point they took my husband's tea glass and never came back. No ice in the drinks. Couldn't get sweetener. And waiting for the check so we could get out of there was an eternity. Don't get me started on boxes and the receipt. Spent $148.00 for four people. I probably won't be allowed to choose the next outing.
Service was fast and efficient. Friendly without being intrusive. Jambalaya was lovely. Just a touch spicy and as authentic as New Orleans. Highly recommend the satay chicken and potstickers appetizer. The carrot cake is big enough for four people. Coffee was outstanding.
We ate at Kona Grill on a Sunday evening on the Country Club Plaza. Great atmosphere, as late NFL games finishing up. TV's visible, but not necessarily the main focus of atmosphere. Seems to be a popular sushi restaurant, although we did not partake in sushi. We ordered from the grill -- apps, entrees, salads . . . and drink menu was very expansive and creative. A seasonal menu featuring special appetizers, entrees, and bevs also available. Great food and atmosphere. Service was pretty good (seemed a little slow due to large holiday crowd -- had to wait quite a while for drinks).
They only had one host in a busy night, so we waited for a while for her so we could get seated. Server was good but in a rush, didnt recommend any drinks or food, just handled the menu. Desert and coffee were not offered. Maybe it is because they were busy
Our server was notified that we had tickets for a show & did everything he could to get us out of there with plenty of time -- and didn't sacrifice a thing. Food was great. Drinks were good.
And everything went fine. My only problem is that the restaurant is always very noisy.
Good food and fun bar area in Plaza location. Kona has a good size and interesting menu along with a great sushi menu. Most items are good to very good in taste and portions are good. Deserts are large but not particularly good in flavor or texture, just a bit clumbsy. We enjoy Kona and will return.
The food was good but not great for the price, and we had a lot of sushi rolls so that made for an $$$ night. I have had better sushi and spent less money, so next time we will stick to dinner menu and just get a couple rolls as an appetizer.
The service was wonderful!
This was our first time at Kona Grill and we enjoyed good service and excellent food. Even though they were very busy, a manager greeted us warmly and led us to a nice table and explained the restaurant to us. The sushi and sashimi were excellent and our entrees were too. I'm sure we'll be back soon.
We had an appetizer, a sushi roll and an entree (brought the wrong sandwich initially) that were not put in with the rest of our order. They did come out later (and the appetizer was comped, so they made it right), but it kind of disrupted the dinner. Waitress was very nice and apologetic. Food was very good, otherwise.
Very disappointed. Poor service and average food for the price. One of the servers didn't even bring the sushi platter to the table but handed it to me from the back of the booth, very strange! And when I asked our main server why our food was taking so long he pointed to the
Kitchen and said, "I am waiting on them", we kind of knew that all ready, but he could have actually checked with the kitchen to see what was taking so long...too many great restaurants in KC to go back there.
This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. My fiancé and I attempted to have lunch at the Kona Grill and needed to sit outside because we had a dog. We had a reservation and the only table available was a table for two directly in the sun! We sat there for 15 minutes while waiters as well as the manager ( Rachel) walked in and out many many times but didn’t greet us or offer us a glass of water. I went inside to get service twice and still no one came to service but again waiters came in and out multiple times looking at us sitting in the direct sun for 15 minutes. When I informed the hostess that we would actually be leaving because the service was just so bad some male waiter said OK and when I called and spoke to the manager Rachel she actually gave me the excuse that she saw us sitting in the direct sun and thought we were looking for another table I said to her that’s still no excuse for not being greeted or offered a menu or glass of water. The staff is young and very immature and I’m extremely disappointed in the NO Service. If you’re in the area and looking for a business lunch look elsewhere
