Kona Grill - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. My fiancé and I attempted to have lunch at the Kona Grill and needed to sit outside because we had a dog. We had a reservation and the only table available was a table for two directly in the sun! We sat there for 15 minutes while waiters as well as the manager ( Rachel) walked in and out many many times but didn’t greet us or offer us a glass of water. I went inside to get service twice and still no one came to service but again waiters came in and out multiple times looking at us sitting in the direct sun for 15 minutes. When I informed the hostess that we would actually be leaving because the service was just so bad some male waiter said OK and when I called and spoke to the manager Rachel she actually gave me the excuse that she saw us sitting in the direct sun and thought we were looking for another table I said to her that’s still no excuse for not being greeted or offered a menu or glass of water. The staff is young and very immature and I’m extremely disappointed in the NO Service. If you’re in the area and looking for a business lunch look elsewhere
First time diners. Much quieter in mid to back area. Lovely night so doors were open to patio. Nice selection of menu choices. Flat bread stArter was delicious . We had sea bass, macadamia encrusted chicken and pork tenderloin. We were all very pleased.
Only downfall was nats or fruit flies hovering around.
This was my first time here. We were celebrating birthdays and I loved that the menu has something for everyone. There is a special menu for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options.
The food was very good and really fresh. And the dessert they brought out for the birthdays we were celebrating was HUGE. We chose the carrot cake and it was VERY good!
The waiter was attentive and made sure to only disturb us when absolutely necessary. He was very good at keeping our table clear of dirty dishes.
The prices were very reasonable and the restaurant is in a convenient location. I would recommend it for large parties and special occasions. We will be back!
Friendly but very slow service. Had the macadamia chicken which has always been great in the past...over cooked to the point it was difficult to cut with my knife. My drink (Moscow Mule) was delicious and our sushi appetizer was good. Just felt leaving underwhelmed. Not as good as it has been especially for the money.
We were in town visiting family and decided to check out the Kona Grill for dinner for myself, my fiance, our cousin, and her husband.
I went ahead and made a reservation on Open Table and when we arrived early, we were directed to the bar to grab a drink. We went to grab a table while we waited (we were about 25min earlier than expected-parking wasnt bad for a busy night at the Plaza surprisingly) and were promptly asked not to sit as that was for bar customers. We stood at the bar for 10min before anyone asked us what we wanted to order for drinks, etc. Each of us got a different drink of choice, one of us choosing a whiskey sour (more on that later).
A hostess came up and said our table was ready and walked us over, where we would wait for 10min until I had asked someone for waters and was told "your server will get those for you", whoever our server even was (Trevor eventually came by). It was at this time, our cousin shared her whiskey sour tasted more like watered down lemonade. We sent it back and she ordered a dirty martini instead, which we then had to ask for a shot of olive juice as the drink was served crystal clear, not cloudy as dirty martinis traditionally are.
We had a good time visiting, but were really let down by the level of service and the fact that no one made any effort to apologize for the way were treated at the bar, not being greeted by our server, and being told no when asking for waters because the one we asked was not our server.
Poor service. Slow. Food came out at different times and orders were forgotten. It took three hours to get out of the restaurant when it should've taken no more than an hour or so. Waters were never refilled and it took the bar twenty plus minutes to get us our drinks. Highly disappointed.
Took our 12 and13 tr old grands as this is their favorite dining spot on the Plaza. We all came away very happy, electing appetizers for our meal. We split 5 rounds of a variety each one tasty. The girls especially love the potstickers! Just a pretty happy place so on the noisy side but not terrible.
We went for my friend's birthday who had never tried Sushi. We had fun trying different kinds. My granddaughter ordered the combo sushi off the kids menu only to find out it was sashimi. The waiter was good about taking it back & bringing the California Roll. Only drawback was it was extremely loud & hard to talk to each other.
Food was amazing, drinks were good. Our waiter was not so great. We had to constantly wait for drinks and for him to clear our appetizer plates. Our table was stacked with so many empty glasses and plates at one point we had no room when they brought our food out. It was busy, but didn't look as though he had too many tables. I recommend Kona Grill to anyone, just hope you don't get the same server we had.
Had a wonderful evening at the Kona Grill this past Saturday evening. Was dining with some old friends. Heard great reviews about the Macadamia Nut Chicken and my wife settled on this and it was great. I chose the pork tenderloin and it was excellent. This was our first visit but will not be our last.
We were disappointed with one of the appetizers - it was overcooked. We mentioned it to our waiter, who was great, and he said that he would send over a manager to talk more with us. No one every came.
The food was generally overcooked for everything, and seemed pre-made. There are a large number of better choices for restaurants in the area.
We went to Kona Grill for my daughters 23rd birthday. Food was good, but not great. Service was basically horrible. It was a Monday evening, and the restaurant was not very busy. Even so, our waiter was not at all friendly, everything was a rush. We did not feel like a guests.
My husband and I love this restaurant and the carrot cake is phenomenal. The service we received on our last visit, however, was very disappointing. All though our waitress was nice she was not very attentive to our table. We waited about 15-20 minutes before she even greeted our table. Took too long to bring water, brought out the wrong drinks, appetizers came out the same time our meal did and it took 25 minutes just to get a fork so we could eat our cake. Also took her forever to bring our check. Asked for a specific desert to celebrate my husband's birthday and was brought something completely different. Had to speak to a manager who was super nice and made our experience there much better.
Booths were very uncomfortable. Chicken broccoli stir fry was not good. Brussels sprouts were dry. Garlic lemon shrimp penne and pork sliders were good. Chicken entree and pad Thai noodles were just ....ok. Chicken chili and cornbread were tasty. The people in the bar seemed to be having a fun and very loud evening.
