Kona Grill - Kansas City
Went on a Sunday at noon food and drinks were both priced great and great quality. Will go back again.
The fish on the fish tacos was dry.
I’m My macadamia nut chicken was amazing!!
We had a booth in the dining room. For some reason there were lots of gnats around our table. We had to swat them away the entire meal. Our waitress was made aware, and she stated she wasn't sure why there were so many in this particular night. This made for a less enjoyable experience!
We love the Kona. Great food and a vibrant atmosphere. Great drinks as well.
dinning area had a odd odor. like damp carpet in the restroom. our table was at the opposite side and corner from the mens and ladies room. the table top was sticky. we ordered the tuna tower starter. it looked good and tasted good. my wife had the sea bass. I had the filet. medium well. the fish was over cooked with a bitter taste. my filet was the right temperature, but the meat tasted like a raw piece of meat was put on the fire with out any basic salt or pepper or seasoning. we were disported overall except for the tuna tower starter.
First time I’ve been here. Great food & service!
I am a Konavore Rewards member. It requires that you “sign in” with a code you give your server. Almost every time I go to the restaurant, I can’t get the app to open. It works once I leave but not while I am there. So, I don’t get signed in and I don’t get my rewards. Seems like there must be an issue with the WiFi. Please fix and please get me my rewards.
Overall a very good experience at Kona. I used the venue for a business meeting as I have before. Food was great, as was the service. My only issue was the dinning room was overran with Fruit Flies.
Food was outstanding. Waiter was nice but not very attentive. A little noisy environment for conversation.
Food is great! Service is awesome.
I made a reservation online for 5 people. We arrived 20 minutes early and waited, which was fine. We were taken to the dining area ten minutes after my reservation time, and then we were told to stand and wait while tables were put together for us. Once we sat down, the table smelled like bad body odor; it was really strong. We were sitting for ten minutes before a server came over. We asked for the happy hour menu, and were informed that happy hour doesn't apply to the entire restaurant, just the bar area. The server asked the hostess to move us over to the bar for happy hour. After 15 minutes with no word from the hostess, we got up and left. The food is great and happy hour makes it completely worth it, but it seems ridiculous to a) only honor happy hour in the bar, b) only allow reservations for the dining area, and c) not inform guests of those things. We were there for almost an hour from start to finish, and we walked out without eating anything (or spending a penny, for that matter).
Food was very good. We had a reservation and they tried to seat us in the bar at a high top. They acted like we didn't have a reservation and we were a great inconvenience to them. So they crammed us into a booth, where the back was too high and straight and the table top was at mouth level. The restaurant was nearly empty so we asked to be moved to the empty table next to us. That was reserved (and in the hour+ we were there, no one ever sat there). So they moved us back to the bar, at a low table and with much attitude told us, "for future reference, we don't take reservations for the bar." We never wanted to sit in the bar in the first place! We were not problematic patrons. I waited tables and tended bar for years and bend over backwards to be a trouble free diner. All this being said, the food was very good.
Nice venue for lunch, apparently happy hour is even better. Hard to find for someone who doesn't know the location as umbrellas on patio located on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant hide the name and a couple of people thought it was part of the melting pot next door.
Food was nicely presented and plentiful; nice piece of carrot cake for our birthday guests. Frankly, I was a little disappointed in the salad, as it wasn't as outstanding as I expected. Good service and I will try something different next time for another view point.
The food and drinks were great, as advertised. The only issue that we had was there were a bunch of gnats flying around. Our server said that they had an issue and that it had been addressed that day, but may take a day to clear them all out. Will still go back, food was great!
I have been to Kona 3 times in 9 weeks, each time the womens bathroom floor is wet and slippery from both sinks leaking, I have mentioned this each time, and put paper towels on the floor to absorb the water so no one gets hurt. There have been gnats at my table, this time when I sat down, there was a gnat circling the table before we even had drinks and I mentioned this to the server. He said something about the doors being open and thats why? Really.? We had to wait a bit for our table and the waiting area was so dirty, we were sticking to the floor, I mentioned it and the hostess says "we have a cleaning company". It was very gross the walk to the back to our booth we were sticking the whole way. This is supposed to be an upscale eatery in a nice area and Kona has gone down hill and doesn't live up to the standards I expect in that area. I also realized Kona filed for bankruptcy so this is possibly why you are not fixing sinks, a gnat problem or maintaining a clean lobby/floor. After 3 times I won't be back until I hear that things are fixed.
I would recommend for sushi but not for dinner entrees. Spicy tuna roll was outstanding. Entrees were average at best and overpriced.
The food is always good! I do feel like it’s a little pricey overall, especially since it was a chain. Service was good enough, but not excellent. We like Kona, so we will continue to go back, but it isn’t “WOW” anymore.
I went with my boyfriend who has never really tried sushi before. Our waiter recommended great wines to pair with most sushi on the menu and was very patient as we decided on our order. He gave us great recommendations and helped us pick out ones that were “safe” options since we weren’t as into sushi. I have a sensitivity to nuts and he ensured that the nuts were taken out. Our potstickers as appetizers came out only a little bit before our sushi because of a mistake in the kitchen, but they apologized so while it was a little disappointing, it’s understandable. The sushi was really good! It wasn’t the best I’ve had, but it was very yummy and well priced for a nicer sushi dinner. We will be returning.
Great spot to connect with girlfriend
There was nothing special about Kona grill. I had the macadamia nut crusted chicken it was ok... the cream sauce was over powering. The fried rice was good. Service by Gabe was great!
My husband and I love Kona Grill. We took family there and they enjoyed the food and drinks. My one complaint and something I’ve noticed every time I come to this location is that there are a lot of gnats and flies.
The service was extremely poor. They seated us at a dirty table. We had to ask for a server, then had to ask for the table to be cleaned then silverware, then water. Food took extremely long. One person asked for a side of sauce that was never delivered. The sushi had hardly any fish, all rice. We have always loved Kona Grill. Very disappointed after this experience.
We asked to be moved from the booth, the booth back was tilted and the table was very close to us, (we are not large people) everyone on both sides were leaning into the table due to the seat back and table. We asked to be moved and they were not busy so moved us to a table with chairs. There were fruit flies around the drinks and the bathroom floor was slippery wet from a leaky sink. I wouldn't rate them poor except the last time we ate here there were fruit flies an the bathroom was leaking then too and that was about 6 weeks ago at least. The food and server were fine but this isn't the quality or atmosphere it used to be.
We were seated immediately. The sushi selection was terrific. We had a new waiter that knew everything about the restaurant. It was a great evening.
Very good. Had a super waiter. We will 100% be back.
The entries do not taste fresh.... perhaps too much prep outside the kitchen? Low quality ingredients used. For spending so much ($160 for family of 5), I expected training to be rigorous, refined and professional. This was our 2nd time in, which we were reluctant.
Best Happy Hour! Love the HH options for sushi. they are also great for lunch, i love getting the bento box.
The atmosphere, clientele, and service were so poor that my husband and I left without having received the drinks we'd ordered no less ordering dinner.
Excellent selections and staff attentiveness, amount of sushi is skimpy, but everything tasted delicious.
Very slow and poor service. Had to ask for sweetener for my Ice Tea three times. Waited 45 minutes for our appetizer to come out. Our drink glasses were empty for long periods of time. When I made the reservation I was asked if it was a special occasion and I said “Birthday”. No one so much as even said “Happy Birthday”. Very loud and noisy. 1st time there and doubt we will go back.
Service was good and food was tasty and generous. A little noisy for our celebration and my cocktail was not at all what I expected.
We made a reservation and Kona would not give us Happy Hour pricing because we were “dining”. We waited for seats to open up in the front area. Once we sat down, the food came slowly. We had to pay the check and box it up when it came! That being said, if we had allowed for more than an hour to eat we would have enjoyed it, no problems. We had musical tickets and had to rush.
Spenser was phenomenal! I am so glad that he was our server. I took my friend out for her birthday, and Spenser was very attentive, engaged, knowledgeable, and kind. He really went the extra mile to make the experience special for her, and he far exceeded my expectations for the level of service. The food was fantastic, with great presentation and well-paced, but the service took center-stage! Highly recommend!
The atmosphere was perfect for Friday day, very busy. But we got out food at a decent time.
Hostess was rude
We went for our anniversary, which I stated when I made reservation, and was hoping to at least hear Happy Anniversary but nothing was said or done. I know that not all restaurants may mention anything but I guess it is always nice to hear.
Food wasn't prepared as ordered. Charged wrong amount for happy hour prices. Normally great place but not tonight.
We sat in the bar area during happy hour. Their happy hour has great deals on food and drinks. Our server was great. Overall pleased with the visit.
The Voo-Doo rolls are the best.
