Kona Grill - Kansas City
Food was great and prices were amazing. The door greeter/seating lady had the worst attitude and was trying to steer people away by saying there was an hour wait and we were the first on the list so it took 5 minutes. Waiters made up for her attitude and atmosphere was very fun.
Food was pretty good waitress did a great job. We did make reservations however apparently you can't make reservations for happy hour even though it doesn't include that on the website. The wait for happy hour was an additional 40 minutes. I wish they had a happy hour for the entire resteraunt instead of select areas.
It was my birthday. They have a great rewards program that gave me a coupon for $15 off. It was fantastic.
Terrible, the service I received was sub-par and the food wasn’t that great either. I made a reservation at a later time because the website said that was the only free time but when I get there people were able to do walk ins. Got seated at the worst table and waited for two hours for sushi and a chicken sandwich, and the food wasn’t cheap either I feel like the only thing that was worth the money was the atmosphere. Definitely wouldn’t recommend to anyone else.
Mona Grill was awesome ! The food was great and not super expensive . We’ll go to Kona Grill mor often .
Food was great, happy hour was amazing! Service was poor.
One of our favorite places. Love that you can get sushi as well as many other items. Great happy hour deals.
Manager Rob is a complete jerk. Dam shame he even has a job there. Food great but ruined by a nasty manager.
here for my Birthday this past Sunday . Happy hour at 7pm on a Sunday who knew a bunch of young ppl would be drunk and obnoxious. Sunday happy hours are a NO in my book - esp the manager had to get security 2 times to get ppl out and settle fighting down this is NoT a Fight club ppl I was disappointed over that bczzz ppl like us are here to enjoy the food. The food and our waiter was great.
Ask anyone, Kona will not disappoint!!! I 10/10 recommend. It’s also very spacious so there is plenty of seating even on the busiest nights and this does not come at the cost of poor service. Great service, great food, great atmosphere!
AWESOME SUSHI!!! AWESOME SUSHI!!! AWESOME SUSHI!!! AWESOME SUSHI!!! AWESOME SUSHI!!!
We had excellent service. Our server was very good and recommended some sushi that was amazing!
Greeter was a bit rude. Evidently our reservations hit during a shift change (which shouldn't be the customer's problem) but that was used as the rationale why we had to take a seat and wait 10 minutes in an empty restaurant. Attempted to hang out in the bar during the wait but the greeter said that was not allowed either.
Thankfully, our table waiter was fantastic and turned our initial service opinion around.
Minimal sushi choices, food was okay, service was great.
My family has celebrated New Year’s Eve for the last 6 years at Kona Grill and look forward to it every year. This year was very different in food quality, taste, and service. Sadly, we will be finding another restaurant for the future
Very loud dining experience.
Hard to hear my sons across the table.
Service was average.
Food was good.
They have changed their menu and unfortunately not for the better.
We go every year for my husband’s birthday. We are early thirties and love the sushi! Unfortunately, we made reservations for 10. They put us at a table for 8 and seemed put out. We all squeezed in. It took 45 minutes before we got water, our waitress stated she didn’t know she had our table. Then it came in broken glasses... I assume they put ice in hot glasses. It took two hours for our food to come. The manager was even watching our table. It was so strange. He apologized, but didn’t even comp any meals. We are super graceful, I know everyone has bad days, I want people to graceful with me when I mess up. So, we were very polite, but most our friends said they would never come back because the service was so poor.
Food however was DELICIOUS!
We were there for 3 hours. Sushi finally came out and something was wrong with it. It was very dry. They charged us for sushi we never got. Then wanted to argue. Then I was sick all night and the next morning. Very disturbing for a $141.
We had a 6:30 reservation, and we were seated right away. We sat for almost 20 minutes with not a single server stopping by to take our drink order or drop off waters. The check from the previous table was still sitting there. I'm a server myself and it was unacceptable. I wouldn't never return. If you're that busy let a fellow server know and have someone else check on your section !
Datecwith my husband, though we’ve taken kids here before too. Just fantastic! Something for everyone!
Really slow service for my birthday dinner with my family. Food came out cold. Some food was missing, and was benign delivered to us after we already paid our bill. I tried to give the server the benefit of the doubt as it was the holiday season, however, we would notice her just hanging out with her coworkers as our $12 drinks just sat at the bar, so finally we just went to get them ourselves.
We’ve been to Kona several times before as a family, and we consider it a special place.
On this last visit I hate to say it but their quality has really slipped. The Mediterranean flat bread was particularly poor tasting. It was barely eaten by anyone at the table. The Pad Thai had an unusual flavoring which some may like: we didn’t. In this time when sushi restaurants are very common and becoming very creative in their presentations the Kona Grill is getting left behind.
Ambiance: watching cage fighting on the 70” TV just 20 feet from our table was a real turn off.
On a brighter note our server was awesome and made it a good experience in spite of our disappointment in the food flavors.
The online menu through Open Table was not the same as what is available in Kansas City...disappointing.
Went for my 21st birthday with family and Kylie was a great server!!!! So kind and attentive!!
Excellent food as usual! The filet is superb!
Love Kona Grill and their avocado egg rolls. We went at Happy Hour for the first time, little noisier and busier than we expected for going as late as we did, but our server was very friendly. Great place for sushi and drinks.
Miss the macadamia dessert option. Restaurant was soo loud. Top shelf pours very affordable, comparatively. Scrumptious meal and dessert. Able to reserve a Friday night table on a Wednesday, so overall very pleased.
The Hostess was very rude but the rest of the staff was amazing. Happy hour is one of the best deals on the plaza
We continue to try this restaurant and walk away disappointed each time. I had to send back my pad thai (I rarely send back food) - it was not edible. The rolls were loose and fell apart...had to eat with a fork. Kona Grill has a great location on the KC Plaza however needs to revisit the quality of food being served.
Unbelievably, restaurant would not honor "bonus" gift cards that were issued when reg gift card was purchased. Apparently THIS year they put a time limit on them but the ones from previous years had had no such restriction which they even acknowledged. Not only are they legally and ethically obliged to honor them but you would just think that they would try to keep customers who buy $750 gift cards. Flat out stupid management.
Holiday dinner with our kids
The service was very poor on our last visit. Our waiter took a long time to bring our drinks and order
Unfortunately it seemed as though they were understaffed the night we came. We waited over 20 minutes before the manager finally came over and waited on our table. He did provide free appetizers, but it was still obvious that they had lots of issues that night.
Nice place on the Plaza for a date dinner or happy hour with friends. Went for wife's birthday celebration on a Sunday night, made advance reservation and table was ready on arrival. Although not packed, it was fairly busy and our server was available but not overly seen- had to wait just a short while for appetizer plates to be cleared and again later for drink refill. Appetizer took about 20 mins and food another 20 behind that. Food was very good, but Plaza price, so not bad value for a classy atmosphere (business casual and up) and gourmet level food given that you're dining on the Plaza.
We had such a great night at Kona! The sushi was delicious. We became a bit more adventurous compared to what we would typically order and it was worth it. The Dragon was my personal favorite, but my husband loved the Checkerboard.
Went to the restaurant with their rewards coupon and restaurant did not want to honor the coupon and the manager Rob was a complete a** would not even try to fix the problem. Must be a continual problem with us manager as one of the other managers agreed with us that he's not very nice person, FYI corporate Kona grill will hear about this tomorrow. Last visit for me.
We were seated between both the entrance & exit, this was a horrible table to have,
Just don’t get a table by the exit door. We froze during our dinner.
It is really loud but otherwise a great place for dinner.
