After swearing off this restaurant from a previous visit over a year ago I thought I'd give it another shot. When I arrived at the mall side entry I found the greeter occupied on her phone and a male friend chatting with her nearby. After a moment of me standing in front of her desk, she looked up and greeted me. The restaurant was not very crowded and we were seated at a table of our choosing. The waiter appeared and gave us time to decide. We ordered 2 - kids meals and two adult entrees. The kid's meals came first after about 30 minutes followed by our meals about 10 minutes after theirs. The food was excellent - cooked as requested. The waiter should have checked on us using a 2-minute method but didn't even though he was in the tables view several times. I had to call to him to get a to-go box and the check. Maybe it was a slow night and the waiter tired, but it could have been better. Also, I booked the restaurant indicating it was my anniversary. I would have thought the staff would have asked if I wanted a special cake or something to mark the evening - Maybe it was because we brought our 2 young children that it wasn't thought to ask (and yes they were well behaved). Overall, I loved the food but not the environment.
Good sushi choices and prompt service made this a good choice for a quick healthy lunch. It is not Nobu but it is not trying to be. Pokes were very good.
Variety! This is always a good place to take friends or business acquaintances.
I love Kona but this location's service sucks.
This was my first visit to Kona Grill. I ordered the Cuban sandwich with sweet potato fries. I really liked the sauce included with my sandwich (not sure of the name but it had black sesame seeds in it). I definitely would recommend eating here and plan to visit again soon.
Excellent service and food but the brownie is not brownie, is chocolate cake which is a big difference. Anyway I would gladly return to this place.
I wasnt impressed with Kona grill. When I reserved I thought it would be a fine dining experience but it was more of a mall like fast food place. Sushi was way too salty. Flatbread was good. I do not recommend
1 star. Our waiter was not up to part and the food was not that good yet expensive
Our waitress was very patient and well informed of the menu/specials for the night. The wine was flavorful and so was my sea bass. Parking at Galleria Mall is always an adventure but the food and service made it all better.
Food was excellent but the service was slow. Friendly but slow. There was a loud clanking noise near our table… Kind of like an air conditioning noise or something. But the food was so good it made up for this. I will return.
My chicken sandwich was good but the chicken in my husband's cobb salad wasn't good.
It was GREAT first time there and the food was yummy!!! Most of all the waitress was awesome!!! Tina was GREAT very attentive and very pleasant! We came there to celebrate my hubby b-day! We will be back and Tina will be our person!
I love the food and drinks here! I visit this location frequently because I love the outdoor patio set up!
Sushi is always great and the Kahuna hamburger is wonderful. The fudge brownie is the Best.
Salads were very tasty, turkey burger was fine. Calamari was cold - would have been better if hot. Conveniently located with parking nearby (Galleria parking escalator/elevator is just around the corner).
First time there. Had heard it was very good so was disappointed because while it was not bad, it was nothing great. Restaurant was not very busy but service was spotty and not very attentive. The Pad Thai was just o.k., have had much better. The sea bas was good and done very nicely but the rest of the dish, the asparagus and fried rice left a lot to be desired. Because it was not very busy, the manager gave us tomato basil soup on the house. Again, it was o.k. But not great, a bit too creamy. All in all, it wasn't bad but certainly nothing to rave about or recommend..
great food and service will go there again great location
super easy to get into...nice and relaxed and great variety on menu
Fantastic food and service. Highly recommend the Macadamia Chicken, and the Smoked Gouda Fondue.
I spent the evening with my two good friends while we ate sushi rolls (the voodoo is extra spicy but goes great when cut with the fresh ginger) and I had the jambalaya! The crawfish addition was surprising and delicious with them and the server checked on us often without imposing. I'll probably go again!
Great place not too noisy. Good food and great service. Decent prices as well. Good value.
This experience was very poor... usually I enjoy the Kona Grill. We waited 45 minutes before we received our food and had to ask for water refills in that time. We also let them know we were celebrating a birthday, but it went unnoticed except for the hostess, who said happy birthday on our way in. The manager on duty came to apologize after we complained that we had been waiting 45 minutes and still had no food, but there was no other attempt to accommodate the long wait.
I have been to Kona Grill before and I am always happy with the food. I think the sushi rolls are fresh and flavorful! However, the service I always find slow. I always order sushi and the sushi takes longer to prepare here than any other sushi place I have been. Overall the flavor is great and if I have a long time to spare, I am happy to return and have the Picasso roll.
Kona Grill is definitely a beautiful surprise. My girlfriend loves Kona Grill, so I made the reservation :) I had no idea that Westheimer Road had lights wrapped beautifully around the trees that glisten at night; the view was exceptional from the patio. Our server, Darrell, welcomed us with a smile, made us laugh throughout the evening, which made the night even better. We ordered margaritas and sake bombs, pepperoni flatbread, chicken satay, the bama roll (amazing) and a caesar salad. This was the perfect spot for late night Happy Hour and tapas in a prime location in the Galleria. I would highly recommend Kona Grill for date night - make sure you sit on the patio if you can :) the view is lovely.
It's a 3 star restaurant
Kona Grill has always been a pleasant place, but I have never a particular fan of their food until this visit, probably because I never had their lemon-garlic shrimp penne pasta. The occasion was friends getting together for the first time in several years with one former colleague now in Europe in town for a few days. We spent 3 hours catching up but were never rushed and received just the right amount of attention from the server, checking in with us just to enough to see if we needed anything. All in all, a really enjoyable experience.
Food was great as usual but service was terrible. Server took forever to greet us and was barely around when we need things. He rarely filled our water glasses and finding him to pay was excruciating. Once he did pick up my card he was gone for like 7 minutes with it. Either he is slower than I thought or I'm going to have to watch my statement for a while. Just ridiculous.
Great sushi and salmon - fresh and tasty. The service was attentive and not intrusive. The server recommended the butter cake and it was delicious!
Great food and atmosphere
Sunday specials in the bar were great value for money
Slow service. Not what expected.
Staff was very accommodating for additional persons
Nice lunch, not a lot of people out so there was not a lot of noise. The food was good.
We enjoyed our experience. The food and staff were excellent. Our only complaint was that it was very cold in the restaurant.
It was 8PM on a Sunday. Kona had 10-20% of the tables going and was full of employees and cooks. Some of the tables were taken by employees. My daughter was just diagnosed with lymphoma. We were in Houston for MD Anderson. She was not very hungry. She ordered the cheese fondue for an appetizer, then asked if she could order the child's turkey club. It was the only thing that sounded good to her. Our server told her no. "Not unless you are under 13." He wasn't kidding. I asked if they had an adult turkey club. He said no. She ordered something else and ate very little. Our food took forever for a near empty restaurant. Our server was slow about everything. I eat at the Kona in Plano all the time. I've never had a bad experience. Kona at the Galleria was a poor dining experience.
Had my birthday dinner here on 11/11. the General Manager came out to wish me happy birthday and happy Veterans Day. Ensured I had a great experience and invited me back.
Everything about the restaurant was good. Only problem was our waitress, she ignored us a few time, the food was great. I would go back but next time I hope we get another person.
We all Ordered from the restaurant week menu. Servings were very large. Everything was well prepared and delicious. Service was prompt and friendly.
Came for Restaurant Week. The food was wonderful.
We ordered 2 kids meals. They were terrible. One was a salmon dish that was very small, it had very little rice as well. The other was a grilled cheese sandwich. The bread was burnt and there was hardly any cheese in it compared to the thick bread.
We were seated promptly ad greeted in a friendly manner but our server was less than attentive and seemed to disappear for long periods of time. Several times I had to ask for a refill on my water and other beverages. It took him a really long time to come back to the table after he brought the first round of beverages to take our dinner order. But fortunately, the food did not take long to come out and everyone's order was correct. If we had a different server, one that seemed like he enjoyed his job, we may have had an overall better experience.
Bottom line - 'too cool for school' waiter instead of writing down orders attempted to commit them to memory, when running through re-cap with patrons prior to placing, he was advised that he was totally wrong on one order (glazed salmon vs. shrimp salad). Asked by patron if he wanted to write it down "oh, no - I got it"
Food order came out. Wrong order for different patron that required fried shrimp to be cooked while others went ahead and ate their entre while hot. Food delayed due to cooking meant that patron basically watched everyone else eat, and then ate while everyone else watched her.
No apology from waiter, no consideration given for rectification.
Bad service is the doom of any service establishment.
Also, when making reservation request online, specifically requested a quiet table for 4 for business lunch conversation. Screaming children playing on the mall escalator blew that request as we were seated in the middle of the restaurant in a high traffic area, that was also requested not to be in, in the online reservation request.
2 strikes in one dining experience. 3 and you would have been out. Probably won't be on top of list for future business dining.
